Have you ever seen that commercial where a dog is locked up in a kennel and looks up at the camera with sorrowful eyes, whilst a melancholic music or song play in the background? This is to raise awareness about animal shelters that try to save animals by taking them off the streets. However, what you may not know is that not all of these animals are only picked up off the road.
Animals have also been seized from caretakers that either neglect or abuse them. This means that these animals have suffered under someone’s care and must be taken away to a shelter or elsewhere so that they may receive proper care. Animals have the same rights that we do, and have done nothing to deserve this bizarre treatment. This is a growing problem that may have

Well, back in the 14th and 15th centuries, animals didn’t have as many rights as they have today. They were usually blamed for the crimes of others and sentenced to trials to be punished. It’s also believed that animals were tortured and throughout the sixteenth centuries. However, in the 17th century, people began to realize that torturing and maiming animals was very cruel and unusual. In Europe, people also started to feel compassion for animals and believed it to be wrong to hurt or torture them. During the 18th century, while philosophers wondered whether or not animals could feel pain, they were still tortured. Finally, in the 19th century, a law was passed that forbade this unusual practice on animals, however even then science experiments were still conducted on animals, usually with harmful and terrifying results. Consequently, in the twentieth century there are many movements against science experiments using animals as guinea pigs. Organizations like PETA ( People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals ), and ASPCA ( American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals) was formed ("Animal Rights."). They struggle to raise awareness about animal cruelty, since it is in our nature to look the other way. Animal cruelty is a cruel and unreasonable action that has a negative impact on an animal’s …show more content…
Imagine that you are a normal person walking down the street. Alright, now imagine that a window is left open and out of curiosity you end up looking in to see what is behind the glass. Behind this lies a dog with ribs that are easily discernible and is too exhausted or weak to do anything anymore. You would be horrified to find that there are six starving puppies that lay around the dog. You call animal control and to your relief, they find the owner and after arresting him, they carry the mistreated animals into a emergency vehicle that heads straight for the nearest animal shelter. Later as you watch the news, the same man is convicted on seven accounts of animal abuse and cruelty and is sentenced to 10 years in prison and a $4,000 fine. Not only does animal cruelty land you in places like jail, but it may even hurt your chances of getting a decent job since they would look up your criminal record and find these charges. People won’t look at you the same way since you were the one to starve a cat to death and stab a dog right after. That isn’t the only consequence you face either. It is against our ethics as humans to treat an animal in this
What a good way to urge viewers to donate money than by showing in the commercial pictures of sorry looking animals? The type of objects they use are cages, crates, and the animals. It targets any animal or anybody in reality because they can see that these animals are in need of help, also that these animals have been abused. This commercial has demographic is an extremely important factor in commercial productions, the fact that so many different people are susceptible to the pathos of the commercial to the point of tears. This commercial had a use of music and it also plays an important role in the use of pathos. The song “In the arms of an Angel” by Sarah MacLauchlan has a part that makes me sad every time I seen the commercial “There always some reason, to feel not good enough” (Sarah McLachlan SPCA, n.d.) and this is sad because these animals don’t feel good enough and you can tell by their
Good evening comrades, or should I say fellow “slaves”. I’m afraid to say Napoleon and his fellow piggy followers have us all under their control, metaphorically, wrapped around their little curly tails. I believe I am correct when I say this; many of you here today had sneaking suspicions about the trustworthiness of the pigs. I am here to tell you these suspicions are true; Napoleon and his army of pigs are controlling, lying, and unequal tyrants! The solution to this is all very simple. Elimination. We must rebel against their cruel injustice, and chase them off the farm just like we did Jones many years ago.
“There can be many reason for animal cruelty, like any other form of violence, is often committed by a person who feels powerless, unnoticed, or under control of others. Some who are cruel to animals copy acts what they have seen or that have been done to them, others see harming an animal as a safe way to get revenge against--or threaten-- someone who cares about that animal”. (“Animal… Statistics”) Concerns towards abusing animals have gone up in the past. Although there are not many cases on animal abuse, many have occurred. Abusers are charged with Criminal Animal Abuse and then sentenced to life in prison. Some animals that are physically abused are sometimes rescued by Animal Control, and are taken it to an animal shelter. However, many shelters have not had the space to keep the animals so the workers would have to put them down (Carol Roach). Researchers have shown that the main animals getting abused are dogs, chickens, horses, and livestock (“Animal...
Do you know that if you buy a pet from a pet store, there will be some animals die in the shelters? Do you also know that every year there are thousands of sheltered animals are euthanized—mercy killing— because there is no space for them? Many people buy pets rather than adopt from shelters because they think they are healthy, purebred and well-behaved. But actually the sheltered animals may be healthier, happier and much cheaper. In the recent years, more and more people decide to adopt animals since there are numerous advantages such as changing a homeless animal’s whole life, reducing illegal trade and puppy farms and benefiting from long- term advice and support.
Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience to act aganist animal testing because it is cruel and inhumane.
