Good afternoon, ladies and gentleman it is an honor to stand before you today by invitation of the White House. I was graciously invited to speak about a topic that more or less will affect all of us in our lifetime. Congress and our elected representatives are in a constant battle to decide the fate of our medical care and it has slowly become a controversial issue that seems to have no end. But, as they constantly bicker about a policy that will work out in favor of political interests and for profit pharmaceutical companies, we fail to realize the substantial effect this may have on the lives of the citizens in this country that are currently ailing from diseases and injuries. While pharmaceutical companies have lobbyists who may speak for …show more content…
Knowing I wanted to be a doctor, my abuela took the initiative to take me to a nursing home so that I could experience what it would be like to have a career in the medical field. From there, my love for helping others grew exponentially. I also saw just how dire the situation was for some of the patients in the nursing home that relied on medical care and their health insurance to provide them with medicine and the care they needed. The elderly are under a huge amount of pressure because of the cost of healthcare. Not everyone is lucky enough to have a caregiver like my abuela to cover the costs of medicine like my abuelo did. The pharmaceutical companies know they rely on their prescription medicine in order to live and see them as nothing more than walking moneybags. In reality, most seniors living on their own live off their social security, which, for many, barely allows them to pay rent. I want to become a cardiologist in geriatrics because I see the unending need for medical care for the elderly. It is through these first hand experiences that I can confidently say that our current healthy system is faltering to an extreme degree of
Good afternoon! Our teams name is the Medicans, now I know that sounds like we only support one thing but we believe in all of our subjects equally. Today I will be talking about lowering the cost for prescription/medical cost, making school time later in the day, and changing taxes. The first subject I will be talking about it Prescription/Medical Cost. For citizens who have to pay for prescription/medical cost, it can become quite expensive. Insurance may cover the costs but when they don't and you truly need it fast what will you do? We believe in lowering prescription/medical costs. Now I know you might be thinking or maybe you’re not but this sounds an awful like Obama care, well since our new president was just elected Donald Trump,
In America, it has become a battle to earn a high paying job to cope with the expenses of a typical American. It has become even more of a battle for some people to afford medical prescriptions to keep healthy. Health becomes a crucial issue when discussed among people. No matter what, at one point or another, everyone is going to stand as a victim of the pharmaceutical industry. The bottom line is Americans are paying excessive amounts of money for medical prescriptions. Health-Care spending in the U.S. rose a stunning 9.3% in 2002, which is the greatest increase for the past eleven years. (Steele 46) Many pharmaceutical companies are robbing their clients by charging extreme rates for their products.
Today I am going to be choosing diabetes for my medical topic. There are several types of diabetes. There is type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes and gestastional diabetes. Our body naturally produce insulin and but sometimes there are cases where are body doesn’t produce enough insulin or does not properly respond to the insulin produced which results in high blood sugar levels. High blood sugar levels is not healthy for our bodies because it can lead to us going into a coma. If this is left untreated it can cause very serious health problems including death.
Type 2 diabetes is a progressive condition occurring in adults over 45 years but is now increasing in younger age groups such as children, adolescents and young adults. With type 2 diabetes the body becomes resistant and the insulin gradually loses that capacity to produce enough insulin to the pancreas. Diabetes is the fastest growing chronic condition in Australia. The numbers with people diagnosed with type 2 diabetes is increasing. In the past year more than 100,000 people have been diagnosed with diabetes. (https://www.diabetesaustralia.com.au/diabetes-in-australia) The numbers with people having type 2 diabetes is increasing in children mainly because they are not getting the right about of exercise each day, and eating incorrectly. This is happening because of the all the new electronic gadgets. This is concerning because this disease is taking memorable years from that person’s life. An idea for treatment could be that kids and adults should manage their life style more by eating healthier and doing more exercise. They could also go to the doctors and have
Imagine your laying in a hospital bed hooked up to various machines. The doctors and nurses are persistently coming in to check up on you while you’re trying to get through the pain, weakness and slow wasting away of your body. On top of that you are grieving the side effects from numerous drugs, constipation, restlessness, you can barely breathe. You have no appetite because you are constantly throwing up. The doctors have given you little to no chance of survival; and death is at hand, it is just a matter of when. You have said your goodbyes, you have come to terms with dying and you are ready to meet your creator. Now if you had the chance to choose how and when your life ended would you take advantage of it?
