1881: Pablo Ruiz Picasso was born on October 25, 1881, in Malaga, Spain, Son of Jose Ruiz Blasco, an art teacher (1838-1913) and Maria Picasso Lupez (1855- 1939)

1901: Known as the " Blue period" because of the blue tonality of Picasso’s paintings were a time of frequent change of residence between Barcelona and Paris. During this period he would spend his days in Paris. Studying the master works at the Louvers and his nights enjoying the company of fellow artist at cabarets like the Lapin Agile.
1903: In works such as the old guitarist ( 1903;art institute, Chicago) he created evocative portrayals of blind, impoverished, or despairing people in a predominantly blue palette.
His use of blue as a motif was apparently derived from the symbolic importance of that color in the contemporary romantic writings of Maurice Maeterlinck and Oscar Wilde, whose work often derived its force from the depiction of madness or illness.

Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes, better known as Francisco Goya, was born in 1746 in Fuendetodos, Spain. This was during the age of Romanticism, the art period that glorified emotion, imagination, and nature. He moved to Saragossa with his family, where he began to study art at the age of 14. Goya studied under local artist José Luzán Martínez, his teacher. He learned to paint by copying the styles of other artists, such as Diego Velázquez and Rembrandt. Afterwards, Goya moved to Madrid. There, he worked with fellow painters Francisco and Ramón Bayeu y Subías, who were brothers. He married the brothers’ sister in 1773, Josefa Bayeu. Before his marriage, he had travelled to Italy, where he entered drawing competitions (around 1770-1771). Although he failed to win these competitions, the judges still liked his art.
Edgar Degas was born July 19th, 1834 in Paris, France. Born into wealth, Degas became well educated throughout his youth. He studied Law at the University of Paris, due to his father’s desire for him to achieve financial security on his own. However, his love for art was ever-present, even at a young age. He turned his bedroom into his own personal studio by age 18. During his time at the University of Paris, Degas met well-renowned artist Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, who encouraged him to pursue his talent. Shortly after, Degas was accepted to the premiere Ecole des Beaux-arts ('School of Fine Arts'). Post attendance, Degas traveled to Italy for three years to continue his artistic studies. Degas life was nowhere near perfect, when he was 13 years old, his mother passed away. This caused him tremendous heartache, due to the fact that his mother was a lover of the arts; she was an opera singer and often gave recitals in their home (“Edgar Degas”). She inspired and encouraged his artistic ways.
Throughout his time at the academy, he learned traditional techniques in painting and sculpting as well as perspective and color. Rivera created more than two dozen paintings and was exhibited at the annual San Carlos Academy art show. His father, Ruiz , was a painter and most of his life Ruiz was a professor of art at the School of Crafts and a curator of a local museum. Ruiz encouraged his son and helped him with his art. Perhaps because of his parents work , Picasso had a love and a skill for drawing from an early age . In fact , his mother reported that his first word was pencil. His mother and father encouraged him to dream and both go their own way . "When I was a kid , my mother told me . ' If you become a soldier , you'll be a general If you become a monk you'll end up as the Pope ,'" recalled later. "Instead, I became a painter and ended up as Picasso. His work is mostly famous with his Cubism events. As he enters its twenty-fifth year, Picasso changed his style of painting. It breaks down and reproduces objects in simple geometric shapes. Born as Armand Fernandez in 1928 at Nice, the son of an antique dealer. His first lessons in painting were given him by his father. He took his Baccalauréat in philosophy and mathematics in 1946 and began to study painting at the École Nationale d'Art Décoratif, Nice. In 1947 he met Yves Klein and Claude Pascal in Paris and accompanied them on a hitch-hiking tour of Europe. Completing his studies in Nice in 1949, he enrolled as a student at the École du Louvre, where he concentrated on the study of archaeology and oriental art. His pictures at this time were influenced by Surrealism. In 1951 he became a teacher at the Bushido Kai Judo School. He completed his military service as a medical orderly in the Indo-Chinese War. He did abstract paintings in 1953.
