I believe it is important because it properly cites the author, article, or the quote you are using in your essay. It is important to learn and utilized proper APA formatting because it will show the reader that you did your research and are giving proper credit to your sources. As a Bethel student, you want to use the correct in-text citations, references, and most of all to be honest in all the work that you do. Plagiarism shows that the writer may be dishonest and willing to cheat to get ahead. For me being a Bethel adult learner I are here to learn and get the education I was unable to in the past.

“The plagiarists Tale” is an article about Quentin Rowan a man that went by the pen name Q. R. Markham. He wrote “assassin of secrets” a spy novel, after the publication of the novel James Bond fans found many similarities between the two. After further investigation results showed Quentin has plagiarized using many different novels as example. After word got out to the public the publishing company was infuriated and instantly took the novel off bookstore shelves. He said “I wish I could do it all over” he regretted everything he did. Quentin faced his consequences and is currently having a problem finding work.
APA style is very important in all types of careers and school papers and research papers. The importance for this style paper is because it is usually seven pages long and the paper gives specific information and easy way to access the information. APA (American Psychological Association) style is primarily used in the social science disciplines. It is formatted like MLA, and shows many similarities, but is unique in several key points.
According to the Merriam-Webster, the definition of plagiarism is “the act of using another person’s words or ideas without giving credit to that person”. (“Plagiarism”). In both Colleges, the act of committing plagiarism has penalties, and it is a serious issue that goes against the Academic Honesty policies of both institutions; The two Colleges, as recently mentioned, have some similarities and differences in their policies, where George Brown has a stronger focus on giving information on avoiding plagiarism, Seneca has more severe punishment for committing plagiarism.
Plagiarism is the act of "stealing" what has already been written and said. It is not students' own original opinions, every school, especially North American schools, seriously considered the consequences of plagiarism (Nall & Gherwash, Aug 12, 2013). George Brown College and Seneca College, which are both located in Toronto, Canada, are no exception. Even though Seneca College has a more well-organized document regarding academic honesty, in particular, plagiarism, both schools take measures against plagiarism.
Consistency, is what essay formats seek to provide for readers. Without essay formats, readers may find themselves lost in the style of the author’s text rather than contemplating the ideas and thoughts that the author wants the reader to acknowledge. However, why is it that there are so many different essay formats? Wouldn’t it be simpler to just have one universal essay format? The two most widely used formats, MLA and APA, both have great degree of similarity as well as very distinct differences. Most of the similarities exist due to their effectiveness. On the other hand, the two formats’ distinct differences such as in-text citations or setting aside a whole page for a title, serve to strengthen the clarity of ideas within a field of study the author is trying to convey. Different formats exist due to the specific necessities fields of study require in order to convey their ideas to the reader.

It is absolutely clear that you feel sad when somebody cheated and duplicate your own things. This causes many people to feel frustration and getting upset when they are facing this difficult situation. We know it is not a good attitude for students, authors, and anyone else to use something misappropriate that they didn’t belong it. I read an article that called “When the Story Stolen is Your Own”. When the author Sherman Alexie was writing this article, he was feeling nervous because somebody has stolen his article and use it in his own. Nobody didn’t believe him when he told the publisher that his story was stolen by someone and imitate that he belong it. Same as the students when they cheated each other and submit the same paper, it was one of the biggest challenge that happens some of the students when they are in the college.
All I had ever known was MLA so it was quite a shock when I found out I would have to learn how to cite in APA. The first thing I did when I found out how we were going to cite our papers was go to Easybib to have the website to it for me. Turns out Easybib wants you to pay them if you want your sources cited in APA format. Once I found that out I scoured the web to find a website that could do it for me. I could not find a dependable site anywhere so I had to go look in the english book on how to cite. When I got to the section on citing sources in my book I realized that this is where I should have went right from the start. The book had every type of citation you would ever have to use. But even after I found out how to properly cite my sources, it was still another question for me
Plagiarism takes various forms. A student may cheat doing something as extreme as purchasing a paper, hiring someone to write a paper or turning in a paper freely provided by a friend. Many students unknowingly commit Plagiarism by failing to properly cite their sources crediting the authors. Still others cite, but plagiarize by coping much too much and writing far, far too little of their own synthesized thoughts and ideas. Students must be careful about copying too much. If a paper is mostly other writers’ material, that can be considered Plagiarism, even if the student credits their sources.

Today, millions of students will hand in work to a teacher; for some of them this is the assignment that will make or break their grade. Some people stay up for countless hours, working harder than they ever have in their entire lives, to produce high quality work. Other people decide to break one of the most enforced rules at every school in the country. In other words, they cheat. Throughout high school I dealt with MLA format which I never truly understood because it was not emphasized on. Now that I am in college, however, it is a completely different story. I’m not going to say that I struggled immensely with APA format, but it did take some getting used to. Instead of freewriting where formats are thrown out the window for idea creation, I had to stick with set rules on how a paper should look and how information should be organized and presented. After a few papers with the grand finale of the “research supported cause/effect essay,” citing sources and notating references seemed much easier. Being able to use different techniques to cite sources will allow my future papers to flow and allow the reader to not be bored to death. Referencing sources properly will keep my papers from being flagged as plagiarized and authors will get their due credit because I know I would not like my work to be claimed as someone else’s. Why do intelligent people plagiarize? Even if we dismiss the ethics and morals of plagiarism, there seems to be a little sense of it. Broadly, intellectuals plagiarize for the same reason others do, as they feel it’s the best way to obtain the desired outcome. But why risk your career and your future by cutting corners when you are competent of accomplishing a task?
Some people often believe that praising a student's work no matter the quality helps build self esteem. This is not always the cause, some students are too sheltered from people's honest opinion. These people will never be able to succeed in life, due to their attitude from never being told people's honest opinion. This may also affect their future in the workforce as well.
