Philanthropy Through Chesney Philanthropy has been a big part of people’s lives for many years. The world is a better place due to the acts of philanthropy. Many people have received much needed help because of people like Kenny Chesney. He has lived a very giving life. Kenny Chesney is country singer and songwriter. He was born in Knoxville, Tennesse on March 26, 1968 (Wikipedia 1). He has donated much of his time and money to many causes and has become one of the most generous celebrities of our time. On September 8, 2017, a hurricane demolished much of the Carribean, including the Island of St. John (News of St. John 1). Hurricanes, Irma and Maria caused much destruction including Kenny Chesney's House he had on the Island. When Chesney saw, first hand the aftermath of the storms, he said "I've never been in war, but the devastation, the people's faces in a place I know by heart, have left me feeling helpless," (NBC10 Staff 1). He felt, he was being called to help out, and decided to take action, as soon as he could. The urge to want to help, led Chesney to create The Love for Love City Foundation. Chesney and his team got to work right away. Chesney's team sent a 50 passenger plane to St. John's Island "stocked with …show more content…

Chesney donated all the proceeds from this concert to the "communities of Florida, Puerto Rico and the Islands" (Chesney Talks About His Musical Influence 2). According to the article The Joplin Tornado: The Evil Swirling Darkness it states,”Instead, they speak of the power of their faith, the strength of their community, and the generosity of the thousands of people from around the country who came to help heal their wounded city.” This is saying that they were happy that people came and helped them to persevere and rebuild their town. A Storm Chaser’s First Hand Account on the Joplin Tornado explains,“I'm watching a pick-up truck loaded with supplies and ladders--it's a local grassroots effort. That's what America's about. People helping people. That's what we're seeing here. It's not people waiting for government aid, even though there's going to be lots of people that need it. We've just got grassroots efforts of people pouring in and helping.” This shows that the people were helping those in need, and that they weren’t waiting for the government to come and help them rebuild they did it on their own. Finally Jeff Piotrowski says,”The way we got people out was that the people that came in there, they started picking up their family members and loading them into trucks and driving them to the only hospital left in Joplin. That's how we got people out of here.” He is telling us that family members and other people help each other, and help to bring back the people from their
Hurricane Katrina was considered as the worst hurricane in the history of United States. The winds and the rain were shattering people’s homes which collapsed and flooded. Thousands of people were suffering and dying. People were starving, and becoming dehydrated. Many people were left on the street and became homeless. After the hurricane, so many questions were left regarding the widespread damage and loss of loved ones. This devastating disaster destroyed the city of New Orleans and nearby cities and was estimated to cost $80 billion dollars in damage. State and local emergency in the affected area were struggling to perform urgent response missions such as emergency medical services, search and rescue, firefighting, giving food and water,
In the article “I Need a Dollar: Should you give to the New York 's Homeless?”, published on Gawker.com on July 28, 2014, Paul Cantor argues the issue of whether or not you should give money to a panhandler. Like Cantor, I have been approached several times by people asking for money. Often times I wondered, "how did you end up in this situation?” More often than not I find myself leaning towards the negative connotation; that it is their fault they’re in these circumstances. However, I generally feel that I can spare a buck or two. Cantor suggests "maybe nine out of every ten panhandlers are lying." Even if every dollar you hand out goes to something it shouldn 't, what is it really hurting? I agree with Cantor. Americans spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars a year on coffee
... Orleans. In Lee’s Documentary we see the death of a city, and a people lost emotionally, economically and in death. One may ascertain that his motivations for brining to light this enormous amount of pain and suffering in his documentary is to enlighten people, those responsible as well as bystanders to ensure that this kind of travesty is properly dealt with should it befall us again Sharon Keating is a life long resident of New Orleans, she has an immense appreciation for the culture, history, natural resources and beauty of the City of New Orleans. Every person has a fondness for home, every city was built to thrive, some have faltered but through the test of time New Orleans has remained steadfast and beautiful and we must all do our part to ensure that this magnificent history permeates our soul and continues to foster the beauty and diversity of New Orleans.

In May 1889, the Potomac River flooded and there was about two feet of water flooding the streets. A few members left Washington to go to Johnstown to help the survivors of the flood. They gave food and temporary shelter to those in need. When the members arrived, there was rubble in piles between twenty and thirty feet high. Many died and many were without food. Clara wrote, “…but if ever a people needed help it was these.” This quote shows the intensity and need of the situation. There was essentially a never ending stream of rain for weeks on end. The victims were getting supplies from many organizations, which was a tremendous help. This was another situation where Barton decided to aid many people who were in need. There were many other examples of times that Clara and other members of the Red Cross helped victims of natural disasters and wars. Some of these times include the Michigan forest fires, the Ohio River flood, the Texas famine, the Mount Vernon cyclone, and The Spanish-American

Apartments, townhouses, business, local stores, schools and much more were completely underwater. The sun was shining bright but the darkness stayed a little longer. "The word catastrophic does not appropriately describe what we're facing," said Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, who represents much of Houston. "We just don't know when it's going to end." (Griggs). By now most of the country knew the damages that were left by the hurricane, starting a movement to aid those in all the counties that lost so much in so little time. Millions of dollars were raised by many organizations and every state lend a helping hand, our neighbors became our brothers and a whole country came together for one

Thousands of homeless animals are looking for forever homes in America. Volunteering is a great way to give to your community and socialize the animals at the shelters. Working with dogs and cats that have not had good starts in their lives helps them trust again. It helps animals get over the trauma they have had before they went to the shelter. Socializing makes the animal more adoptable and they are given a chance to get forever homes. Volunteer at your local humane society 's and help out the animals like I have worked with in shelters.

Philanthropy is powerful because everyone can be affected by the love for mankind, this can change the world for better. Philanthropy is not the practice of self importance and putting yourself above others. Philanthropy and its power of changing the world is about donating to charity your time, belongings, or even sharing kind words or advice in an effort to better others. It is about giving to others less fortunate, and caring about other humans. Whether you know them or not, helping others and caring for the welfare of those less fortunate can change the world. One person can change the life of someone else's by one simple act of charity or kindness. Bill Gates is a wonderful example, due to his material advantages, he can give his belongings to others to help them, rather than keeping all his success to himself. Over his lifetime Mr. Gates donated $27
