The park in which the pond water was gathered is in an urban area in providence Rhode Island. The current state of the park is slightly polluted with people traveling through it every day. Common activities in the park can be, but are not limited to, walking, running, or driving through the park, swimming, boating, or fishing in the water, or feeding the numerous amount of wildlife throughout the park. It is assumed that all of these activities affect the ecosystem negatively. A lab was conducted to study the very effects that humans have on this quant ecosystem. Two large buckets of pond water were gathered to the site of the lab. The individuals then studied the life in the buckets that could be easily sought out, such as, large snails, frogs, and even a fish. These organisms were sketched and noted. Then the individuals took out microscopes to view micro organisms in the pond. These organisms were so tiny the individuals couldn't see them with the naked eye. A lot of macroinvertebrates and algae were discovered and noted at this point. In the end, about 28 organisms were found in total and compiled into a large chart. The purpose of this lab was to discover how diverse the parking lot at Bunker Hill High School could be, by finding out the Shannon Wiener biodiversity index of the parking lot. The parking lot was used because it does not have much immigration and emigration of the cars. Using an actual ecosystem in the wild would be hard to control, what is immigrating and emigrating out of the experiment. The experiment shows how diverse the cars were, and this can show how diverse an actual ecosystem was during that time of the experiment. This then tells that diversity does matters because if everyone had the same kind of car, then no one would be different. However, if the students, faculty, and guests had a variety of cars in the parking lot, which made the experiment more diverse in the parking lot or the community of cars.
In the eutrophication test, we tested the phosphate, nitrate, and dissolved oxygen in the Conodoguinet Creek. We had a total of 9 tests for each of these items. Everyone who conducted these tests that day got the same results. The average for phosphate is 0.1, which is very good for the creek. The lower the phosphate, the better and less polluted the water is. 0.9 was the average for nitrate in the water. Nitrate is just like phosphate, the lower the nitrate the better the water quality is. The average for the dissolved oxygen is 9.8, which isn’t the best it can be, but it isn’t bad either. The average for the dissolved oxygen was lower because the weather was warm over the past few months, so that made the dissolved oxygen go down. Since the number was medium it shows us that the Conodoguinet Creek is not that polluted by doing this
...: The data shows that if there is minimal or extreme acidification in water then oceanic life will be experiencing severe stress. The findings show that my hypothesis was proven correct. Due to this project being a mini projection of the entire ocean it is clear that if humans continue adding chemicals into the ocean then the acidification will rise putting unwanted stress to the fish.

For this whole project on the Conodoguinet creek we are trying to figure out whether or not the creek is polluted. Therefore in this project we had to form a hypothesis. My hypothesis was,If we test the Conodoguinet Creek for signs of acid rain, eutrophication or other types of pollution, at the instant when we perform the experiments we'll know whether or not the creek is polluted. Eutrophication, which is excessive richness in nutrients in a body of water due to runoff, causes a dense growth of plant life and death of macroinvertebrates due to lack of oxygen, has been a problem in the Conodoguinet Creek. Effects of Antifreeze on the Boiling Point of Water Lab Purpose: The purpose of this lab is to see how the boiling point is effected by adding antifreeze and to discover how this happens. Brief Background: The concepts used in this lab are intermolecular forces, vapour pressure/vapour pressure reduction and boiling point elevation. Intermolecular forces are weak forces of attraction and repulsion between particles/molecules etc.. By adding the antifreeze, the intermolecular forces got stronger. Also the first pond weed which we have used I think that was not good pond weed to use for this experiment so we had to change the pond weed for next time to carry out the experiment. First time we could not complete our experiment because of the pond weed we have changed the concentration of potassium sodium carbonate from 1 grams to 1 grams but still it did not work well. There will be four different categories of pond (A, B, C, and D). The purpose of having four categories is to replicate each experiment three times to make sure our results are accurate. We have selected to use the herbicide Clipper because the active ingredient in Clipper is the group 14 herbicide, Flumioxazin, which, according to recent studies has shown to have “little effect on growth, survival, and feed conversion of the bluegill sunfish Lepomis Macrochirus.
