So, instead of getting emotional, accept facts and then look for the opportunity. While this may seem cold sometimes, it is a really great tip on turning negative into positive when you have the chance. For example, a family member went into the hospital around Christmas one year. This was already a very busy time for me, but obviously I wanted to be there for her in the hospital as well. I decided to take stay closer to the hospital so that I could easily get to her and do work at the same time. It worked out better than I imagined. I got to spend daily time with the family and help her to feel cared for and supported, and I got more done at the hotel than I ever did at home! 6. Take Control Of Your Life When you take control of your life, you become aware that everything you do makes an impact - good or bad. …show more content…
Don 't allow it to take control of you. 7. Be An Influence A lot of people are stuck in the negative right now because they feel alone, can 't see how to get out, and don 't have the tools to get out. They are just reliving their negative thoughts and perception over and over again, and they need someone to be an influence for them so that they can get the courage to start developing more positive thoughts and a better perception. When something negative happens in your life, you have a great opportunity to be a leader and teach other people. For instance, if you gain 250 pounds and feel like crap, you have an opportunity to get out there and help other people who feel the same as you understand that they are not alone and then build a sense of community to work on being positive and being healthier. When you start to release your story to other people, the healing in yourself starts. When people relate to your story and get to release their own story, the healing starts in them too. If they influence other people, then this can have a viral effect and one common negative situation can be healed through many
Now that I’ve gotten older, I’ve seen the importance of positivity. By changing my negative thoughts, it made me happier and my attitude got so much better. This also makes people around you feel better and more confident in what you do.

The narrative piece, How full is your bucket, positive strategies for work and life, written by Tom Rath and his grandfather Donald Clifton, outlines a unique description of the impact of how sharing positive interactions with others (socially, intimately, in the work environment, and strangers) ensures a more fulfilling life. This book brings to light how negativity impacts your own life and the lives of individuals surrounding you. An interesting concept that was studied during the Korean War, the American captives were denies positive social interactions, and were denied support from loved ones (Rath & Clifton, 2009, p. 25). The soldiers were ultimately swayed to have a negative outlook and hopeless existence which unfortunately led to their demise. Negativity spreads to others like wildfire and takes away from your
In 2008, there were more than 1,977,000 deaths that were caused by preventable risk factors. The top 3 causes of death in the United States are diseases of the heart, malignant neoplasms (cancer), and chronic lower respiratory diseases. All these diseases are preventable. People need to start paying more attention to what they’re eating, exercising more, giving up unhealthy behaviors and taking care of our mental health.
“The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him” (G.K. Chesterton). A soldier is a soldier no matter what. If they fight behind a screen, on the front line, or from a controller as long as they’re protecting this country, the people in it, and the people fighting for it they are honorable. Some think that because one does their fighting from a remote control drone means that they have no understanding of war, and in some ways that is true, but they are still taking someone’s life when they choose to press that button just like the solders on the front line takes someone’s life when they pull the trigger. Both people are fighting the same fight: they love the country they are defending the people in it they just do it from different standpoints. Drones
Over the years, the cost of college tuition has been one of the central issues limiting students, like me, from obtaining the best education that one could receive. Usually, this results in students settling for a school nearby rather than being able to have the choice to go to the best one in which they were accepted into, due to such skyrocket prices. Much of this problem or concern has to do with out-of-state tuition being much higher than in-state tuition, sometimes almost doubling the price of in-state tuition! Therefore, students are more pressured to remain in state rather than go to out-of-state schools that may offer a better education.
Although too much positivity can lead to naiveté, I still believe in the power of optimism. After a long day, nothing beats the feeling knowing that you made someone else smile and believe, if for just a second, the world is a wonderful place. Being positive is a choice. And contrary to popular belief, it’s not always easy. There are times that you may want to give up or just be content with being negative. But, you must pick yourself back up and remember that tomorrow is another day, and every day is an opportunity to make your situation better. As Richard M. DeVos said, “Few things in the world are more powerful than a positive push. A smile. A world of optimism and hope. A 'you can do it' when things are tough.” This is an idea that I try to live by every day; my state of eternal optimism.
