Chris, Wow, I can't imagine what you must've gone through when you witnessed that tragic event. That must have been such a hard time. I'm fortunate to have lived in a safe small town. The most action we got are kids pranking the high school during the summer and car accidents. Actually, recently there was a shooting due to road rage, but thankfully no one was hurt. I don't know if you had heard about the shooting in Cleveland a couple weeks ago, but it was bad. A man had a breakdown and recorded him murdering an elderly man. He had posted it on social media and it went viral. The networks couldn't do anything because it had gotten too popular, but I wish they could've because it was awful. I had watched it not realizing that nothing was censored. The man got away and it took them over a day to find him and he was in Pittsburgh by then. …show more content…
He killed himself when the police approached him. That is the closest thing to death I've seen. But on the other hand, everything is going good! Haha This Ohio weather is very bipolar which stinks. I'm supposed to be attending a country concert outside next week, but it's only suppose to be 60°:/ A couple weeks ago, I flew out to San Francisco to see my father. He got a job out there a year and a half ago, so I don't see him much. We went to Alcatraz which was really cool. It was crazy being there and knowing the events that have taken place where I was standing. We also went on a Segway tour which was a lot of fun. I have never been on a Segway, but lemme tell you that it is not my last time. If you ever get the chance, go on one! They are so fun. I'm also a car girl which is sorta unusual for how girly I am, but so whenever I'm in California it's always amazing because they have some nice ass cars. Saw the most beautiful R8. My boyfriend who is really a car guy was very jealous. In 10 years from now, I promise that I will have a garage full of cars. I love em. In regards to the questions you answered!
That's really good that you have visitors. (I hope I never am) but if I'm in prison I would need visitors. I'm a social butterfly! I also would need a tv! I never knew that prisons supply tvs. I definitely feel you about working out. I love to workout, it gives me personal time and the ability to release my stress and anger. I was a cheerleader in high school, so I'm big with sports. I mean how can I not if I live in Cleveland. Ya ya we have the browns and they suck, but we got Lebron! Next, about your conjugal visits, I understand- I mean I would want them haha. I do believe that your idea about the staff is smart. They should definitely change something up! In psychology we learned about this actually. They did a study and its proven that people who are put in charge become much more aggressive especially if they don't know the people they are handling. What you said about the chicken legs was so weird. I told my sister that and she thinks something's up. I tried to google it and the only explanation I found was that chickens are right legged and so their left legs are weaker. Poor
chickens. Now, the questions you've asked me! My favorite song? Uhh tough one, put a country song on and it'll be my favorite song then change it and that'll also be my favorite song. I'm very indecisive and there's just too many to pick from! If I had a million bucks I would give some of it to my parents in return for everything they've done for me over the years. I would probably buy myself a horse and a few other things, but I would definitely start a scholarship to help less fortunate kids pay for college. College is expensive nowadays! Am I religious? Yes, I am Roman Catholic and have been confirmed. Up until I was 14 I was going to a Christian summer camp every summer for a couple weeks. If I could live anywhere in the world it would have to be Hilton Head island or Capri, Italy. Both beautiful places that I've made amazing memories at. My favorite subjects in school would probably be the ones I'm best in. I recently won two awards- for math and science. I've been a math tutor since high school and also find psychology to be really interesting. If I could change anything about the world it would be the problems within society. I hate that it is 2017 and we will have race issues. I also would make it so dictators in other countries can not starve and kill their people for their own liking. Celebrity crush? Has to be Ryan Gosling, hands down. Dominant or submissive? It's changed throughout my relationships (however I have not been in many), but most of the time I've been more submissive however, I am not afraid to take control. My definition of friendship is more than I can put into words. I value friendship and look at it as a bond of emotions between two people because they share the same values. They are there for one another and can go weeks without talking and pick up on a conversation like they were talking yesterday. I have many friends because of how social I am however, I have