Pol Pot’s Beautiful Daughter, a fantasy and the love story which was written by Geoff Ryman. It was mentioned about the life of the Pol Pot’s daughter, Sith that her father was a dictator of the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia and she had the rules to help her avoid the unpleasantness in her life. It was also about the connecting of the ghosts to Sith that they wanted her to burn their name and transfer the merit to the unmourn dead. Through to this story, the description below will demonstrate and analysis the theme and the other important points that related mostly to the main character, Sith.

She liked air conditioning and luxury automobile. Her hair was dresses in cornrows and she had a spiky piercing above one eye. Her jeans were elaborately slashed and embroidered. She lived like a woman on Thai television, doing as she pleased in lip-gloss and Sunsilked hair (p.205). In the other hand, she also made the simple rule to help her avoid the unpleasantness. In fact, she broke almost her rules that she ruled herself. For the rule number two, “Ignore ghosts. They cannot hurt you”. Sith thinks that she have not to worry and think of them because they cannot touch or haunt her. But she break her rule. She knew that there were ghosts haunt her every night and she answered the phone call from the ghosts. It also break rule number eight that said “Don’t answer letters or phone calls”. She asked the ghosts that how did you get my number (p.215). For the rule number seven that said that “avoid anyone who drive a Toyota Viva or Honda Dream motor cycle”. Sith noted that avoid people who drive like her rule because she was a modern and rich girl and she always be driven either the Mercedes or the BMW. This point she broke this rule that she fell in love with Dara who drive motor. They went to a new and modern shop for CDs (p.213). For rule number nine that said “Never make any friends”. One more thing, she drove only modern car, Mercedes Bens. But after she met Dara at the phone shop, she changed herself in many parts. First, she breaks the rule that she changed from drive Mercedes to motor with Dara to the museum and other place in Phnom Penh. Second, she used to live only in the luxurious place in Phnom Penh with the high materials, but Dara changed her to get her to the countryside. At there, it is different from the city. In addition, Dara’s mother invited Sith home for the Pchum Ben festival (p.221) that it is the event that Sith never join. She did not do like this before. Beside this, the ghosts also changed her through the activities that they haunt and changed her mind to remind her to burn the name and transfer the merit to unmourned dead. In my opinion, I think the protagonist, Sith, was awesome and she can change her behavior due to the curriculum. She was a rich girl but she can change to adopt to what around her. She can change to drive with the motor, however, she breaks her
