In Ted, Mark Wahlberg plays John Bennett, a teenager trapped in a 35-year-old man's body, enjoying life with his gorgeous girlfriend Lori and a talking teddy bear named Ted, with whom he's had a special relationship since childhood. That is about to change, however, because Lori wants John to finally grow up and kick Ted out of his apartment. Mila Kunis stars as Lori, Seth MacFarlane provides the voice of Ted, with Joel McHale and Giovanni Ribisi playing the supporting roles. MacFarlane is also the director and the main screenwriter.
Don't let anyone tell you Mark Wahlberg can't do comedy! His relationship with his childhood friend Ted, the key part of the movie, is a complete success, mostly due to the wonderful chemistry between Wahlberg and MacFarlane. The screenplay is sharp but somewhat uneven, especially in the third act, where the movie

inexplicably turns into a thriller at the expense of its (much more successful) comedy elements. The plot itself treads familiar ground, but it's smart enough to make fun of that when the situation calls for it. When the movie works, it is a delight. MacFarlane brings the most laughs as Ted offends everyone and everything at sight and Mila Kunis does a lot with her somewhat underwritten role. Still, the true soul of the movie lies in Wahlberg's nuanced performance, which is both funny enough to bring the laughs and convincing enough to give us a glimpse under his tough-guy facade. Keep in mind Ted is definitely not a family-friendly comedy, as it can be quite crude and sexual.
At its best, it's also riotously funny.
Shooter
Shooter is based on Stephen Hunter's thriller novel Point of Impact. The movie follows expert marksman Bob Lee Swagger (talk about a made-up name) who is recruited by Colonel Isaac Johnson to prevent the assassination of the USA president, but quickly learns that things are not what they seem. Mark Wahlberg is definitely not cast against type in the main role, with Michael Pena (Nick Memphis) and Kate Mara (Sarah Fenn) as his closest allies and Danny Glover playing the part of the Colonel. The movie is directed by an action thriller specialist, Antoine Fuqua.
The main draw of Shooter, other than the likable performances by its lead actors, are definitely the lovely choreographed action scenes. The movie opens with a particularly delightful sniper sequence and never lets go, its conspiracy thriller premise quickly giving way to furious gunplay. Wahlberg flaunts his action movie star persona at full display and makes the most of Swagger's alone-against-the-world
schtick. As much as Shooter is obviously inspired by the '70 political thrillers like All The President's Men or The Parallax View, it fails to grasp the real message behind those movies. Instead, it merely uses its conspiracy theories as en excuse for some more action setpieces, which makes the movie seem shallow and uninspired. Basically, what you see is what you get. Shooter is a flawed, but ultimately satisfying revenge flick. If you feel like spending two hours on a Mark Wahlberg movie, you could do a hell of a lot worse than this one.
Shooter first appears to the viewer and Happy at Happy’s first golf tournament. Shooter has a very self-centered personality and bases all his actions on making sure that everyone around him sees him as better than everyone else. After Happy qualifies for the Pro Tour, he talks to a Shooter and a group of golfers at a Pro Golfer party. Happy jokingly points out that Shooter doesn’t have one of the Gold Jackets that the winner of the Tour Championship gets. Instead of laughing along, Shooter becomes very upset that he is not being viewed as the best. As the Pro Golfer Tour continues, Happy’s fame begins to grow and eventually Shooter gets asked what he thinks of Happy. After being asked this, Shooter becomes extremely agitated with the interviewer because the attention was no longer on himself. Shooter just gets even angrier the next day when all his supporters begin to leave his golfing hole to go watch Happy Gilmore. Eventually Shooter becomes threatened by Happy Gilmore. Shooter was the favorite to win the tour, and desperate to make sure he does win and is seen as the best, he hires someone to sabotage Happy Gilmore by yelling “Jackass!” every time Happy tees off. Shooter had to cheat to insure to himself that he would win because being seen as the best is the only important thing to him. Shooter even goes to lengths to buy Happy’s grandmother’s house to try to get Happy to stop playing. But in the end,
Rolf de Herr’s 2002 film The Tracker represented some human beings in the past who have been extremely naïve, barbarous, and bigoted when it came to dealing with Indigenous Australians. This film portrayed white racism in the characters of the Fanatic, the Veteran, and at first the Recruit until he becomes stronger and eventually changes his demeanor towards the Aboriginal people. Even though the Tracker experiences immense hardship throughout the movie he was always two steps ahead of his bosses since he was very familiar with the land and was also able to outsmart his superior officers. The Tracker is a gloomy film which presents the dark past of Australia that must never be forgotten.
In his documentary Classified X, Martin Van Peebles describes three areas where African-Americans could be receive some sanctuary from the racism that pervaded almost all Hollywood films. These three places were: the Hollywood version of an all-Black film, the church, and entertainment. Black culture and music is prominent in mainstream society, but the people behind this culture don’t always receive recognition and respect for their creations. Mainstream White pop culture excitedly consumes and appropriates Black culture, but disrespects the source.
