Cell phones posses our lives. As of 2012, 82 percent of American teens, ages 16-17, own a cell phone (“DWI: Driving While Intexticated”). This statistic does not include the 90 percent of American adults (“Mobile Technology Fact Sheet”), and the 56 percent of children ages eight to twelve that own a cell phone (“Kids Wireless Use Facts”). Second graders on up now own a phone. The fact second graders own cell phones is beyond me. A second grader should play outside, construct forts out of blankets, and play with Barbies. I never sat around on an electronic device and rot my brain on social media, and I did not text my friends; I actually saw them, face-to-face. There is no need for little kids to obtain cell phones. Giving a child a cell phone only generates an attachment as they grow up, and they lose etiquette. Kids and adults alike do not know the appropriate time to use their cell phones and social media on them. One inappropriate time to pull out a cell phone is during a conversation. Let me enlighten on the word conversation. According to Merriam-Webster, the word conversation means, “oral exchange of sentiments, observations, opinions, or ideas” (“Conversation”). In today’s society many kids are walking around with cell phones. Seventy seven percent of kids ages twelve to seventeen have a cell phone. The main reasons why kids have cell phones are: safety, convenience, affordable, responsibility, and bonding through texting.
In conclusion, this essay has tried to argue that cell phones are valuable tools in schools. Many of us see cell phone pessimistically but really haven’t looked at them optimistically. We all know that "with every good, comes a bad, and with responsibilities, come consequences". By all means allowing cell phones in schools is a great idea, and students should start to learn the positive features of that new device. Overall, this essay has attempted to show that allowing cell phones in schools is not a bad idea.

According to Liz Kolb (the author of “Toys to Tools”) Digital etiquette is “a basic set of rules you should follow in order to make the internet better for others, and better for you.” Kolb says in her book that “an educator’s job is to help students navigate and stay safe in their media world”. Cell phones are wonderment 's of technological advances over time. Though when do Cell phones become a tool that could be used to cause suffering, like in this case getting me in trouble. None the less, the time I was used my phone the wrong way not only got me in to trouble, but made me realize that I should think before I do.
