Policy Analysis Research Paper: Violence Against Women Act (VAWA)
I was a little confused about the topic/policy to choose for this assignment. I know that there are various types of policies which cover a range of topics. I decided that I wanted to cover either immigration or women. I decided that the policy I will be constructing my research paper over, will be the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). I had first heard about this policy in my Introduction to Social Work class and I was really interested by this topic. the professor just included a brief explanation of the VAWA Act. Once I saw this policy as one of the examples you provided in the email you sent to the class, I decided that this was the perfect

It resolves the violence against women. However, the VAWA Act addresses many issues that tie into violence against women, such as, violence in the home. I do not believe that the VAWA Act provides a fool-proof solution to domestic violence, but I am sure that it has helped all kinds of women in the United States. In my opinion, no policy will ever be able to completely do away with a certain problem because some people will get away with committing the crime. In addition to this, there will also be women/individuals that will not report certain crimes which will lead to more unresolved issues.
I will now include a basic overview of the VAWA Act. According to the Federation of American Scientists website, the VAWA Act, "enhanced investigations and prosecutions of sex offenses by allowing for enhanced sentencing of repeat federal sex offenders; mandating restitution to victims of specified federal sex offenses; and providing grants to state, local, and tribal law enforcement entities to investigate and prosecute violent crimes against women" (Sacco,
The Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006 was established because an American boy was abducted form a Florida shopping mall and was later found murdered. The act was signed into law by George W. Bush on July 27, 2006. This act is established to protect children from sexual exploitation and violent crime to prevent child abuse and child pornography to promote internet safety. This act is also known as the sex offender registration and notification act. It was established with the intention to strengthen laws related to child sexual predators. This law was instructed for each state and/or territory to apply criteria’s for posting offenders data on the internet.
This again specifically states the rights of women and how there are specific laws that meant to provide and protect on several

This situation can still be remaining not only in the fields but at other jobs and even though many of the woman had spoken up for themselves and went to the Department of Justice. “The Evans case has changed Washington because now they do trainings in sexual harrasmant and get true mangers who know how to truly report sexual harassment” (Frontline/ Bergman). The training of sexual harassment has helped because by putting that training in the workforce and the managers now feel obligated to report any situation. “The U Visa program would protect victims of crime, rape, kidnapping and sexual assault from being deported it would be so that victims can stay in the country and testify against the perpetrators and protect the victims” (Frontline/ Bergman). This U Visa program did put a lot of women in the calmer side because if they knew now if they were being assaulted they were fine to report and not be scared anymore to be
Like child abuse, it affects every American by impacting those we love the most. Awareness for domestic violence victims has evolved since the beginning of our country. In earlier times, it was a private matter, and took place “behind closed doors”. They helped them past their sufferings and place them back into mainstream culture. (Karmen, 2015) Claims one movement that assisted with the process is the Feminist Movement. This widespread movement took place during the 1970’s, and represented the “beaten women”. It helped them stand up for themselves during their distraught times. Domestic tranquility ensures women their safety at home under their husbands’ protection. The Feminist’s Movement questioned domestic tranquility and urged women to stand up for themselves (Karmen, 2015). They discovered the “silent crisis” that lived inside so many women at the time. The crisis was that the men they married gave into the times of “behind closed doors” and “look the other way”. Those times would stand no more, due to the feminist’s movement and widespread awareness. Laws and legislation have changed since the rediscovery of the victims of domestic violence. One example is restraining orders. Restraining orders set up a level of protection for the women from the male offenders. Another example of legislation is The Violence Against Women Act. Promulgated in 1994 the act mandates that all states enforce protective orders issued in a

This United States of America is not fond of undocumented immigrants, especially women. Cruel anti-immigrant laws, policies, and practices have had especially dramatic impact on immigrant women and their families. These measures force immigrant women to choose between the threat of an abusive husband and the threat of deportation if they call the police. Immigration policies can also make women sit in detention, thus leaving their children. During this time, some of the women might be raped by officers. This is because detention lacks sexual abuse prevention policies. These women who are in the detention centers are not dangerous, instead they are placed behind bars because of small crimes such as driving without a license or they are charged the civil crime for violating immigration laws.Women are faced with the emotional burden of separation from their families.

She soon felt that asking for help, just made Sam angry and made the situation worse. As a result of Beth’s story, there have been both legal and cultural advancements. The Violence Against Women's Act (1994), vastly improves services for victims of sexual and domestic violence. Through education and training for law enforcement, judges and prosecutors, health professionals and victim advocates in the signs of intimate partner violence and how to help the victims. The act included $4 billion in grant funds focused on ending violence against women. Funding was also included for additional research, gathering statistics, and the creation of shelters for battered women. Also, as of 2011, 20 states have mandatory arrest policies. Mandatory Arrest Policies ensures that police officers will arrest the offender if there is a probable cause – whether the victim wants them arrested or
For the most part, women’s advocates were content with the new law. It promoted an end to most gender-specific employment classifications. Title VII set into motion a political and cultural debate, leading to decreases in gender stereotypes. Though women still face prejudice and stereotypes, Title VII was one of the most influential acts that helped women. The creation of Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act set in motion the National Organization for Women. “NOW” was set out to bring equality to the workplace for women. Their focus was to eliminate gender specific legal categories that legitimated protective labor policies for women. Following this, protective laws for women were legally invalidated.
The Family Law Legislation Amendment (Family Violence and Other Measures) Act 2011 (Cth) will significantly improve protection for children and families at risk of violence and abuse. The amendments were made to the previous Act of 2006 to help people within the family law system to better understand violence and abuse and ensure it is reported and responded to more effectively. Relevant research will be assessed to provide background information on reforms of the Family Law Act, and how these changes have helped lead to the Amendment Act of 2011. This essay will evaluate the changes that were made in 2011 and whether these changes have led to improving the protection for children and families at risk of violence and abuse.
Violence against women has been occurring throughout society since the dawn of time. It is hard for the law to stop it going on because the women are either to scared to come forward or the women feel it is their fault so they deserve the beating. This sort of violence is predominately in homes and between families. In many ways it would be quite hard for the legal system to stop it because not a lot of people know that it is going on. However the legal system has done some work to stop violence against women.
Located in the developing country, the Dominican Republic; the United Nations International Research and Training institute for the Advancement of Women (UN-INSTRAW), created by the United Nations in 1976 via recommendation of the First World Conference of Women. INSTRAW is an inter-governmental organization (IGO) whose mission is:
In an advertisement published in Vogue Paris in February 2009, Steven Klein photographs fashion model Lara Stone in a manner that brought much controversy to the world about women and violence. In the photograph, a fashionably clad woman in lingerie is forcibly held down by a naked man, while a police officer poses suggestively on her legs and points a gun in her face. This advertisement seems excessively violent for a fashion magazine that young girls and the majority of the mainstream world idolize. By condoning and making the type of violence that is popular in fashion magazines ‘cool’, people begin to recreate the scenes in these photographs in real life because they are constantly exposed to it. Furthermore, this constant exposure to violence
In conclusion, violence against women is a difficult problem to solve. This is not always under control to be able to fix at all. But people will always have the most reasonable resolutions. I hope that this issue will soon be resolved smoothly so that all of the women will no longer have to suffer from those pains.