It is eleven o’clock at night, and Tom is finally done typing the essay that is due for his English 2 class tomorrow morning. As he takes a deep breath, slowly releasing the tension in his shoulders, and he tells himself, “I can now scroll through Instagram in peace!” After hours of posting and liking pictures on Instagram, from the corner of his eye he glimpses the current time, and quickly springs out of bed. It is now four o’clock in the morning, and he has exactly three hours to get sleep. This occurs every day, it is nothing new for Tom. He now witnesses sleep deprivation as being the root of his high blood pressure. As reported by the National Sleep Foundation, “the average adult needs seven
Healthy living is a term that in itself is hypocritical. In order to live, one must die, which in my opinion is very unhealthy. No matter what a person does they can not escape dying at the end of their life. That is why healthy living does not simply mean avoiding soda, or exercising for hours on end; it means to enjoy one’s life in all that one does, not sacrificing too much to the vices of this world, but also enjoying this world while one is living. Nothing is truly healthy in this world; today’s superfood is tomorrow’s carcinogen, but to live the healthiest life possible one needs balance of their lifestyle.
Since the dawn of humanity, exercise has been crucial for physical survival. In recent times, however, exercise is losing its significance to human survival. Some would argue that it already has lost its significance, and as exercise becomes less important, people exercise less. According to fitness.gov, only 33% of adults receive the recommended amount of physical activity each week (citation). Clearly there is a problem. However, there is still a fraction of the population that exercises diligently. Why do these people stick with it? Exercise has countless advantages that are still extremely important to our lives. So even though the need of exercise may appear to be diminishing, the practical effects should be enough to encourage people
I am sure you are like everyone else out there and you want to achieve meaning in your life. There are unfortunately no short cuts to success or to invite meaning and fulfillment, into your experience. They are all the result of self-discipline and consistent commitment. Of course the moment you start down your journey towards the success you have visualized, you will start to enjoy the fruits of your endeavors. The challenge is to remain focused, patient and driven enough to stay on the path you have chosen. This is where discipline comes into it.
Life is like a wild car chase. You either have to jump out of the building or get caught by the evil and vile monsters. When you picture something like this happening you probably think about an awesome action movie that you have watched. Sometimes life is like an action movie, but if you don’t take risks, then something bad or depressing will swallow you whole. If you never try anything fun or exciting, your life will be nothing but a hole of desolation. It is better to take risks and make mistakes than to never risk anything at all because if you never took risks you would always regret missed opportunities, never accomplish your goals, and overlook large rewards.
Many people go about living their lives without thinking about anything other than what they need to do. They focus on their life and not so much on other people or things that don’t concern them. Many things go on in the world that people should be made aware of, even if it might not directly affect them. A great deal of negative things happen in the world. Some of the things a single person can’t handle by themselves, but little things can be done to help better the planet.
Mental disorders are rapidly becoming more common with each new generation born in the world. Currently, nearly one in two people suffer from some form of depression, anxiety, or other mental health problem at some point in their lives (Editor). With so many people suffering from their mental illnesses, steps have been taken in order to get help needed for these people but progress has been slow. In the medical world, hospitals are treating those with physical problems with more care than those with mental problems. Prescription drugs can only do so much helping the mentally ill go through their daily lives and more should be done to help those who need more than medicine to cope with their illness. Mental health should be considered just as important as physical health because of how advanced physical healing is, how the public reacts to those with mental illness, and due to the consequences that could happen if the illness is not correctly helped.
A healthy lifestyle is usually picked up as we get older. However, think of how much more beneficial it would be for our bodies when we get older, if we would have learned and adapted to a healthier lifestyle when we were younger? Teaching your kids how important a healthy diet is, will help them maintain that lifestyle in their older years. Not to mention have lower health risks, higher self-esteem and it will give them the energy they need to keep up with their eating habits and maintain their body weight.
