Persuasive Essay: Why Teachers Should Give Less Homework

Every day kids are given things they should finish at school and If they don’t finish its homework or teachers give out homework that is only for home, but students sit there doing nothing. But they’re some problems that don’t make sense. Why should kids learn about how to build a trebuchet, why should students read a book then take a test on it then forget about it, why should we be learning about math formulas that don’t apply in real life situations when are people in generally gonna use the quadratic formula to help in real life problems.
Why are teachers giving kids homework that’s not gonna help them in any way like graphing points on a line because teachers tell students to do that, if they’re not gonna check it and if students don’t

do it their future is in jeopardy. Why schools should lessen homework and lessons, one it puts a lot of stress on students and they have to stay up all night finishing their homework, two students are learning subjects that is unless in everyday life situations and spend less time on more important things, and three it affects their health. Because they have to stay up all night and get none sleep then they go to school not paying attention because they’re tired, then fail on assignments and then they fail on tests which affect their grades which then affects what kind of job they’re gonna have in the future.
Homework has put a lot of stress on students which is why teachers should lessen homework and give out homework that is worth the time to do it. studies show that “56 percent of the students considered homework a primary source of stress, according to the survey data. Forty-three percent viewed tests as a primary stressor while 33 percent put the pressure to get good grades in that category. Less than one percent of the students said homework was not a stressor”. Studies show that lots of students are having many health problems due to homework. From asking students on school campus studies show that they are more like to drop out of extracurricular activities, spend less time with family members and learn things that don’t apply to real life situations. Both the survey data and student responses indicate that spending too much time on homework meant that students were "not meeting their developmental needs or cultivating other critical life skills," according to the researchers. Students were more likely to drop activities, not see friends or family, and not pursue hobbies they enjoy. Many students said their homework load led to sleep deprivation and other health problems. The researchers asked students whether they experienced health issues such as headaches, exhaustion, sleep deprivation, weight loss and stomach problems”(" Stanford Research Shows Pitfalls of Homework").
From a teacher’s perspective, they think they’re just doing what’s right for their students and they don’t care if their student didn’t get any sleep or have a lot of stress from the homework they give to their students.

They’re some benefits to giving less homework to students they have less grading to do and less work to do plus they have more time to spend with their family. Teachers give out homework that isn’t worth the time to finish it and they’re wasting paper that is just gonna get thrown away by the student or the teachers by themselves because they just look at it then throw it away what is the point of giving it then. Teachers don’t know how much stress they’re giving a teenager because when students go to school they look happy but in the inside they’re sleep deprived, have stress and family issues and other problems that are causing them to be sad and on top of that they homework that isn’t gonna help them in their future career and real life situations. “More work doesn’t necessarily mean more learning”. “Sometimes teachers assign homework because they feel like it’s the studious thing to do. All homework does it put more stress and problems on both the teacher and the student. If schools lessen homework then we wouldn’t have this problem and Schools should lessen homework because number one it causes a lot of stress on the student if they don’t finish it, number two students are given homework on unimportant subjects wasting their time on it and having less time to do more important things and number three a lot of homework can cause health problems like too much caffeine and sleep deprivation. Researchers did a study where student were given a new lesson and they had to learn but studies show that just because they’re learning a new lesson doesn’t mean they’re actually learning. Some student just do the homework and find out they wasted hours on it just to get all of it wrong and not understand it then in a week or two they are given a test which they’re gonna fail because they didn’t understand the lesson. All of these reasons are very accurate reasons why schools should lessen homework and it also benefits for the teachers too so why schools should lessen homework.
