Willing Teachers Carry Guns in Schools
The United States has the highest number of school related shootings. The optimal solution, Armed teachers. Staff members and teachers could stop an armed gunman inside a school in a blink of an eye. The armed gunman wouldn’t see teacher carrying firearms coming and here’s why.
The first and main reason why is because it would mainly to keep our school faculty members and students safe and away from danger. Some people think that firearms are bad and evil. If teachers can be taught gun safety and how to conceal a firearm; there wouldn't be any problems. Students can be informed as well. Yes, guns are lethal, but they can be completely safe if taken proper precautions. The classroom is meant for learning in a clean and uninterrupted environment. A concealed firearm in a teachers’ possession wouldn’t hurt anything. A perfect example is the Price Middle School Shooting. A staff member said he had clear visual of the shooter and he could have stopped him in his tracks if he conceal carried. The staff member could not do anything so he fled the scene. Some people consider this idea completely terrible. The liberals think that the

teachers would be the ones shooting up the school. That's why we put the teachers through multiple tests to ensure a complete feeling of safeness. The United States President, Donald Trump, posted on Twitter and Facebook that stated that “I never said ‘give teachers guns’ like was stated on Fake News @CNN & @NBC.
What I said was to look at the possibility of giving “concealed guns to gun adept teachers with military or special training experience, only the best. 20% of teachers, a lot, would now be able immediately fire back if a savage sicko came to a school with bad intentions.” Trump's opinion is the exact same as mine. Teachers should be allowed to carry if they chose and twenty percent of teachers is a lot. 20% Percent of 3.6 million is roughly 720,000 teachers across the US. The decline in school shootings would be drastic. No one would want to gun kids down, knowing that a teacher could be armed and ready for the right time to
strike. Another point would be that schools are already paying for teachers, and why pay more for extra security guards? That adds up to more taxes. Gun control advocates say arming teachers and staffers is not the answer. “The teachers who have come to me have said ‘I want the opportunity to defend my children and defend my life, and give me more powerful eraiser to throw at them(school shooters).’” Mr. White said. His observation is correct. He doesn't have much to defend himself or his kids in an active shooter incident. “That's not hypothetical , that somebody who is a good guy with a gun could be mistaken with a bad guy with a gun.” Ms. Goodman said. The theory ‘the only way to stop a good guy with a gun is a bad guy with a gun.’ comes into play. This idea is true and I agree with it. What can you do to stop a school shooter is a good guy with a gun. Thats how all school shooters end. To wrap this all up, I would say that the idea to let teachers that want to carry and protect their schools, should be allowed to carry. Hopefully, others take this idea seriously and we decline the amount of school shootings in America.
Michael Eisinger an eighth grade science teacher says, "If a gunman is going to cause violence in a school, they are going to have the element of surprise," "My guess is that they would still be able to shoot teachers, students or whoever else they wanted before some sort of coherent response materialized. (Huffington Post) Arming teachers isn’t going to solve the problem. We still will end up with deaths in schools. The gunman may decide to take the professors gun as well, which will result in the enemy having another harmful weapon.
One of the biggest debates in education is how to respond to gun violence in schools. According to BBC, “There were 64 school shootings in 2015” (BBC). One response to the rise in gun violence in schools is to arm teachers. Even our President has mentioned “giving a bonus” (Davis 2) to teachers that The fact that the idea of arming teachers is even being discussed is disappointing. Bringing more guns into a school is not the answer to gun violence. Most people that defend the idea that guns will “help” keep schools safe have basically three points: (1) teachers will be trained in gun safety, (2) it helps deter potential school shooters, and (3) it will make the students feel more safe. Even though there is some truth to those points, I think that the cons of arming teachers vastly outweigh the pros of arming teachers.
Everyone knows that parents’ first worry is the safety of their children. With the increase of violence in schools, parents have started to wonder if their children are really safe in the school setting. Shootings like Sandy Hook and Columbine left parents, administrators, and educators feeling the need to be proactive towards children’s safety. Reacting to situations like these is not good enough when children’s lives are on the line. Administration has started to brainstorm different ways to help insure the protection of their students. The idea of having teachers carry concealed weapons has been on the front burner for quite some time. As a result of this extreme idea, insurance companies have started to increase or even cancel policies with schools that have armed teachers because of the high risk they are putting themselves at. Parents and administrators also worry about the idea of children getting their hands on one of the teachers’ weapons and injuring themselves or other students. Because this idea seems quite extreme, I believe there are other alternatives that are less dramatic and more positively out looked, such as having armed security guards in schools.
One reason teachers should not be able to carry guns because guns are currently illegal in schools; Guns are illegal because they are dangerous. The Gun Free School Zone Act (GFSZA) is a federal law that was accepted in the United States in 1990. According to the GFSZA, “It shall be unlawful for any individual knowingly to possess a firearm at a place that the individual knows, or has reasonable cause to believe, is a school zone.” In order for teachers to carry guns, we would have to discard this law. Also, the school board would have to create a new policy, allowing teachers to carry guns. Adjusting the rules would be time consuming and confusing. Changing the GFSZA would make students tense and distract children from learning. Citizens from CNN Politics say, “72.4% of educators said they would be unlikely to bring a firearm to school if allowed to do so.” This data shows that the majority of teachers do not even want possession of a gun in the classroom. School officers have the right to carry guns, teachers should just focus on education. Not only does it create a huge responsibility, there would also need to be a large financial investment to supply guns for every school. This money would be hard to come up with, and not everyone is in favor of sacrificing money for firearms.
