In The Odyssey by Homer, many poetic devices are used to show the story in extraordinary detail. Homer crafts his story by describing the characters through literary elements. For example, there are many creatures from Greek mythology in the epic that are described in the most ruthless ways possible, or the most harmless ways possible. Events in the story, like the passing of the Sirens, Scylla, and Kharybdis are described to make the reader scared and threatened by the godly forces Odysseus has to survive. A quote that demonstrates imagery for the reader is, “...caught two in his hands like squirming puppies to beat their brains out, spattering on the floor.” This quote describes how the cyclopes grabs two of Odysseus’ men and mercilessly
