Children have to have rules and obey the rules in the classroom. It is very effective if the children have rules and understand that there are consequences for their action when it comes to bullying. Bullying and violence do not just come to a classroom or community it has probably been on that person mind since a while because they are mentally ill or had a run in with the law or just do not have anyone to turn too in their state of mind. Students are told not to bully, not to say mean words, and not to hurt others. It only focuses on the negative side of the problem. “Empathy clearly plays a tremendous role in an effective anti-bullying program” (Jones and Augustine, 2015). Kids aren’t being taught compassion, tolerance, and empathy thought these programs. The only thing that these students are being taught is what a bully is and everything they should not do. Clearly, tolerance is not being built amongst students. This is a trait that students learn as small children. It is hard to change the viewpoint of a child once their viewpoint has been taught, whether it be good or bad, they develope those thoughts about certain topics. Once tolerance and acceptance is established and taught bullying and harassment in secondary schools will significantly drop.
Bullying incidents need to be monitored and stopped when they are happening. Schools need to do more to prevent bullying issues and stop them for good. Most children are too afraid to say anything to
Imagine coming home from school, you are already upset from getting bullied and then your phone starts beeping. It repeatedly keeps alerting you and it fills up with hateful messages and threats. This is the life of a child who is bullied and harassed, this happens to them constantly until they eventually implode. Adults think of bullying as kids being kids and being a part of life; but, no child should go through the pain and torture of that. Bullying happens across the world, with no cure to it, it 's a plague that needs to stop. Children from the UK, France, and many other countries are subjected to this. In the United States, many cases have been dealt with which involves pre-teens and teens committed
By monitoring where bullying occurs and making sure that they are safe for a student can be extremely helpful. Lawner and Terzian identify that bullying happens where adults aren 't watching and call these places “hotspots”. They say “Research suggests that much bullying behavior occurs in “hotspots”— areas with low levels of adult supervision, such as a playground, bus, or cafeteria.” This only proves that bullying happens everyday usually at the same area, yet no one is there to see or help. Adding supervision by placing adults in areas like this would decrease the issue in that children are being watched causing the victim to feel safe and the bully intimidated. Since bullying is being turned to online, administrators should have the right with permission from the victim to see what the bully is posting on there page. Bullies usually have more than one victim and administrators being able to access the bullies internet pages so that they could identify more easily who they are attacking. Although I stress the importance of supervision, it is important to also make children feel a sense of freedom and by adding too much supervision school can quickly turn into a prison style monitoring
...of rule-setting against bullying should be implemented not only on an individual level, but on a classroom and school-level as well. "The school," says Dan Olweus, "has a responsibility to stop bullying behavior and create a safe learning environment for all students." He suggests a curriculum that constantly monitors abusive behavior, promotes kindness, acceptance of differences and educates teachers, school staff, parents and children alike about bullying and response strategies.
Why do people bully? Some people bully because they are afraid. When people are afraid of something or someone, they decide to bully. People choose to bully, because they think it make them cool. They think if they bully people, others would want to be like them. They believe it would help them fit in with the people around. They think it would help them be like someone who everyone else look up too. They want their friends to see how bad they are or how bad they try to be. Bullies are not as bad as most people think they are. Some people bully only on small people. You don’t see to many bullies bullying on each other. Even bullies are afraid of each other. The bully think since they are bigger than another person, they have more power. Some people even bully others because they may be getting bullied somewhere else. They may come to school and bully someone else to get their mind off of what some else are doing to them.
Time and technology has changed over the years; bullying have evolved with the changing technology as well. The one thing that hasn’t changed is the parents that defend their children by making excuses or not acknowledging the bad behavior. Another thing that has not changed is the fact that sometimes we ignore when our child is suffering from the abuse of their peers. We as parents we all envision our children to be able to defend themselves. Unfortunately, because we are all different human being some children do not know how to let go. Some children do not realize that it will not be the end of the world. Right in that moment it is their world that’s all they know. So, communication and quality time is a big factor in a lot of the behaviors of not only the kids being bullied but the kids doing the bullying as well.
28% of U.S. students in 6-12 grade have been bullied. 30% admit have have done the bullying. 70.6% of students say they have seen bullying in their school. 70.4% of school staff have seen bullying and 62% witnessed bullying two or more times in the last month and 41% witness bullying once a week or more. That is disheartening that teachers would look away or ignore someone who is getting bullied and is in needed of help. Bullying can really affect students and how they look at themselves and what they think of themselves. If we as adults and teachers don 't help our students out in a time of need they aren 't going to trust us. Some things we should do to make school a more safer place for students is we should have teachers monitoring the hallways between passing time. Be more assertive when punishing a student for bullying. Furthermore we should always be on the lookout for bullying and if we see it happening stop as soon as possible.
Bullying is a repeated harmful act that continues to affect millions of students every year. There is no stereotypical person that is a target for bullying; anyone can be its victim. There may not always be any signs of physical harm during these attacks, but our children always suffer emotional harm. Educating students, teachers and parents seems to be the only valid solution to this problem. There are many organizations that can educate the schools on this subject but for it to work people must care. Maybe one day, when enough people realize that this problem will not go away with out their help, we can eliminate bullying from our schools. In a perfect world there would be no bullying, but if you could ask Rachel Scott she would tell you we do not live in a perfect world, only a hopeful one.
Although bullying continues to be an issue in our society, but mainly in schools, all we can do is keep educating kids on what is right and wrong, letting them know the consequences of their actions both to its victim and to themselves. Also, parents can be more enlightened on how to raise their kids in healthier way so that they do not grow up seeking for attention or power in the wrong ways.
Bullying against teens is still happening even though there are various awareness programs to try to prevent it. I want to create awareness of bullying against teens of all religions, race, and sexual orientation. Even with the various attention to bullying, the problem still persists despite the school providing awareness, students are still afraid to say anything. These laws consisted of a clear definition of bullying, and how schools will be required to enforce uniform standards of conduct. The reason bullying comes as such an issue to me is because I actually know friends that have been suicidal and have caused themselves harm due to being bullied every day, in school and at home.
