John Newman was born in Austria on 8 December 1946.
He had a history of involvement with the labor movement and the Australian Labor Party. Spending much of his working life as a union official.
Newman was elected an alderman on Fairfield Council in 1977 and continued on the council for 10 years. He was also Deputy Mayor in 1985–86.
Newman had been the target of numerous death threats from Asian gangs but did not seek police protection. During the night of 5 September 1994 John was shot twice and killed.

Before we get to those details of John Newman’s death lets recap who his supposedly murder was.
Phuong Ngo was born in South Vietnam he had made several unsuccessful attempts to flee the country after the fall of Saigon. Although in January 1981, he made his 13th attempt, and succeeded to arriving in Australia.
Ngo, rose rapidly in local politics. On 8 October 1987, he was elected to the Fairfield Council making him the first Vietnamese born Australian to enter local government.
Phuong Ngo, who had previously attempted to secure Labor Party pre-selection for the seat of Cabramatta; John had run against him as an independent in 1991. Two of Ngo's alleged associates were acquitted. So this proved more evidence for the death of John Newman.
Phuong Canh Ngo was convicted of ordering the killing of Australian MP victim John Newman. It was described as the first political assassination.

Ngo was arrested for Newman's murder on 13 March 1998. Two mistrials were trialed and the third one convicted by a jury in the state of NSW June 2001. The trial was held at the Supreme Court of NSW. In 2004 Ngo tried to have an appeal at the High Court of Australia but failed.

On 14th April 2009, NSW Judge David Patten delivered his report on the Inquiry into the Conviction of Phuong Canh Ngo for the murder of John Newman.
Ngo appealed the Court of Criminal Appeal for an extension of time to appeal against his life sentence. Judge Dunford handed down his decision in which he refused to grant an extension of time, however, in doing so, he considered carefully whether such an appeal would succeed. He found that such an appeal would fail.

Mitigating circumstances Ngo was a vietnamese refugee, so his past challenges were not known. Ngo also had no criminal records previously in Australia, apart from being jailed in Vietnam for trying to escape.
The Fairfield City Council named a local swimming pool on behalf of John Newman as a legacy.
In conclusion we think that the legal system was right to imprison him.

Decades later in 2001 the AIDWYC (Association in Defence of the Wrongly Convicted) became actively involved in the case and asked for it’s reopening. After the review of the case by retired Justice Fred Kaufman and his submission of a 700-page report, in 2004 then Justice Irwin Cotler found “that there was a reasonable basis to conclude that a miscarriage to justice likely occurred” (Timeline of the Truscott Case Truscott Timeline). Also, Irwin Cotler made the Ontario court of appeal listen to the Truscott case again as it was new, with fresh evidence. In 2006 the Court of Appeal listened to witnesses that claimed to see Truscott with Harper on his bicycle crossing a bridge towards Highway 8, years ago on the day of the murder in 1959.
John L. Lewis was born in the town of Lucas, Iowa on February 12th, 1880. His parents are immigrants from Wales. When John was fifteen, he started working as a miner in Illinois. Between 1898 and 1907, John was voted to be a local representative to the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) in the year 1906. Lewis also tried farming, construction work, and owning a small business, before joining the labor movement in 1907. The United Mine Workers of America , aka the UMWA, later elected John as branch secretary. In 1909, he served as president of the Panama local of the United Mine Workers of America. In 1910, he would be elected as an Illinois representative on UMW's state legislature. He took a national position in the American Federation of Labor (AFL), as an organizer, in 1911. Lewis departed from the mines in the year 1911, to become an organizer for the American Federation of Labor. In 1916, Lewis was the UMWA president and appointed chief arithmetician for the union. In the year 1919, three years after his election, he became the president of the largest trade union in America in 1920. He held this position until 1960, when he retired.

Ho Chi Minh was born on 19th of May, 1890 in the village of Hoàng Trù in Vietnam during the time of the French colonisation, his given name was Nguyen That Thanh. His father, Nguyen Sinh Sac, was a district magistrate during the early 19th century, who was openly critical of the French policies that had infiltrated the executive arms of the country's ruling elite.
