Evaluation of the Philippine Constitutional Thought

According to Albert Einstein, “The strength of the Constitution lies entirely in the determination of each citizen to defend it. Only if every single citizen feels duty bound to do his share in this defense are the constitutional rights“(Kammen, 1986, p. 337). The Philippines has gone through a lot of constitutions. Not every Filipino knows the historical background of the origin of the constitutions of the Philippines, and even the meaning of the constitution itself. But what is a constitution? According to the Constitution of the Philippines, it may be defined as a written instrument by which the fundamental powers of the government are established, limited, and defined and by which these powers are distributed among the three branches and the independent constitutional bodies for their safe and useful exercise for the benefit of the people (De Leon, 2010). It is a document in which the power, limitations, organization and relation to individual are written down. The Constitution is known as the “supreme law” of the land because it is known to the people itself. It binds the people and all the part of the governments together. The Constitution also protects all the people and institutions inside its territory from unjust use of power by the government (De Leon, 2010). The Constitution is a very important part of a nation.
