The journey to finding one’s professional “why” can be tough, but for me it has always been easy and led by intrinsic motivation. My “why” isn’t as simple as “I want to help people”, it’s been formed and molded by various experiences over my life. I began my first professional role in healthcare as an exercise physiologist specializing in cardiac rehabilitation and noninvasive cardiovascular testing. Cardiac rehabilitation is a true passion of mine. I love building a rapport with patients and making an impact in their lives, while helping them feel more comfortable and confident after having such a serious cardiac event. I noticed once again how important communication and building a rapport is when I see the way the physician assistant’s engage their patients. Prior to starting my career I wasn’t aware of how much of an importance physician assistant’s play when it comes to healthcare. From my experiences with physician assistants, they seem to be one of the most flexible resources in the healthcare system, and have a strong urge to deliver excellent service to their patients as well as their physician colleagues. I’ve always thrived in team-oriented environments and to me that’s a huge part of the physician assistant role. I know the practice I currently work at relies heavily on our physician assistants. During my freshman and sophomore year my grades were not great and there is no excuse for that. During the second month of my freshman year, I was blessed with a beautiful daughter. I spent most of my time taking care of my daughter and working as much as possible to support her, because of it my grades suffered. Although it was tough being stretched so thin when it came to time, I wouldn’t change a thing. Those first two years of college really showed me how to overcome adversity and also how to multitask. Starting my junior year I mastered the tasks of raising a child and working full time, while also going to school full time and my grades improved notably. My grades in the second two years of my college career are a reflection of me as an engaged
