The Point of No Return in The Wizard Heir Being oblivious to certain situations can give you an advantage or a disadvantage, and this is demonstrated throughout the book The Wizard Heir. This novel features a young man, Seph McCauley, who has a magical gift as a Wizard in a world of Seers, Enchanters, and Warriors. He was born into a world with no parents to guide him to use his powers and as he grew so did his power. His power spirals out of control enough times that his legal guardian sends him to a remote school meant for troubled boys, but this school is actually run by a Wizard headmaster who offers to help Seph. Seph agrees eagerly, but something about the headmaster, Leicester, is off, which doesn’t come to light fully until he tries …show more content…
to initiate Seph into something much bigger and darker than wizard training. Today I want to discuss the point of no return in this novel, the point of becoming aware.
The point of no return isn’t when the headmaster offers to help, but is rather when Seph denies his help after initially accepting it. Seph is lead outside to an outdoor amphitheater of sorts and Leicester and his group of alumni wizards are awaiting in robes, gathered around behind Leicester with a glowing staff. After forcing him to let Leicester to drink his blood, Seph does a full 180 and says no. Leicester warns him, menacingly, that his power will spiral out of control and leaves him there in the cold rainy night. This is the point of no return, he is no longer oblivious and he knows that things aren’t the way they should be, and this gives him an advantage but a disadvantage as Leicester proves to be determined to control Seph, even more now that he’s …show more content…
aware. Another interesting point is when Seph begins to receive nightmares and hallucinations, followed by magical accidents caused by his delusions. He later on finds out the nightmares and accidents are, for the most part, caused by Leicester. He finds this out after teaming up with Jason, another Wizard student who knew too much to be fooled into joining the alumni under Leicester’s control, and now Jason remains a prisoner. Seph and Jason are forbidden to speak to each other, but Jason teaches Seph what magic he knows anyways and tells him all about Leicester and his plans. This is also a point of no return, for Seph and Jason, who risk death or eternal torture. These decisions don’t affect just Seph or Jason, but they also effect some of the students without magic or knowledge of it. A student who dared to befriend Seph, named Trevor, offered to contact Seph’s guardian since they weren’t allowing him any outside contact and keeping him prisoner. Shortly after Trevor leaves for winter break to contact Seph’s guardian, he is said to have committed suicide, but Seph knows that Leicester murdered Trevor in his heart of hearts. This event strengthens Seph’s determination and fuels the flames of anger that continually rise. Seph’s refusal to join causes Leicester a whole lot of problems as well, and sets back his plans.
Leicester needs Seph to become more powerful and to go forward with a plan to corrupt and overtake the council of Wizards. Leicester is also a very power-hungry man and Seph’s refusal to join only deepens his desperation to get his hands on the amazing power Seph holds within. He is very careful what he says or does around Seph so that he can keep his motives deep down underneath half-truths, but he eventually snaps. Leicester finds out that Jason and Seph have been talking, and so Jason attempts to flee and Seph doesn’t hear from him. Deciding that he can’t wait to be rescued, Seph sneaks into the administrative building and sends out an SOS email which is received and read. Leicester finds out about the email too late and he summons Seph to his office where he takes no restraints to keep Seph unaware, deciding that he is too informed already to blindly join him. Someone is sent for Seph and they have trouble sending her away even with their magical gifts. But shortly after they let Seph go Leicester’s partner calls him to ask about Seph, who is the son of someone who has outwitted them in the past and present. This is Leicester’s point of no return and his reaction to Seph’s point of
return. Seph’s decisions to not join Leicester allows him to escape, learn magic, and find himself suddenly aware of the magic around him. As he becomes less oblivious he gains more responsibility and the more unaware he is the more danger he’s in. The more knowledge he gains the more he is capable of brilliance, but the less he knows the more likely he is to experience less pain. The whole novel is actually filled with points of no return, all of them cascading down chapter after chapter. These decisions and events affect everyone in a ripple of water, threatening to drown those who are unprepared.

Kids are not often kind, they do not listen to rules, they think they are better than others. It takes time and trial to change into a kind person. Often in literature, the protagonist changes from the beginning to the novel to the end of the novel. The protagonist changes after a hardship or issue. In Roland Smith’s “Peak” Peak matures from a selfish child to a selfless man, when struggling to climb Everest.

2) What is the main conflict in the book? Is it external or internal? How is this conflict resolved throughout the course of the book?
In the novella of The Crucible by Arthur Miller vengeance is walking Salem in causing several conflicts throughout the Salem village. Many of the conflicts are due with getting back at one another with the need for revenge. “We are what we always were in Salem, but now the little crazy children are jangling keys of the kingdom, and common vengeance writes the law!” (Miller 81). This quote is trying to prove the point the proctor has a very good understanding of what is happening in how the little girls are rebelling and acting out. They are accusing several women of being witches. “Why, Abigail Williams charge her” (Miller 77). The quote is trying to show how many of the girls are calling out the wives in the Salem village.
Redemption is defined as the action of saving or being saved from sin, error, or evil. Throughout life, individuals are faced with numerous incidences of redemption that can be taken up or ignored. Those who choose to take the opportunity are often able to grow mentally and accelerate much further than those who do not. However, what must be taken into account is that true redemption is for oneself rather than for others. For example, redemption by finally getting a well-deserved promotion which impresses others is not truly beneficial redemption. What must occur is happiness for the promotion within. In The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, the employment of redemption as a central idea prevails throughout the novel, specifically in the life
This is an essay demonstrates a strong agreement that the burnt stick is a novel about inequality. Since from the eighteenth to the twentieth there were a lot of clues in this novel shows inequality between white and aboriginal. Protagonist John, the light skinned aboriginal kid from the novel had been taken away from his family by the government in a really early age, send the campus around Australia to learn white people’s things with the big father in Pearl Bay, during the process was really heartbreaking to John, but the majority ignored his feelings, because they don’t have the same skin colour. This tragic experience makes him come back to his hometown after he turn be an adult, but there was no one still exist. By analysing the three points show from each paragraph, this essay will contend that the inequality shows in this novel.
“He reminded me of Will Rogers- maybe it was the grin” (10). This is the way Ponyboy, the narrator from The Outsiders describes his friend, Two-Bit. Two-Bit is just as funny as he is laid-back and tough. Each member of the gang had their own role in Ponyboy’s perspective, Pony believes Two-Bit was the funny one, though there is much more to Two-Bit than being the comedian. Two-Bit is just as funny as he is laid-back/lazy and tough. The gang needs Two-Bit for his attitude.
There is something to be said about quotes. The way the knowledge of achievers is brought down to just a few lines. It gives us a sense of both reflection and wisdom. They are relatable and can guide us to a conclusion of where we are and who we aspire to be. In our quote assignment we are told to choose three quotes from a selection that was posted on the board every week. All of them can be related to my life in some way, shape, or form. However, these are the three that I believe relate to me the best.
This paper analyzes Eminem’s, “When I’m Gone”, a song whose central theme is premised on the love for family and is evident on his conversation with his daughter, Hailie. I chose this song because of the interesting conversation that brings to the fore the deep emotional ties between the Eminem and Haile. Eminem’s passion for music seems to have taken precedence over the love for his family. Hailie endures so much heartache and misses her father every time he leaves home for a global fame and success through music. Eminem loves the daughter who he says he can give an arm for but can’t stop his music career because it is his passion and

Through the use of metaphor and vivid details the author once again conveys his message of how invisibility is a major part in his life.
