“Poverty is not an accident. Like slavery and apartheid, it is man-made and can be removed by the actions of human beings”-Nelson Mandela. Like the quote above by Nelson Mandela Plebeians in the Roman Republic struggled with important things that we need to live like food, and that happened because the Roman Republic didn’t really care about them and gave them a really hard time. When people were under the Roman Republic Plebeians or also called commoners struggled with getting food, but in the Roman Empire Plebeians were given some food so they wouldn’t starve to death, they could also become a full citizen to vote, and marry who they want. The first reason is that the Empire Plebeians could become full citizens, unlike the Republic where they didn’t have a say in anything. In the empire all free Plebeians could become a full citizen. Some evidence to back up this reason comes from a website called UShistory.org. The Plebeians might have had a council in the Republic, but the Senate still ignored them, and persuaded the problem to there side most of the time.
