Pixar is one of the most well-known children’s animation studios of this generation. This all famed animation company only has a short history, considering it just became an independent company in the year 1986. Twenty-eight is not a long time for a company but Pixar has made the best of it, with many award winning featured films and short films. The animation process has gotten easier with the help of their new high-quality technological animation machine, RenderMan. The Pixar history begins in 1979 as the graphics group for Lucasfilm, which is a different film producing company. After spending seven years in business with Lucasfilm, Pixar later became an independent company in 1986 with funding from Apple Inc. Pixar remained an independent …show more content…
They now have a total of fourteen featured films starting with Toy Story which was created in 1995 and the most recent featured film is Monsters University which was created in 2013. All fourteen films have been rated at least an “A-“ by CinemaScore which indicated a very positive feedback by the audience. As of December 2013, all of the featured films combined have brought in over $8.5 billion worldwide. Short films are also part of the reason Pixar is known worldwide. These shorts are quick, animated, films that are usually comedy, such as Monsters Inc.’s short film, Mike’s Car. Others are sometimes romantic shorts, such as The Blue Umbrella. Pixar Animation Studios are short films experts. They often produce award winning short films. RenderMan is animation software that Pixar Animations Studios uses for almost all of their films. This short was made is 1984 and created by the Lucasfilm’s graphics group. It was directed by Alvy Ray Smith, it was also written by Alvy Ray Smith. It was approximately two minutes long. This film was groundbreaking and made the audience take an interest in Pixar. “RenderMan is the ultimate creative tool. It’s the easiest and most flexible way to create a picture from an idea.” Joe Letteri once said. Pixar’s animation software, RenderMan, has almost nothing but good reviews! RenderMan has recently come out with a new version, RenderMan Studio 18. You can purchase the RenderMan Pro Server for a massive $2,000 now that it is on sale. You might think this is an expensive cost for animation softwares, but many say that if you are interested in animation, it is totally worth it! When Pixar was bought out by Disney, it was bought at a whopping $7.4 billion; though most agree that this is one of Disney’s best purchases. Almost all of Disney’s featured animated films were Pixar’s workings. In early Pixar history, Pixar tried to produce computers. As poor computer sakes threatened Pixar’s ability to maintain in business, Steve Jobs invested more money into the company and slowly started taking ownership of the company, business started picking up. People doubted Pixar but now they see Pixar has made a comeback and became the biggest children’s animation film studio in
...yboard to voice recordings to rough animation. Getting the details right is a huge deal for Pixar. To avoid wasting time rewriting everything at the end of the film process, each filmmaking team will hold weekly meeting to show their work. This lets the groups give a collective opinion on characters or themes, rather than having just one viewpoint. Pixar is constantly taking chances. The team does not want to be stuck in a 90’s Disney style, but they know they cannot get comfortable and only make sequels. To try to prevent that from happening, the Pixar team tries new techniques and stories and hope for the best. Being able to just throw everything away and start fresh, taking an agonizing amount of time revising their films, and being able to take risks is what makes Pixar stand out from the rest of the animation companies. Ever since Mickey Mouse was created in 1928, Disney has been at the forefront of the cartoon world. Every youngster has a favorite Disney character or movie. Over the years they have created some of the best movies of all time. However, Walt Disney hasn’t always been successful. He survived bankruptcy in 1922 and had to rethink how he was going to approach his life. I think it is safe to say the approach he took was the right one. One of his first productions was an animated short film Alice’s Wonderland, which turned into what we know as Alice in Wonderland. Mr. Disney’s first attempt at a feature-length animated film debuted in 1937 after three years of production. His masterpiece of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is one of his most awarded movies. Following World War II Disney Production was in a substantial amount of debt. They needed to come out with a new movie that would win over the public of America. They came out with just the right movie, Cinderella, in 1950. This was their biggest hit since Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs some 15 years ago. Because of Cinderella Disney Productions stayed in business and could go on to produce many more heartwarming movies.
The widely popular film Shrek, produced and distributed by DreamWorks in 2001, grossed a total of $484,409,218 in worldwide sales (Box Office Mojo). The success of the film has led DreamWorks to create several shorts, companion films, and sequels. From its memorable characters to its whimsical, edgy humor, Shrek was an amazing, highly successful animation that would pave the way for DreamWorks to make billions off the franchise. Shrek’s success can be attributed to three main factors: the range of ages it appeals to, its creative use of intertextuality, and its ability to cover a wide range of the fairy tale functions proposed by Vladimir Propp.