In sum, America needs to reevaluate the status quo surrounding medical care. It is becoming increasingly apparent that the current model only benefits a select few and causes insufferable costs for the rest of the world. If there is no reform for these issues, money will continue to be siphoned directly into the pockets of large, for-profit companies that benefit from the strife of
Do you enjoy paying medical bills? Healthcare accounts for about 1/6 of the entire economy, more than any other industry. Researchers find that the spending on health care totals about $2.5 trillion which is about 17.5% of America’s gross domestic product: a measure of the value of all goods and services produced in the United States (New Health Insurance). It covers money paid to health care providers such as hospitals, outpatient centers, veterans’ affairs and other clinics, doctor and dentist practices, physical therapists, nursing homes, home health services and on-site care at places such as schools and work sites. Also included are retail sales of prescription and nonprescription drugs, premiums paid to health insurers, and revenues of makers of medical devices, surgical equipment and durable medical equipment such as eyeglasses, hearing aids and wheelchairs. It also counts out-of-pocket payments by consumers for health insurance premiums, deductibles and co-payments, along with costs not covered by insurance. Healthcare is one of the biggest economic problems Americans are facing. Medical care and health insurance expenses are impacting the lives of many Americans today. The focus problem, which once was uninsured Americans inability to pay for their medical care expenses are no longer a problem that is affecting only those who are uninsured, but is also steadily becoming a problem for those with health insurance. The problems of health care are affecting many American people: the uninsured/underinsured and insured, the unemployed and working, children and retirees, single individuals and families, men, women and small businesses. The list goes on. These problems can be solved in a dramatic reform to socialized healthcare. ...
If you wake up in the morning with swollen gum and severe toothache, what is the primary thing that should you do? How can you be sure of what kind of dental work your teeth need? Do you know the competitive dental charge of today 's market?
Thank you for your first affirmative speech, and now I will make a speech, which is going to be against to your claims and points. Most people do not even know what single-payer means. So let’s start with what we have. We can think of the American healthcare system as a series of tubes. We don’t have single-payer healthcare, we have thousands and thousands of payer healthcare.
I believe everyone has the right to get proper healthcare because we all need to be in great shape, and keep a healthy heart and lungs, so we could live longer. Health care is important when it comes to Children and teens because they are in their growing stages they are more prone to getting sick easily because they are more exposed to the environment changes. With young adults and older, having access to health care will help them live a healthier lifestyle. As for seniors, health care is very important so that they can live a more comfortable life.
My major is Health Science (Health Policy) and with this major, it is so broad that I believe I can do many things with it. I believe this major focuses on administration jobs whether it is at hospital, clinical, or school settings. By writing this legislation and acknowledging these steps of implementing, it will help with my future job such as administrating in a school setting in terms of providing healthier food and beverages and/or physical activity. My other option would to work in hospital setting under pediatric or my route could be completely different and work with adults and create or implement a policy that promote health and wellness. I am unsure but I do see myself walking towards that route. However, my focuses are on children
At work today, I asked a few coworkers to give me their take on Obama Care and to my surprise, they agree with Donald Trump’s first point on repealing Obama Care. They feel that it is absurd to be forced into purchasing health insurance even if one has a clean bill of health. Being fined for not having health coverage and being subjected to paying higher premiums has them turning their noses upwards in disgust at what they believe is one of the worst decisions in Presidential history. During the course of our discussion, I brought up charity care and the funding that makes it possible. My response to them was, “If you don’t have health insurance and there is a change in your health status that requires you to be admitted into a hospital, one of the first things that will come out of your mouth will be in regards to the information on Charity Care. What type of funding do you believe helps this organization run? Your taxes! Why should my taxes increase to help an organization like this help you, when you can apply for health insurance through the health care market-place? One of the objectives
I have watched a good number of presidential speeches to Joint Members of Congress in my lifetime. The one President Obama gave shocked me to the core. How do you sell a bipartisan bill on health care reform by smearing the other party. From the one trillion dollar deficit he inherited, to accusing town hall citizens, Republicans, insurance companies, to labeling everyone who doesn’t agree with him about documented parts of the House Health Care bill as liars, to nailing Sarah Palin. How does that help sell his plan.
Specific speech purpose: To persuade the class that emotional/mental health is important, and is in fact even more important than their physical health.
I was visiting my brother in Massachusetts when I got sick on the airplane. I went to the emergency room and I was immediately admitted into the hospital. The doctor recognized my symptoms and immediately took action to medically treat my condition. I enjoyed my week stay in the hospital because the nurses and I became so close and the nurses were there for me when I needed them. The nurses kept me inform, comfort me by making me feel everything was going to be alright. The nurses that took care of me genuinely cared and guided me each step to recovery. This life changing experience gave me inspiration to continue my dream of becoming a
