Teens need 9 ½ hours of sleep
Sleep can decrease someone’s chance of getting depression. Sleep lets you recharge. It also makes you happier. All a teen has to do is 9 ½ hours of sleep.
First of all, if teens get 9 ½ they will have enough time to recharge. When someone sleeps it helps your brain, muscles, lungs, and heart. While sleeping, a chemical called “Cerebral Spinal fluid is pumped more quickly while you sleep… So you wake up with quite literally a clean \slate”(Sleep.org). It also help the muscles by sending growth hormones to help repair and build up them. Also, it helps with the heart and lung by giving them a slow, steady pace to work at, and 9 ½ hours is the perfect time to do so.
Second, If
you get a good night’s sleep you feel happier. If People sleep well they will feel better, look better, be safer, from diseases be smarter, less hungry, and more. These things help people feel happier .You might feel cranky, irritable, or emotionally out of sorts if you don’t snooze enough. Finally, teens should sleep 9 ½ hours of sleep if they want to be happier and healthier. Our teens need more sleep, and if they get it they will be happier and healthier. So, let's give it to them! Sleep! That wonderful, blissful void between last night and this morning. Sleep is one of the most basic functions of life. Nearly all creatures must sleep in order to properly carry out tasks; teenagers are no exception. The typical teenager needs an average of nine to ten hours of sleep a night in order for their brains to be capable of working at full capacity. School starts so early that they infringe upon that basic necessity. In order for teens to receive an adequate amount of sleep, it is mandatory to enact later start times for high schools across the country.
The amount of sleep teenagers are lacking is leading to depression, anxiety, and in some cases, suicide in high school and college students. There are many dangers caused by the lack of sleep in young adults. Also, sleep is a major part of growing a healthy body and performing your best at school and/or work. Have you ever wondered how some athletes have gotten so good at a certain sport? Have you ever thought about what they did in order for them to get this good? For some the answer is simple; workout and train. But for others the answer is different; the use of performance enhancing drugs such as steroids. There are some people that argue that steroids should be legalized and allowed in professional sports. Other people argue that steroids should not be allowed. Today I am going to state my opinion and justify my reason. Steroids should not be allowed in professional sports because it can be very dangerous to the athlete’s health, it is a way to gain and un-fair advantage and it can be dangerous in both social and physical aspects.
In order to function normally, “adequate sleep is a biological necessity” (Austin 34). College is a transition for many students, and without prioritizing many can become sleep deprived. There are various reasons that college students could become deprived of sleep. Reasons include loud roommates, sororities/fraternities, late night jobs, and procrastination. Additionally, a student could be struggling financially or academically, and this could be possible causes for keeping one up late at night. Some think that because one does their fighting from a remote control drone means that they have no understanding of war, and in some ways that is true, but they are still taking someone’s life when they choose to press that button just like the solders on the front line takes someone’s life when they pull the trigger. Over the years, the cost of college tuition has been one of the central issues limiting students, like me, from obtaining the best education that one could receive. Usually, this results in students settling for a school nearby rather than being able to have the choice to go to the best one in which they were accepted into, due to such skyrocket prices. Much of this problem or concern has to do with out-of-state tuition being much higher than in-state tuition, sometimes almost doubling the price of in-state tuition! Therefore, students are more pressured to remain in state rather than go to out-of-state schools that may offer a better education.
It’s seven thirty in the morning, the time that most American high schools begin class. Instead of being chipper and ready to learn, most teenagers, at this time of the morning, can barely remain awake. These puffy eyed pupils are by no means ready to learn. Sixty percent children under 18 reported being sleepy during the day, with another fifteen percent reporting that they had fallen asleep during the school day within the past year (National Sleep Foundation, Dozing). Though adolescents require a larger amount of sleep than younger children, they usually receive much less (Indiana University Center for Adolescent Studies). The amount of sleep a teenager receives affects him or her both physically and mentally. Sleep deprived teenagers are more likely to be irritable, be depressed, not perform up to their capabilities in school, and have a decreased ability to handle complex tasks (National Parent Information Network). Though teenage sleep deprivation is a big problem, some simple solutions such as rescheduling the school day to fit teenagers’ biological needs, setting consistent sleep schedules, and teaching children the importance of proper sleep habits can easily remedy this problem.
Were you aware that teens tend to have irregular sleeping patterns that can harm their body and the way it functions? When it comes to sleep, teens are inclined to stay up very late during the week and wake up very early in the morning. On the weekends, they seem to gravitate more towards waking up very late to catch up on the sleep that they missed earlier in the week. Now that you know what the causes of having irregular sleeping patterns can do to a teenager’s body, you will be able to see the positive and negative effects of what not having enough sleep can do to one’s self. The test also has an optional writing part that requires students to write an essay at the end. It is meant to test students to see if they are writing on a high enough to do well in college. All students should be required to take the ACT test with writing because it shows whether or not they are on a high enough level for college writing, they can save money by earning scholarships and they will be put in a writing class that is not too difficult for them.
Sleep is a fundamental need for everyone who needs sleep. Sleep is as important as eating food and drinking fluids. But teenagers are the ones seen not getting enough sleep at night. It is proven that teenagers get the minimum hours of sleep than any other age group. Teenagers are seen getting about five hours or less of sleep each night. Lack of sleep can affect many thing in a negative way. Sleep deprivation can affect things such as abilities to learn, listen, pay attention, and drive. It can also affect someone's mental health and physical health.
Getting enough sleep can increase our chances of being more mentally/physically healthy and our safety throughout the day. How we feel throughout the day is depending on our sleep. Lack of sleep can lead to impaired judgment and actions, which can be a safety hazard towards yourself and your surroundings. When we sleep, our bodies are working to revitalize the brain to form new pathways to help with memory functions and our physical health such as healing repair heart and blood vessels and hormone balance. It is very important for everyone to maintain a good night’s rest to maintain daytime performance and lower stress.
