Physical therapists help get rid of pain and will make injured individuals recover faster. There are many requirements to being called a physical therapist. Proper education is not the only requirement to be called a physical therapist, but a person must also have certain characteristics that will benefit the patients. Physical therapists help people feel better, and everyday, there will always be individuals that will get injured, which makes physical therapists necessary to society. I want to pursue being a physical therapist because I enjoy helping people. I would imagine that helping people get rid of pain and helping them recover will be a satisfying experience. There are many things that come with being a physical therapist, including the joy of helping the injured on a daily basis and the many aspects that go with the profession. An important factor in physical therapy is that a person must meet his or her own unique needs. Everybody respond differently to therapy. People have different types of bodies, different patterns of movement, different alignments, and different habits. Physical therapist can monitor each individual and develop a program to correct improper habits, alignment, and movement pattern. Physical therapists provide many services, depending on what the patient needs. The process includes many test to determine what kind of treatment will be done. These certain tests will measure movement in the areas of strength, balance, posture, coordination, and endurance. Treatment also depends on how critical the injury is. Since a young age, I always felt inclined towards pursuing a career in the health care field; daydreaming about myself working at a clinic or hospital and making a positive impact on someone’s life. When I started college, I decided to major in Biology and explored the different career options the health field had to offer me by shadowing dietitians, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare workers to find my ideal job.
Chan answered the question, “What you recommend this job and why?”, by saying, “I would but it's dependent on who you are, if you are someone who likes to do investigation instead of being told ‘it is this’ but you want to find for yourself what it is and if you are someone that is active and likes to promote activity then I think it is you.”(Chan Personal Interview). In this occupation you need to preach your knowledge not by speaking but by moving your body. When the interview came to a close, my last question was asking what the advantages and disadvantages of being a Physical Therapist are. He described that the disadvantages include the patient care load and the paperwork (where he explained that you need to document your work or ‘cover yourself’ per say); for the advantages he interpreted that you get to preach an active lifestyle, become a detective when figuring out the diagnosis, get to gather evidence through different methods, and treat the idea of what you think the diagnosis is.
