Being a pharmacist means entering into a diverse yet extremely rewarding field of work. Pharmacists are heavily involved in the preparation and dispensing of medicinal drugs. However, some pharmacists are involved in the actual research and development for the pharmaceutical manufacturers. Pharmacists fall into the Health Science career cluster. As of right now, the demand for pharmacists is going up at a steady rate due to the rapid expansion of the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries (Job Outlook for Pharmacists). Pharmacists are generally stationed in one location for the duration of their work. Unless of course a pharmacist is leaving to study more on efficient ways to work, info on new drugs, etc.. Pharmacists work year round doing virtually the same thing they started doing. Give or take a few new or old drugs being introduced there is not significant amounts of change that happens in this occupation regarding time such as peak times. Although, it could be argued that during some seasons there is more of a demand for prescription drugs to be given out because it might be a “sick season”. Therefore, this would cause a “peak” period. Most pharmacists generally work 40 hours a week. As with all professions though there are pharmacists, around 12%, that work more than 50 hours per week (Pharmacists - What They Do). Being a pharmacist requires a fairly decent amount of well tuned motor skills. This is simply because a pharmacist with shaky hands can overprescribe someone due to maybe giving more than the intended amount. I had a feeling the salary would start painfully low but it would eventually climb the more time I put into it. It all depends on whether I choose to pursue this or not. Considering everything about being a pharmacist or a professor, I feel very strong about doing either one of these professions. I thoroughly enjoy doing things for the good of mankind and being a pharmacist is one way of helping people overcome things such as disease. Being a professor is rewarding in its own sense because it allows me to teach the youth about something I truly am very passionate about. Lastly, I find the professions very costly to study and that would be the only deterrent toward pursuing either of these careers. The simply fact that maybe I won’t be able to find a job and then I would be out about $150,000.
About two years ago my closest friend passed away. As I sat at her bedside in the hospital I was shocked to see her in that stricken position. I wondered why was this happening to her?Why was she suffering needlessly? Since I was the age of 16, I have had the desire to help others. It first started with my neighbor Cheryl Conel. Cheryl was an intimately close neighbor of mine who I used to work for. As the years went by Cheryl and I became closer and our friendship strengthened considerably. She became my first strong female role model. Cheryl became very ill one day and learned that she had a Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection. This bacteria presented very suddenly and quickly caused her to lapse into a coma. I didn't understand at the time just how ill she was-- in my mind I thought she was going to recover and go home soon. I quickly learned that this bacteria is very difficult to eradicate and about a week later on December 9th 2009, Cheryl passed away. I was extremely devastated because I had just lost my mentor and my best friend. I wanted to learn mo...

My interest in being a clinical pharmacist was first aroused during my SPEP rotation in the hospital setting where I was really impressed with the role of clinical pharmacists who provide a consistent process of patient care with healthcare teams to maintain the appropriateness, effectiveness and safety of the medication use. Unlike a pharmacist, a clinical pharmacist has a more diversified responsibilities and closeness to direct patient care. Moreover, provides

Since my early schooling days, science and mathematics have always fascinated me given that all components of the world are explained on the basis of these disciplines. In this regard, Pharmacy which is based on Chemistry and Mathematics has interested me a great deal as it has direct impacts on our daily lives. Pharmacy is a very misunderstood career in the medical field. Many people believe that pharmacists only count and sort pills, but there is actually much more than what meets the eye. Pharmacists have a variety of responsibilities that they perform throughout their careers. They often fill prescriptions for patients, which does involve counting and sorting pills.