about 3 best friends. They mean more to me than I could ever explain to them and I could never turn my back on them. My favorite movie is most likely the Notebook, cliche I know. In my free time and also some of my interests, I love to watch tv, I'm a reality show junkie, but I also love to go out and adventure. My boyfriend and I always take hikes out in the parks, but you will also find me studying. I take my studies very seriously, but allow myself to go out at nights to reward my hard work. As you can probably tell by this note, I do have a boyfriend. He's two years older than me and we've been together for a couple of years. We were very close friends before which has made our relationship so much stronger. Lastly, I have never had a pen pal, you are my first! Thanks so much for your patience! Hope all is still well and that you are safe. I would love to hear any stories you have whether it be from before prison or while incarcerated. Also, about any hopes and dreams that you have for the future! Talk soon! Samantha
After reading the book I have gained a new understanding of what inmates think about in prison. Working in an institution, I have a certain cynical attitude at times with inmates and their requests. Working in a reception facility, this is a facility where inmates are brought in from the county jails to the state intake facility, we deal with a lot of requests and questions. At times, with the phone ringing off the hook from family members and inmates with their prison request forms, you get a little cynical and tired of answering the same questions over and over. As I read the book I begin to understand some of the reason for the questions. Inmate(s) now realize that the officers and administrative personnel are in control of their lives. They dictate with to get up in the morning, take showers, eat meals, go to classes, the need see people for different reason, when to exercise and when to go to bed. The lost of control over their lives is a new experience for some and they would like to be able to adjust to this new lost of freedom. Upon understanding this and in reading the book, I am not as cynical as I have been and try to be more patient in answering questions. So in a way I have changed some of my thinking and understanding more of prison life.
Spending time in an overcrowded cell really lowers your social stability throughout time. Many of the prisoners tend to turn anti-social because they do not want to put up with the conditions in which they live. According to Terence T. Gorski the prisoners tend to develop an illness known as Post Incarceration Syndrome which is something developed through extreme confinement and lack of opportunity. The inmates are more often than not given very little opportunities to rehabilitate themselves with everyday things such as working and receiving an education in the overcrowded prisons. These prisoners are not given enough opportunity to assemble with one another because time is very strict and limited inside the prison walls. Resources are often stretched out to accommodate to everyone’s needs. The inmates tend to get treated in a very inhuman way, resulting in negative consequences. Dealing with the overcrowdedness of the prisons leads to the build-up of stress. Like every human being the prisoners will eventually get very tired of dealing with these conditions and will reach their melting point. When something like this occurs the inmate will most likely receive negative consequences such as complete solidarity. On the contrary being in an isolated cell for about 23 hours a day allows for the prisoners to ponder upon the choices
“You can get the best locksmith in the world to design the best lock he can design, is it pick proof? No, it’s not: it can be very hard to pick, but it is pickable.”- Mikko Hypponen This question has been asked many times. I have given a presentation on locks before and this was asked. I have heard people say that certain locks unpickable. Locksmith have been around since the time of the Egyptians, the future holds a lot of digital world with a new/different view for locksmith, but training is required to become a locksmith.
Over the past several decades, the number of prison inmates has grown exponentially. In 1980, prison population had numbers around half a million inmates. A graph of statistics gathered from the U.S. Bureau of Justice shows that between 1980 and 2010, the prison population grew almost five times, topping out at nearly 2.5 million. According to an article in The New York Times, the average time spent in jail by prisoners released in 2009 increased by 36% compared to prisoners released in 1990. Many people, such as those at Human Rights Watch, believe that the increase of these numbers has been because of tough-on-crime laws, causing prisons to be filled with non-violent offenders. This rise in crime rates, prison population, and recidivism, has led politicians as well as ordinary citizens to call for prison reform.