Attention getter: Lion, tigers, and bears, oh my! When the circus comes rolling into town, many people are excited to go and that is all that is talked about; about the clowns, the trapeze artists, the ring leader, the elephants and all the other marvelous wonders of the circus. But would you all still be excited to go if you knew the truth about the circus and the animal trainers of how they treat the animals? Because in reality, for our spirits to raise at the circus, they break the spirits of all the animals, especially the elephants.
Most seventeen year olds participate in a winter sport, myself included. Most started participating in their sport when they’re young, myself included. Most seventeen year old’s sport doesn’t take them to competitions in Main, Quebec, or Alaska, but mine did and still does. I race sled dogs. My parents met at a dog race in Chugiak, Alaska, a suburb of Anchorage. I’ve grown up playing with puppies, helping my parents to the start line, and racing my own team. I would go to my parent-teacher conference every year in elementary school and listen to my mom explain that we would be going to Alaska for two and a half months, and that I would need my work before we left. We experienced different reactions every year. For example, my second grade teacher exclaimed “So are you running the Iditarod? That’s so cool!” This reaction is common. Most people don’t know how the sport of dog racing works. Most people think a sled dog is a fluffy dog that logs hundreds of miles because their heartless owners forcing them to, but unfortunately this stereotype
Every 60 seconds an animal is abused. Dogs, cats, horses, and many other types of animals are being neglected and tortured everyday, yet resulting in few and minor consequences for the perpetrators. Animal abuse is prevalent in the United States and has been an ongoing issue since the 1970's, and prior to. Society as a whole has chosen to avoid the facts and arguments about animal cruelty, because to some it is seen as acceptable and typical. It becomes much more frowned upon when people actually see the results of the cruelty, especially in the media.
On 06/09/17, at 5:19pm, I Deputy Warden N. Christian was patrolling the area of Karl Road and Huy Road, when I saw a black/brown Siberian Husky running loose in the middle of the intersection. I pulled over, took a picture of the dog loose and exited my vehicle. At this time dog owner Derek Scherbarth arrived at the location. I helped Mr. Scherbarth capture his Siberian Husky name Rocky. Mr. Scherbarth put Rocky in his vehicle. I asked Mr. Scherbarth if his dog was current on dog license and vaccinations. He stated Rocky was current on vaccinations but not on dog license. I asked to see Mr. Scherbarth identification, he complied. I issued Mr. Scherbarth violations for failure to license and failure to control Rocky. I cleared from the
There are almost 2.7 million animals in shelters that are put to sleep every year in the United States alone, how could anybody sleep at night knowing that all these beautiful souls are dying for absolutely no reason except over breeding? Meaning there are too many cats and dogs for people to adopt, some people would say why does this concern me in any way they are animals and there are more people dying and homeless? I would answer that question with another one what are you doing to help either of the animals or humans? have you helped at all?
Fido, the dog, is lost and wandering the streets. You can’t find him anywhere. Where will he end up? Will someone grab him and call your telephone number from the dog collar? Will the dog warden take him to the local shelter?
For however long you have been learning and trying to make understanding of the world around you, you have been deceived almost the entire time, learning about one topic; animal agriculture and how it benefits humans. You were told “facts” about animal agriculture and you may not think about them now. Let’s compare notes, were you told dairy is good for your bones because of the amounts of calcium it contains? Or the healthiest protein in animal protein? Even a famous saying, “honey is nature’s miracle product, it can benefit you in several ways,” but so is coconut oil.
To give you a technical definition, animal vivisection is the use of non-human animals in research and development projects, for purposes of determining the safety of substances such as foods or drugs. It is estimated by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, that over 100 million animals are harmed every year by this on-going process. There are several types of tests that are used on animals behind closed doors. The Draize eye test is a type of eye irritancy test that is mainly used on rabbits. They physically scream while toxic chemicals are poured into their eyes; which can lead to redness, bleeding, ulcers, blindness, and often death at the end of the experiment.
Animal abuse is a travesty in our world that must be stopped. Every year, millions of animals suffer because of human actions, directly or indirectly. Whether it’s abused dogs and cats or even mistreated circus animals, their suffering is as real as it would be if it happened to us. Even animals who are raised on farms simply for human consumption should not have to suffer. One of the worst parts of humanity’s role in animal abuse is that there are easy ways for people to help that they are either ignorant of or simply refuse to do. There are many examples of animals who are abused by humans, but there are also ways for people to help prevent and put an end to animal abuse.
The history of how animal welfare laws came to be starts in the continent of Europe in the late 1800’s. While animal experimentation began in the 1600’s in order to expand knowledge on diseases and their effects, as well as other research purposes, it wasn’t until two centuries later that animal welfare acts were implicated. In Britain the first national law, regarding animal welfare, for animal experimentation passed in 1876 and was called the Cruelty to Animals Act of 1876. This was the first step towards the legal welfare of animals and continued to grow as more countries in Europe began to adopt regulations, such as what the CAA embodied, regarding the ethical treatment of animals used in research and