Arming Teachers In the last ten years, there have been eighteen school shootings in the United States. Elementary Schools, Middle Schools, High Schools, and Universities are all included. From these eighteen shootings there were one hundred and one students and faculty members killed, the majority being students. In the average classroom, there are at least fifteen students to one teacher. One adult is tasked with insuring the safety of fifteen to thirty students.
In “Vulnerable Schools Need Protection: Guns, Training For Teachers may be the answer”, published in a 2008 edition of the Chicago Tribune, David McGrath argues that some teachers should be allowed to carry a concealed weapon for protection. First, McGrath states that if a random psychotic gunman were searching for someplace to attack, his classroom would make an easy target. He feels that if he was trained and armed, his class would not be trapped without a chance of survival because he would be able to defend against the gunman. Sec...
School shootings are still happening and we have to put a stop to it. We need to have these teachers prepared and ready to fight. Students to deserve to have their lives out to rest knowing something could have been done that’s why we need to have these teachers armed. This is a cold world if someone enters a school with a weapon teachers need to have their weapon ready too for the sack of their children. A school is a fun place to learn but to also keep safe. This is why teachers should be armed.
For many years, America has witnessed mass shootings within it’s borders. In 2015 alone, there were 372 mass shootings (Oldham). The question most Americans are faced with is: do we need more gun control or is gun control the problem? With more gun control, it can be made mandatory that protective devices are used on firearms to prevent accidental harm. Gun control creates mandatory laws such as the requirement for an individual to pass a background check before he/she is permitted to purchase a firearm. Gun control has also been proven to prevent suicides due to the increased difficulty of obtaining a firearm. Those who believe that gun control is the problem claim that by removing one 's firearms, you are endangering them to threats that
Although most security measures passively make schools safer, it is not nearly enough to prevent an individual who intends on creating mass violence from completing his or her task. State representatives, national organizations, school staff, and parents need to come together to figure out the most reliable ways to prevent an active shooter situation from occurring in their schools. One solution that has been active is many schools have partnered with local law enforcement agencies to provide a police officers to patrol school grounds....
Allowing teachers to carry guns could help lower school shootings. “While some believe tighter gun controls are the answer, others believe the best solution comes in giving more people — like teachers and administrators — more training and more access to firearms that can save lives as well as take them away” (Evensen guns and teachers). “Our organization
Regulation of guns is a necessary action that needs to be taken in order to
There have been 175 school shootings in the United States since 2013 (175 School Shootings). Mass school shootings have become an immense problem in America in the past few decades. Unfortunately, there are hundreds of cases of school shootings and this is becoming a problem in society and a problem for school children and staff. There are too many people who are able to map out a plan and shoot innocent school children. Too many lives are being taken due to school shooters and America as a whole needs to come up with a plan to stop such crimes. The problem with school shootings will never be fully eradicated, however, there are measures we can take to prevent these actions by creating stricter gun laws, becoming more aware of unusual behavior, and providing better security in schools.
Gun control is a hot issue in the wake of so many recent, tragic mass shootings. So, what is gun control? Gun control which is also known as firearms regulations refers to laws or policies that regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession, modification, or use of firearms. Some people would argue that gun control is generally a widespread of gun ownership that increases the danger of gun violence while others would argue that gun control does not increase the crime rate as far as gun violence; however it does violate individual liberties. Gun control is the heart of the Second Amendment of the Constitution of the United States. The Second Amendment of the Constitution states that citizens have the right to possess and bear arms.
Obama said, “ More than 900 of our fellow Americans have reportedly died at the end of a gun --- 900 in the past month.” This is a scary number. Using these kinds of statements makes his argument stronger and also makes it seem more logical if they make it harder for people to get guns. Obama said, “ Licensed gun dealers to run background checks, and over the last 14 years that’s kept 1.5 million of the wrong people from getting their hands on a gun.” He showed that we are making progress. This would make people feel more confident that this method would work. He also added “But it’s hard to enforce that law, when as many as 40% of all gun purchases are conducted without a background check.” In here I think Obama suggests that some people with mental disorders and crooks with criminal records or are ineligible to obtain a gun due to psychological disorders. A lot of Americans agreed with Obama on the universal background check. Obama stated, “An overwhelming majority of Americans agree with us on the need for universal background checks, including more than 70% of the National Rifle Association‘s members according to one survey. So there’s no reason we can’t do this.” This is really interesting as owners of the National Rifle Association are the main reason why these laws are hard to pass. They have sponsored most Congress members when they were just elected Congress members. But the members of that
After June 2, 2015, students are allowed to carry guns on college campuses in the state of Texas for the safety of the person. Guns on campuses are not necessary to protect oneself. Safety is important in a public location; however, guns are too dangerous when placed in the wrong hands. Student safety is all the more reason not to allow guns on college campuses. Granted, guns are a great weapon for self defense or for the secure feeling of having a gun on our person; however, the people who conceal guns are more susceptible to take their own lives as well as dozens around them.
