Requirements

To apply or be accepted to be a Physical Therapy Assistant for Veterans in California, you must be an American citizen, proficient in English, must pass a physical examination and background check, and are subjected to random drug tests. Education requirements include a high school diploma and successful completion of at least an associate's degree from

a college or university accredited by Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education. Physical requirements include frequent bending, walking, lifting, and handling equipment or patients. In addition, applicant must complete at least one year of a federal service and served efficiently as a PTA elsewhere with little to no guidance. Furthermore, candidates must demonstrate the ability to organize and set up data to either be stored or presented informal or formally to a patient or other staff member and must display thorough knowledge of the practice and continue learning through programs such as continuing education courses, in-service trainings, or journal article reviews.
Job Duties
The duties of this job include performing technical work such as treatment, instruction, and working with Veterans in their rehabilitation activities to enable the patient to improve functions, decrease pain, and improve daily activities.

Assistant must work under the therapist to carry out and support physical therapy procedures. Employee must be able to treat patients with diseases, injuries, and disabilities by using a wide array of therapy techniques and procedures to prepare veterans for future activity. This job also requires the employee to productively co-operate with other medical personnel and therapists. Care-giver must screen, advise, and assist patient through therapy and promote a positive outlook for their recovery. Physical therapy assistant must aid in maintaining a safe environment for both the workers and veterans. This may include maintenance of machines, safety checks, cleaning, and

stocking.
My Interest
I am interested in this job in my future after college. Along with always wanting to be a physical therapist as a young child, I especially am intrigued by this job because the employee is caring for the brave people who serve the United States and protect it. I have wanted to be a physical therapist since my dad got a double knee replacement and went to therapy for recovery. I was always fascinated by it and wanted to help the assistants. I also love the idea of living in California because I love the beach.
