In 1905 Pablo Picasso created what some call his finest masterpiece known as Family of Saltimbanques. This piece is now on display in the Chester Dale Collection in the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC. The Family of Saltimbanques was original made in Paris, France. As well much earlier in around 1720 painter Antoine Watteau created a painting known as The Italian Comedians. He painted this piece during his career in the theater. Although this piece was created in Italy, The Italian Comedians now has within the Chester Collection in the National Gallery of Art. Although both artists were from two very different time periods and had different life they both allowed for entertainment to influence and be used in their work.
Picasso would go through various periods throughout his career during his creation of this painting he was in his, Rose Period. During this time his styling of painting would change in color. As well in line quality, some say that this painting foreshadow his Cubism movement through his use of lines. For this painting his style would became more expressive and his using in warmer colors increased. The line quality would also form a change in its appearance.
As well the style in which his presented his character become more confident. For instance each character within Family of Saltimbanques feel whole within the piece as if one character were gone the painting would collapse in substance. In comparison Watteau paintings also has this same style of character confident where if one character were to in be in the painting would collapse in substance. He also uses warm colors for his painting. In fact the color seems to bring life to the characters.

In conclusion we can see that even worlds apart artists can still find inspiration from unlikely subject matter. Watteau’s from the theater. Picasso’s from the street. Both artists not only showed their era in their art but also themselves and others. Even when it comes to entertainment it seems that not artist can escape the idea of shaping their own worlds into their piece of art. As well, both also showed not only the similarities but also differences of their era and how art was viewed.

In the Enseigne, art is also shown to serve a function that it has always fulfilled in every society founded on class differences. As a luxury commodity it is an index of social status. It marks the distinction between those who have the leisure and wealth to know about art and posses it, and those who do not. In Gersaint’s signboard, art is presented in a context where its social function is openly and self-consciously declared. In summary, Watteau reveals art to be a product of society, nevertheless he refashions past artistic traditions. Other than other contemporary painters however, his relationship to the past is not presented as a revolt, but rather like the appreciative, attentive commentary of a conversational partner.
Pablo Picasso is one of the most famous and well-documented artists of the twentieth century. Picasso, unlike most painters, is even more special because he did not confine himself to canvas, but also produced sculpture, poetry, and ceramics in profusion. Although much is known about this genius, there is still a lust after more knowledge concerning Picasso, his life and the creative forces that motivated him. This information can be obtained only through a careful study of the events that played out during his lifetime and the ways in which they manifested themselves in his creations (Penrose).

Before Impressionism came to be a major movement (around 1870-1800s), Neoclassical and Romanticism were still making their impacts. Remembering last week’s lesson, we know that both those styles were different in the fact that one was based on emotion, while the other was practical and serious. However, one thing they both shared was the fact that the artists were trying to get a message across; mostly having to do with the effects of the French Revolution, and/or being ordered to do so. With Impressionism, there is a clear difference from its predecessors.
Art is a very important part of humanity’s history, and it can be found anywhere from the walls of caves to the halls of museums. The artists that created these works of art were influenced by a multitude of factors including personal issues, politics, and other art movements. Frida Kahlo and Vincent van Gogh, two wildly popular artists, have left behind artwork, that to this day, influences and fascinates people around the world. Their painting styles and personal lives are vastly different, but both artists managed to capture the emotions that they were feeling and used them to create artwork.

Imagine you can own one of the famous painting in the world. Which one would it be? What will you do with it? If I got to own a famous painting, I would hang it in my bedroom and I’ll show it to my family. In this situation, If needed to narrow it down it will be The Persistence of Memory by Salvador Dali or Nighthawks by Edward Hopper. These paintings are extremely different, and their artistic movement is opposite from one another. By the end of this essay, you’re going to know the differences and similarities of these paintings.

His work is mostly famous with his Cubism events. As he enters its twenty-fifth year, Picasso changed his style of painting. It breaks down and reproduces objects in simple geometric shapes. Cézanne, African tribal art and Iberian sculpture would be the inspiration the painter when it turned to Cubism. (Picasso, P. (1970) With the Demoiselles d 'Avignon that this new style explodes in 1907. That same year, he met Georges Braque with whom he develops the power of Cubism. The two work closely together. To address the problem of representing what exists in three dimensions on a two dimensional surface, Braque and Picasso bring a new answer. They replace the usual codes of color, volume and perspective through a system of geometric signs. They will add to it, in a subsequent phase (synthetic cubism), the use of pieces of various materials (sand, paper, metal, wood, fabric, cardboard ...) to avoid falling into abstract art. Picasso abandons Cubism in 1915.