Prisons have been around for decades. Keeping housed, those of our society who have been convicted
Prohibition: the act of forbidding or outlawing something. When you hear prohibition you often think of the 1913 prohibition and the 18 and 21 amendments. Often we don 't think of prohibition in the terms of marijuana. Original propaganda was formed by the director of Bureau of Narcotics Harry J. Anslinger whose persistent actions and manipulation lead to the rise of the prohibition. Harry spread the belief that marijuana was a devil’s weed that would make you go insane and on a killing frenzy; inevitably you would go to jail. With such a frightening menace to society the Marijuana Tax Act was passed in 1937 with no scientific study, public debate, or political objection (Grass). We all know this fear mongering was untrue. Now in modern times
“According to DPIC”, death penalty laws are dated as far back as the 18th century. Death penalties came in the form of being beaten to death, crucifixion, burned alive, drowning and even impalement. America’s death penalty laws was greatly influenced by England. However, the death penalty in the United States is executed by the use of lethal injection which inflicts immediate death. In today’s society you can often find that most are in favor offenders receiving life without parole instead of the death penalty.
We all can think of at least one person who has been in prison. Whether it would be someone famous, like Lindsey Lohan, Orlando Brown, or even Martha Stewart; or someone from a nearby town or even someone that was close to you. There are even games on escaping prisons in the market, one of the newest ones being The Escapists. “You do the crime, you do the time,” as the old saying goes about committing some felony and being punished for it in prison provided by the US “justice” system. However, is “doing the time” actually working?
What is education? Should education be limited to those who are free in society and not locked up behind bars? Education is a broad term which can be interpreted in many different ways, however , it is typically defined as the action or process of teaching , especially in a school, university,or college. As we seek to refine and reform education we must understand that education expands much farther than just the classroom. For instance education in jail, it 's a gateway for prisoners to come out as a new person and have a different view on life For example Malcolm X. Also it 's less likely for a prisoner to reoffend because they 're more likely to get a job with degree they earn while being incarcerated . Also this can help save tax money.
See yourself sitting behind a glass window, looking longingly to the other side. On the other side of the window sits your brother or sister, all locked up. You are connected by nothing but an old phone line. They are wearing their shabby prison uniform, which is encrusted with dirt because it hasn’t been washed. Everyone that cares about your sibling, your mom, your dad, your grandparents, and hopefully yourself, wish that after they have spent their due amount of time in prison, your sibling will reform themselves. To reform themselves, your brother or sister needs to change themselves for a greater good. Do you believe that if they put their mind and soul to improving themselves, your sibling could leave their criminal record in the past?
I grew up with an alcoholic and drug user father. Ever since I was little my father would drink and smoke pot when he came home from work to deal with his anxiety and depression. I only knew him as an angry, passive aggressive person, and when my mom sat me down at 12 and told me they were getting divorced, I didn’t understand why. In the next 2 years, I learned what addiction was. I learned why my father was so cold and detached from society. When my father finally hit rock bottom and went to rehab I was scared for him. Since then, I wanted to know what made my father act the way he did and how he developed his addiction. I wanted to know everything I could about life in rehab centers and what goes on behind closed doors. I wanted to understand
Have you ever been charged, or worse, convicted of a crime? Do you fear that your record is now tarnished forever? What about that dream job that requires a background check? How are you ever going to explain that conviction, or even that arrest? What about a dismissal? Did you know that even dismissals show up on your record? What are your options? Do you even have any? The answer is yes. And the solution is record sealing. But exactly what is it? And more importantly, how do YOU become eligible for it?
Attention Getter – Let’s say that you made a mistake. Let’s say that you tried something one time out of curiosity and have not been able to stop doing it ever since. Imagine if this mistake you made was taking an illegal, addictive drug such as heroin. Now picture yourself in prison due to your addiction, without any option to get treatment.
Being in prison for life can be a real challenge, the inmates wake up early in the morning and if lucky they can take a shower with cold water. They brush their teeth and depending on the correctional facility the inmates are able to go outside to spend some time to play a sport, do physical training, or just walk and talk with other inmates. The most trusted inmates get jobs inside the facility and some even are able to get into school. Serving life in prison can be really hard, the offender has to get used to doing exactly the same thing each day, eating the same type of food, seeing the same people, walking through the same halls. An inmate will have to get his mind on something else, being in prison can be eternity if an offender thinks
