One of the main reasons parents usually seek therapy is due to the recognition of a problem that is affecting the quality of life of their family. For the same reason, there are two forms of therapy that offer great benefits when treating children. The first approach is play therapy. This model of therapy helps to resolve the problem addressing children issues in a natural way (Lilly, O’Connor, krull, Shaefer, Landreth & Pehrsson, n.d.). Therapists can learn about the children and the type of relationships they have with the people around them through play. Children are not able to express their feelings verbally and play therapy helps them express those feelings that are and the relationship they have with their caregivers. The advantages obtained through the use of Play Therapy are numerous such as helps children to expand their self-expression, helps children to express themselves, uses fun activities, and gives the opportunity to gain knowledge about their actual issues (Lilly, et al, n.d.). With this approach, parents are trained with child-centered Play Therapy skills. The way parents learn is while the therapist is conducting a therapy session with their children (Cornett, 2012). One of the benefits of Filial Therapy is that it helps to minimize child behavior issues and the stress between the child and his or her parents. Filial Therapy is different from Play Therapy since it involves parents in the process as the therapeutic agents to help them to develop a healthier relationship with their children. It also helps parents to gain confidence in the treatment their children are receiving.
