Philosophy of Education
An epidemic of fragile families and a savage society filled with countless negative images puts many of our children at risk of becoming victims rather than the victors they were created to be. While all children are blessed with their own minds, talents, and the ability to grow and mature into adults, they must make a way for themselves in a world overwrought with sex, violence, and crass materialism. Because of this, they are handed low self-esteems, broken dreams, and false hopes in the place of options, opportunities, and hope in a better future. Therefore, the purpose of an education is to restore these things into the community, into each family, and into the heart of every student.
The variety in talent that our children possess is absolutely remarkable. I believe that each child has some sort of ability that will allow him/her to succeed and function in society as a positive role model. The problem is, however, getting these children to look within themselves for the power to get through their different family situation...
Pashtana said she would rather die than not go to school and acted on her words. Her education is limited and she doesn’t have all the recourses to make school easier, yet she still loves and wants all the knowledge she can get. While I sit in my three story private school, a clean uniform free of holes or loose seams, my macbook air in my lap, the smell of cookies rising up from the cafeteria, wishing to be anywhere else but there. No one has beat me because I want to go to school, no one has forced me into a marriage, I’ve never put my life in jeopardy for the sake of education. Pashtana’s life and choices made me take a moment to stop and reflect on my own life and how fortunate I am to have what I have.
To begin diamonds are can be found all over the world including countries like, Botswana, Canada, Namibia, Russia, South Africa, Australia, and Tanzania. Yet, diamonds are still quite rare and are only found from two dominant deposits. The primary deposits often consist of diamond-bearing “pipes” of volcanic rock called kimberlite. Deep within th...
Luigie Olmos Instructor: Danielle Panto English 105 November 28, 2016 Reaching For A Better Education Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” (2016). Mandela’s says that education is very powerful, you can use education to change the world or your life. This means that education is important in life and we all need a good education to succeed in life. In our society education is failing because schools demand too much for a great career. For example, schools take too much time to graduate and after we finish school there is no guaranteed employment. Therefore, students are dropping out of school and are going to the workforce or military. We could make education better for students
In the state of South Carolina, public school students are educated on a lower level than they are striving to complete. They are taught on the expectation of acquiring only a minimally adequate education, which only requires the rudimentary knowledge of the primary subjects. With expectations set beneath the level students should be learning, they are being hindered from seeing and reaching their full potential and lose sight of the dreams they have for their futures. Often these students become trapped in their social and cultural capitals due to these low expectations. Minimally adequate education provides the foundation for a lower quality of life and if left unchanged will create larger social and cultural dilemmas. The concept of minimally adequate education in South Carolina’s educational system must be changed in order to better the lives of the students and to prevent the hindering of our students by continuing to “norm” them to low expectations.
As a future educator, I have reflected on how my own personal experiences have formed me into the person that I am today, and how I can use my experiences to help my future students. I have also reflected on how I can information about family systems as well as risk and resiliency to better understand families that I will work with in the future, as well as how children with special needs impact a family’s structure. I believe all of these components are essential for teacher, student, and family collaboration and success.
Ikea is a Swedish company that provides furnished products throughout the world. Ingvar Kamprad founded it in the year of 1943. Its furniture is self-assembled thus allowing the company to reduce its expenditures and offer customers low prices in return. When segmenting a market, IKEA usually focuses on age, income level, and lifestyle. It aims to attract young, underprivileged individuals who look to buy furniture for the first time. An example of this would be college students; they are often confused, doubtful, and looking for something cheap. IKEA currently operates in twenty-seven countries including Korea, China, Sweden, and Netherlands amongst many others (IKEA.com). Although it is
The rough diamond that is beneath the surface must undergo several stages of production before being transformed into the diamond that is used in jewellery. These stages of production are costly and this was the shortfall of many of the diamond mining companies, and thus a merger was formed. The agreement b...
In How Children Succeed, Paul Tough attempts to unravel what he identifies to be, “some of the most pervasive mysteries of life: Who succeeds and who fails? Why do some children thrive while others lose their way? And what can any of us do to steer an individual child – or a whole generation of children – away from failure and toward success?” (Tough, 2012). Children are born into environments of varying circumstances, good and bad, influencing their development. Through direct encounters with researchers, educators and children of different environments, Paul Tough approaches his questions by ex...
Known as one the largest global home-furnishing retailers, IKEA currently has over 139,000 employees located in 53 countries and generates roughly 39.3 billion US dollars in annual sales (IKEA, 2014). Ingvar Kamprad began selling different types of items and founded the company in Agunnaryd, Sweden in 1943. Kamprad found that his greatest entrepreneurial opportunity was in furniture. Many households at that time were changing from receiving furniture that was handed down to desiring new, inexpensive, and stylish furniture. Kamprad was able to find a business opportunity to change the current social situation since a lot of the furniture was priced high at the time. He wanted to be able to offer his customers a wide selection of functional and well-designed furniture at a price many could afford (Bartlet & Nanda, 1996). Kamprad had a better understanding of what the customer desired and how to go about meeting those desires at prices that were lower than other furniture companies, in turn creating a competitive environment (De Kluyver & Pearce, 2011).
The word diamond is originated from the Greek word, adámas, meaning invincible. While in todays’ time diamonds are used to convey love and wealth, diamonds were first used, about 3,000 years ago, in India for a more beneficial cause. During that time they were desired, not only for their value but for their refraction of light. During the past 3,000 years there have been many myths associated with diamonds. Some beliefs were conspired based on forms of metaphysical properties, medical treatments, and a curse resulting in the death of all who owned it.
Parents who have had negative experiences in education may feel less inclined to be involved in their children’s education (Salend, 2015, pg. 178). LaRocque, Kleiman, and Darling (2011) identified parental involvement as a vital key in student success (pg. 117). If families feel uncomfortable because of prior discrimination or experiences with school, it can decrease parental involvement (Salend, 2015, pg. 178). In order to remedy these problems, schools can try a variety of solutions. Salend (2015) suggests inviting important extended family members to school events (pg. 178). This could help involve the patriarchs and matriarchs of the family and gain trust. Educators should try to address the elders first in order to show mutual respect. In addition to showing respect on a personal level, schools can gain trust by displaying respect in other ways. Making school facilities available for community activities makes the area seem more accessible and welcoming. It can also help parents build more positive experiences with the educational system and overcome the negative experiences. Furthermore, schools should decorate with various cultures in mind (Salend, 2015, pg. 178). Ultimately, if schools strive to create a more positive experience for families, they can better relate with one
Diamonds were created million years ago, when the earth was formed, the material experienced pressure of 5million times the atmosphere at sea level and temperatures between 1000~1200degreesC. These conditions caused carbon in the layers inside the planet to crystallize into diamonds. The diamonds moved up to the earth’s surface through volcano eruptions. This is why many Diamond mines are near volcanoes. Diamonds occur in two types of rock: Kimberlite and Lamprolite. Diamonds are mostly found in South Africa, India, Brazil, Russia, Australia, and Arkansas. Right now about 100million carats are mined each year. Today the largest cut Diamond in the world is the Cullian I at 530.2ct .

The value of diamonds lies on their physical properties that make them suitable for many applications. Natural diamonds are only of high value if they are scarce in nature. Realizing this, De Beers Consolidated Mines was formed to control the supply of diamonds from mines across the world. The diamond market is influenced by mine production, rough diamond distribution, preparation/cutting, and retail markets. The project will be concentrating on the retail markets for diamonds and other high end jewelry.