Through numerous innovations, acquisitions, and other strategic moves The Walt Disney Company has grown tremendously from the animation company that
John Lasseter was one of the original animators at Pixar Animation Studios. He is known for his hand drawn and computer animations in movies like Cars and Toy Story. Lasseter also created many short films through Pixar during his career as well as a few other movies. Some of the short films he created are Luxo Jr. and Red’s Dream. Lasseter created his animations having this statement in mind, “The art challenges the technology, the technology inspires the art.”-John Lasseter, brainyquote.com When he was
Any cartoon, animation, park, or product with Disney’s name attracted to it will automatically increase the popularity of that product. Brand recognition is extremely important to creating a long term company and returning customers. Even though Disney just started out creating animations and movies, they were able to find success in theme parks, cruises and many other areas because of their brand name. Having a reputation can have negative consequences, creating subpar products will impact the brand name, and that is why the quality of Disney’s products is essential to keeping a strong brand
The Disney Brothers Studios was founded by Walt and Roy Disney in October of 1923. As the brothers increased their reach in the entertainment market, this small studio evolved into the corporate giant known today as the Walt Disney Company which has interests in entertainment and media enterprises including Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, The Walt Disney Studios, ABC, Inc., ESPN, Disney Channel, Disney Stores, television and radio stations and Internet websites.
Walt Disney Films are known to be as an incredible and outstanding fantasy stories producer. It created more than a hundred of films. Majority of what has been produced rely on fictional stories. The films that were released used animation to capture children’s interest and musically performed as well. Walt Disney produced fantasy stories like The Little Mermaid 1989; Sleeping Beauty 1959; Beauty and the Beast 1991; Cinderella 1950 and more. The tales most often than not were always about the life of a princess in search of her prince charming.
Not only did dreamworks prove that it is possible for children’s animation to put out thought invoking and riveting stories as sequels, rather than the anticipated drop in quality, but it also showed that sometimes what becomes the most lucrative franchise comes from taking a risk with an abnormal subject matter and letting the artists take the lead. Katzenberg saw the problem with Disney and Pixar of overmanagement of films and artistic creativity and decided to change that with his studio. All of Dreamworks’ franchise style films had something to offer to the animation industry. Shrek added to the idea that adults can enjoy and relate to animated films as well as children. Suddenly adults who prefered South Park and adult swim could watch a movie with their child and laugh at the same jokes together. Not to mention throwing a wrench in the Disney style princess movies, with a Princess and an Ogre who enjoy being ugly and gross together while experiencing real couple drama and audiences loved them for that. Madagascar made Tex Avery style humor a realistic goal in 3D animated humor as well as created a new craving for zoo based films that even Disney tried to hop on with The Wild. Kung Fu Panda noticed the lamnenting of China that they didn’t create Kung Fu Panda (Rabinovitch) so it helped form the chinese animation industry by letting their Hong Kong division create Kung Fu
Michael Eisner, former CEO of Walt Disney Company strained several important relationships to the company because of his abrasive style and tendency toward micromanagement. During his 22-year tenure at Walt Disney, ex-CEO Eisner fought with the Miramax founders Harvey and Bob Weinstein over financial details relating to the purchase of Miramax. Eisner bumped heads several times with Steve Jobs who was then CEO of both Pixar and Apple Computer. The negative remarks Eisner made in front of Congress about Jobs Apple Computer was taken so personally that Jobs threatened to not renew the Disney-Pixar partnership if Eisner was still CEO of Disney. As well Eisner’s continuing disputes with Board of Director members Disney and Gold was that of disruptive behavior. For several years the long-standing board members repeatedly called for Eisner’s resignation.
Animation is found in early morning cartoons, computer games, movies, commercials and the Internet. We see it almost every day.
Although Jobs was deeply involved with Apple, he had not forgotten about Pixar. By 2001, Pixar had earned 2.5 billion, making one of the most successful movie studios of all time.
1986: George Lucas sold Pixar to Jobs for less than $10 million. Afterwards it was renamed Pixar Animation Studios.
One of Iger’s first moves was to purchase Pixar because he said that he realized the heart of the company was in its animation department, and that the team Disney had been working with had not been working as well (in question when he left, and Iger immediately distinguished his form of leadership as soon as he became the CEO and was able to distinguish himself from his predecessor.). In his first meeting as the company’s CEO, he told the board that buying Pixar was going to be a great long-term purchase and it was this first bold choice that he made as CEO and it has proven to be a profitable purchase for the company (Miller, 2015). Iger knows the truth of many things that great business people know about business which is that people are buying into Disney for the brand more than anything else. Iger came in and brought everyone together and he wanted people to know that Disney was a quality producer of entertainment for the whole family. This purchase was evidence of that new way of
