Persuasive Speech On Lifeguarding

I could write about millions of thing to you, but I would really like to tell you all about my summer break. Don’t get me wrong it was an amazing summer in all but, I just wish I had a little more time with my dad, and a little less time with work. My dad’s been in the navy for about fifteen years, I do believe. He’s been stationed in Maine, Louisiana, Ohio, and now, The Golden State, California.

Having two jobs, Zoup, and Lifeguarding, makes it hard to manage time for friends, and family, but of course I tried my best. For Lifeguarding I averaged a forty hour work week, for Zoup I averaged ten hours a week. It was great having a mix of the two jobs, and having different experiences every day, but fifty hour work weeks really did tend to drain

my energy levels by a lot. Lifeguarding this past summer was different from what I’m use too, I Lifeguarded and Strongsville Recreation Center for a year, then I left there to get a job closer to home, I was soon hired by Middleburg Heights Recreation Center.

I still work there to this day, it’s different at Middleburg Heights because it’s much more organized with the way they do things around there

and I love that about Middleburg Heights Recreation Center. I Had a different experience each and every day I worked there, one day I’d have to yell at the patrons for breaking simple pool rules to fallow, and another day everyone would just be having fun without breaking any rules, but the best days, even though this may sound bad, I love the thrill of jumping in the water to save someone’s life. Who knows, they could cure cancer one day, but they could also but a serial killer, I’m going to just stick with curing cancer someday. Zoup isn’t as special as saving lives, but I do get to try a new soup pretty much any time I go to work, one thing I don’t like about it would be I don’t get to yell at someone if they piss me off, I just have to stand behind a counter and say “I was wrong” or some other phrase I don’t believe in, but again at least I get to eat soup all day.
Helping my dad move to Point Mugu, California, was one of the best vacations I’ve had in the United States of America.

We started our travels down in Columbus Ohio. The week leading up to the big move we spent at Deer Creek State park, for a family reunion, where my dad and step mom, had the chance to see everyone again, before the journey began. Over all we had taken nine days to get to our destination. First stop, Saint Louis, Missouri, we stopped to see the Gateway Arch. It was a lot bigger than I thought it would be, so of course I was pretty amazed. The first few days were our longest driving days, but sense we broke up the days, our longest day was eight hours. The second day was the worst, Oklahoma is so boring to drive through, and nothing but flat crop farms, and wind turbines everywhere you look. We drove till we got about seventy five miles from the boarder of New Mexico, And Oklahoma. We got up early and began a shorter dive to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where we went to Petroglyph National Monument, yeah it was interesting, but after you see a few hundred, they all start to look the same. The next morning we took a beautiful hike and took many pictures to capture the moment. Other than getting there, my favorite part of the trip, was Arizona, where we stayed four days in Flagstaff, one day in Holbrook, and one day in Phoenix. I wouldn’t mind if I lived in Arizona, it’s a very beautiful state. My family and I stopped by the Petrified Forest National Park, and I

could honestly say I’ve never seen anything like it, millions of pieces of petrified wood, all over the place, the national park has part of the Painted Desert in side also. We drove on the twenty eight mile road, and it was just filled with different layers of sediment, which looked completely different, compared to if it was raining, or if it was bright and sunny. After that long day we drove to our hotel where my family and I got some rest, because the next day we were going to go to the Grand Canyon. We slept in till about noon and packed a few things for the day, then headed out. Before making it to the Grand Canyon, we stopped at Sunset Crater National park. Sunset Crater is where an active volcano use to be. It erupted over one thousand years ago and the land is still recovering, some areas better than others. All the mountains around were just covered in volcanic rock, so I can see why plant life was having a hard time trying to come through. We didn’t spend much time there because that wasn’t the main focus of the day. We were soon off to the all mighty Grand Canyon. Once again I was just blown away because I guess I couldn’t wrap my mind around the idea of how “Grand” it was, yeah I’ve seen tons of pictures of it, but it’s just not the same in person, I’d describe it as breath taking. After exploring around for a few more hours we headed back to the hotel where again we all just fell right to sleep. The next day we drove to Sedona, where I wouldn’t mind living at all, we just walked around and bought a few souvenirs for ourselves. We finished up late afternoon, and drove down to Holbrook, where we met up with my uncle and aunt that live near there. Around time dinner that night, my uncle mentioned a race he wanted my dad to run with him, so of course my dad said yes. My dad’s a great runner, but I really didn’t know how he’d do, because he’s not use to the elevation, or even the terrain. Ironically enough he finished in first place. I was so proud of him, and I’m sure he was proud of himself. We celebrated with some great Mexican food, then we were off. We headed to phoenix, we were very excited for this part of the trip, because if was our first time seeing a good friend that we had from Louisiana, that was now living there. Driving there was a blast. There were an abundant amount of cacti stretching to twenty feet in length. Once we got to phoenix we honestly just relaxed inside the whole time. The temperature reached a high of one hundred and seven degrees, which wasn’t new to me because I use to live in Louisiana, but what was new to me was that there was no humidity, it was bone dry. After we spent a few hours catching up it was finally time for a wonderfully home cooked meal. I was really starting to miss them, because this was the first one the whole road trip. I scarfed it down like there was no tomorrow, and it was time for dessert. I helped make a fire in the back yard, so we could make a few S’mores, after devouring those too, we went inside to get to sleep because the mosquitoes were pretty bad that night, and the next day was the big move in. We woke up at six ante meridiem where we had a quick and easy breakfast. Then we said our goodbyes and left to our final stop. I was very excited to be there but also pretty sad because I knew the time was coming to when my sister and I had to get on a plane and come back home. Unpacking went very smooth and fast. That day we had gotten everything in the house, and unpacked, and put away many things in four rooms. The next day we finished the unpacking and enjoyed the rest of the day. The military base my dad lived on, had its own private beach where we spent the days leading up the plane ride home. We saw many things, such as dolphins jumping out the water, seals swimming around, and lots of C-130’s flying around. The morning we left was very melancholy. I really didn’t want to go, but I’ve got to many things lined up in life already.
