Police Brutality Pros And Cons

For the last score police brutality has been a controversial topic for many people. Many people argue that law enforcement is no longer doing its job properly. Instead of working to build a safe environment, many police officers are always been extremely detrimental to society. They are marginalizing and brutalizing the community, especially black people. The police are not doing their job properly. Actually, so many black people have been killed unjustly by the same authorities who suppose to protect them. Take as examples the treatment of Amadou Diallo, Ousmane Zongo, and Eric Garner, who were marginalized, brutalized and killed by some police officers who were supposed to protect them.

Amadou Diallo was a young man of twenty two years

old and an immigrant from Guinea in West Africa. He worked as a street peddler in Manhattan. In 1999, he was shot 41 times by four police officers while he stood unarmed in the vestibule of his apartment building in the Bronx. The four police officers were acquitted of all charges after the death Amadou Diallo.
In May 2003 the police raided a warehouse known for pirating CDs and DVDs. Ousmane Zongo, an immigrant from Burkina Faso who spoke a little English was working in the same warehouse as a repairman. Ousmane was repairing musical instruments and was present in the warehouse on the day the police raided the area. The police officer Bryan Conroy, dressed undercover as a postal worker, was guarding a bin of CDs at the warehouse when Ousmane entered the warehouse and turned on the light. Conroy aimed a gun at him, Zongo was unaware of what was going on, he ran and Officer Conroy chased after him. Once Zongo hit a dead end officer Conroy shot Zongo four times, two of them hit Zongo in the back. NYPD admitted Zongo was irrelevant and had nothing to do with the case. Officer Conroy was found guilty of criminally negligent homicide, and was charged with five years probation, and no jail time.
According to the videotape, in 2014, Eric Garner was standing front of a store the officers approached Garner after suspecting he was selling single cigarettes from packs without tax stamps. After Garner denied and told the officers he was tired of getting accused, the officers tried to arrest Garner. One of the officers, Daniel Pantaleo, took Garner's wrist behind his back, Garner pushed his arms away. Pantaleo then put his arm around Garner's neck, putting him in a chokehold and pulled him backwards to the floor. The officer then pushed Garner’s face onto to the ground while four other officers tried to arrest him, while Garner repeated “ I can’t breathe” 11 times. Garner eventually lost consciousness. Garner remained on the sidewalk unconscious waiting for the ambulance to arrive, he was not treated immediately. As a result, he died.
The brutality of the police on the black people should be stopped and punishable based on the gravity of their actions.