As we saw earlier, both authors of both stories were born in different places and did many things. “The Sniper” sets in Dublin, Ireland, during a time of a bitter civil war. It was a war between the Republicans, which wanted Ireland to become ...
The plot of this movie is about the struggle between the farmers and the cowboys. The farmers all want to start up crops, but the cowboys want to run their cattle through the open space so they can feed. Obviously, the two sides don’t agree. The cowboys end up attempting to use strong-arm tactics to get their way. They even try to scare the farmers off the land by burning down one of the homes of the farmers. Eventually, Shane, a former gunfight, realizes what he must do. He rides into town and kills all of the cowboys, including Wilson, the hired gun.
The movie Shock Doctrine revolves around the concept of the same name. The film begins by discussing psychological research on the effects of shock therapy. It is evident that a person under extreme stress and anxiety commonly experienced during a crisis functions and performs inadequately. It is noted that the studies are conducted by a man by the name of Milton Friedman, from the University of Chicago; the studies took place in the past, and some of the subjects are still recovering in the aftermath. From this research, interrogation techniques were learned and the concept of the shock doctrine was formed. Essentially through causing a crisis, the population of a country can be shocked into complying with accepting laws that favors the United States and capitalism. This theory coexists with Friedman’s belief in that government regulation is bad, and through a crisis a country would better itself with deregulation. The video uses Chile as an example and shows how America allowed a crisis to occur in Chile, through coups, interrogations and subterfuge. In the end a new government is formed that allows capitalism. Unfortunately afterwards violence and riots occur, as the rich gain most of the wealth and poverty rises. In addition to Chile, Argentina, Russia and even Iraq underwent the shock doctrine. Almost in every account, poverty rises and violence ends up erupting. The movie ends by showing how the US was in the process of the shock doctrine, and still is but the population has taken notice. Protests such as Occupy Wall Street are some of the initiatives necessary to bring awareness to the problems of class inequalities in order to prevent capitalism from benefitting the rich and increasing the wealth gap among the classes.
This film by virtue of its independence has shied away from the usual hype associated with American movies. The result is an original screenplay by Billy Bob Thornton that is transformed into a mesmerising tale of the south. Thornton cast actors with ability rather than their image or ‘Hollywood status’. Sling Blade challenges us to re-evaluate our principles and our definitions of right, wrong and of justice.

I outright love this film. It’s a perfect blend of Apatow’s fluffy romantic-comedy, with Amy Schumer’s raunchy and reactionary sense of humor. I don’t laugh aloud in films often, it’s just not something I’m comfortable doing, but I actually laughed out loud a lot in this film. The type of humor that appeals to me is situational humor, and that’s what the vast majority of this film is comprised of. I understand how that can get under a person’s skin, the idea of a film going from scene to scene and basically banking off of the reactions of its leads can become a bit exhausting. ‘Trainwreck’ blends the heavier dramatic moments
As a fan of cinema, I was excited to do this project on what I had remembered as a touching portrait on racism in our modern society. Writer/Director Paul Haggis deliberately depicts his characters in Crash within the context of many typical ethnic stereotypes that exist in our world today -- a "gangbanger" Latino with a shaved head and tattoos, an upper-class white woman who is discomforted by the sight of two young Black kids, and so on -- and causes them to rethink their own prejudices during their "crash moment" when they realize the racism that exists within themselves.
Seeing something through a different perspective, even as something as frivolous about an alien spaceship crashing to Earth and the way the aliens and humans have to adapt, grow, and learn to live together in a buddy-cop movie setting, can change a person’s view on the subject. While it was intended to be a comedy with a deeper meaning perhaps the viewers went away laughing, but also realizing the depth in the
I chose to analyze Despicable Me, an animated film geared towards a younger audience, because I was interested in examining underlying theories and messages that this film would be relaying to its viewers. Often times, when watching animated films, children are not aware of these messages, as they are absorbed by the characters, special effects, and humor. But as we have learned throughout this semester, our brains are subconsciously primed by the various surroundings we are exposed to. Since we also studied the impacts of entertainment, such as television and video games, on children, I wanted to see how a popular children’s film might also affect them.
The story is representing Mr. O’Flaherty and his brother in the war. Liam O’Flaherty was a great author and created many pieces of work that have become very popular since they were published. In “The Sniper”, it shows readers that war only makes people simple objects, how bad it can affect people and the side effects, and some experiences will be with some people till they die. This short story of the two snipers was the story of what happened to Mr. O’Flaherty, and how he got a mental illness from killing his own brother. In “The Sniper”, it can show some of the true horrors that a war can bring into a person’s
