“Theme for English B”
“Theme for English B” by Langston Hughes is a blank verse that mainly focus on how this young black student, connecting as an individual who struggled with an entire race. In this poem the young black student instructor told them to write a paper and stated “And let that page come out of you”. Stating that you should just write what’s on your mind. The poem is more a critical thinking skill. It simply a powerful look at how the twenty-two year old black student might relate to this white professor. Even though in the poem he stated that he was black made me realize he was dealing with a lot of racism. However it is not only about the race; it also applies to any human being who wonder about his or her own identity. …show more content…

Lines 14 -15, 16-17, and 17-18 have enjambment, Enjambment are lines split mid through imagery a little. Truly we all know what a metaphor is; it is comparing something using like or as. Metaphors don’t quite always use like or as when comparing them to another object. The instructor said to his classroom Lines (1-5) “Go home and write a page tonight. And let the page come out of you. Then, it will be true” (Hughes 1004). With the instructor stating what he said don’t literally mean; let the page come out of you. He really mean that you free write and put whatever is on your mind on the page or reflect something deep about who the writer is. Then again the professor is trying to get the students to connect between their writing. Another metaphor “hear you, hear me-we two- you, me, talk on this page’ (19). This statement don’t actually mean talk on the page; it is saying that you have to express your feelings while writing the paper. He also stated that “we” and “you” includes us, the audience and Harlem. Then again the speaker and Harlem would be together, but they will always be separated because of his
