It is possible to go through your entire life without exploring the meaning of life. But I can't see how a person can direct one hundred percent of their efforts throughout their life to one philosophy without asking themselves the big question. If you don't know what you are doing something for, isn't it hard to get enthusiastic about it. Unless, of course, the activity is inherently enjoyable.
Let's do a quick survey. Hands up those that think a life spent without goals is pointless. How about a person who doesn't achieve any of her goals, a failure? And if a person has lofty goals and achieves most of them, she's got to be a success right? But why is that? Further more, why do we put the latter group of people on a pedestal and worship them through the media.

"People say that what we're all seeking is a meaning for life. I don't think that's what we're really seeking. I think that what we're seeking is an experience of being alive...." Joseph Campbell made this comment on the search for meaning common to every man's life. His statement implies that what we seem bent on finding is that higher spark for which we would all be willing to live or die; we look for some key equation through which we might tie all of the experiences of our life and feel the satisfaction of action toward a goal, rather than the emptiness which sometimes consumes the activities of our existence. He states, however, that we will never find some great pure meaning behind everything, because there is none. What there is to be found, however, is the life itself. We seek to find meaning so that emptiness will not pervade our every thought, our every deed, with the coldness of reality as the unemotional eye chooses to see it. Without color, without joy, without future, reality untouched by hope is an icy thing to view; we have no desire to see it that way. We forget, however, that the higher meaning might be found in existence itself. The joy of life and the experience of living are what make up true meaning, as the swirl of atoms guided by chaotic chance in which we find our existence has no meaning outside itself.
In Ithaca, the depth of Joyce's irony is displayed. The denouement of this odyssey is perfect for this story, while at the same time leaving us with the exact opposite of the resolution in the tale the book proclaims to emulate. Odysseus' public apotheosis parallels Bloom's private shame. The concise question and answer format which Ithaca adopts, found no where else in the book, is refereed to by many critics as reminiscent of a catechism. The description is well deserved given the overt religious themes in Ulysses. The almost mathematical precision of the text in juxtaposed with gut wrenching emotion surrounding infidelity. The parallels that one can draw between the characters of Ulysses and the Odyssey are perhaps the deepest in Ithaca while the themes and undertones of the work drift further apart.
The meaning of life is to find the meaning of life. Is it not? We all go through each day trying to figure out which road out the infinite amount of paths will lead us in a better direction where happiness is prominent and society is flawless. However, not every single human being is going to fit on that narrow, one-lane highway to success. Bad choices, accidents, fate, family matters, society, temptation, anger, rage, addiction, and loss of hope can all be deciding factors in opting to choose that wrong path to self-destruction. The adverse thing is, once you've traveled so far down the road, you get so discouraged that you feel like you can never turn back or make up for the "lost time."

The American Dream is composed of the freedom to be whatever you want to be, and do whatever you want to do with your life. Education, above all else, is Key when it comes to your future. However, as the education system is today, it no longer seems a privilege, a wondrous opportunity to succeed and to be what you want to be, now it 's more of an obligation, a punishment. It is without a doubt in my mind that the enactment of this bill will restore the education system into what it is supposed to be, a system meant to educate people for their adult life. Not only does this bill allow opportunity to reverse the decision to leave school, but it also allows the students to retain basic skills needed for the work force, and the reduced academic

According to Seneca, “We ourselves encounter storms of the spirit, which toss us daily, and our depravity us into all the ills which troubled Ulysses… by example of Ulysses, how I am to love my country, my wife… even after suffering shipwreck, I am to sail towards these ends, honorable as they are” (Seneca). Seneca believes that one shouldn’t merely read the story of Ulysses and admire it for how beautifully written it is, instead one should grasp what his story is teaching and use this in life. Ulysses story shows how to handle adversity and the obstacles we face in tough times through bravery and perseverance. Seneca states, “You, sir, are teaching me how the treble and the bass are in accord with one another… though the strings produce different notes, the result is a harmony; rather bring my

The term “philosophy” means the love of wisdom, and those that study philosophy attempt to gain knowledge through rationality and reason. 1 Socrates, the father of ancient philosophy, once stated “the unexamined life is not worth living”. This is the most important part of life and it is need to find purpose and value in life. If a person chooses to live their life without examination, their life would lack value and they would be unhappy. They would also be ignorant to the effects of their choices on themselves and the people around them.
“Why fit in when you were born to stand out?” (Dr.Seuss). Society often thinks of peer pressure as a negative implement. Often times the community imagines peer pressure as teen influencing one another to experiment with drugs, alcohol, and sexual intercourse. But really all peer pressure is, is the encouragement of changing values and behaviors of an individual. Peer pressure can be thought of as positive for teens, because it allows and individual to become a leader in an environment, strong encouragement to work hard in school, and lead a healthy lifestyle.
