According to Bridges4kidz, each year, 1,500 students are expelled from Michigan schools. Many kids are kicked out of school for misbehaving in school, some are even kicked out for not having good grades. Should people really kick students out of school and jeopardize them getting an education? There was this kid name James Johnson, who was an eighth grader at the time, his mom was a single mother and was barely around because she worked a lot. He caused so much trouble for his teachers, and having trouble passing his classes. Now he is 19 years old with a seventh grader education, he is a father that cannot provide for his son, and he has also spent time in jail and can’t find a job. Kicking students out of school puts them in more danger and turns them into kids that destroy the community. A school is defined as an “institution for teaching and learning”. Instead of kicking violent kids out of schools, kids should get help from the teachers and the counselors so they can get taught to do the right thing and learn that being violent isn't going to get them anywhere in life. As a teacher you should want to help the students, instead of them going out into the real world and killing themselves or going to jail. Everyone deserves help if they need it, especially if they are a child. Some kids are violent because they grew up in a home seeing violence all the time. They never wanted to be this way but they grew up getting beat on by their parents or saw their parents beat on each other. They deserve help, people shouldn't just give up on violent kids. The article "Let`s Really Reform Our Schools" by Anita Garland discuss the trouble faced by American High Schools. According to her, students are more concerned about their looks than learning, and this results in poor academic performance. She states that there is a need for American High Schools to be completely restructured. The worst students must be kicked out of the schools because they are troublemakers, and they distract others, which includes their fellow students, teachers, and administrators. Troublemakers lack fear of suspension from school, and suspension from school doesn’t improve their behavior. Troublemakers do not care about punishments at all. Some students in School had big issues, like Doug Hann. Hann was a student from Brown University, and varsity football player at the University. He was living in the dorms at the University. He was expelled from the university for doing bulling to the black people. We live in a society where more and more rights have been given to juveniles which have also back fired on us. In days past schools could hand out discipline as well as parents, which in turn could put an end to minor behaviors, where now they are often allowed to advance into things worse, where school administrators see no other choice but to suspend and expel (Wison, 2014). Many individuals have been affected negatively by trouble makers in school. Troublemakers have either disrupted classes or bullied other students. Yes, trouble makers may harm one’s learning environment, but should they be kicked out of school? Though many individuals argue that troublemakers will not change and hold the class down, they should not be kicked out because they need help. Most of these kids that are disobedient do not know the distinction between right and wrong. We should not withdraw trouble makers from school, rather, we should help these troublemakers and teach them right from wrong. One reason is there are several stereotypes: sexual/physical abuse, hereditary factors and exposure to violence at home. Second reason that leads to violent behavior is physical neglect by parents. Third reason is juveniles was incarcerated for acts of violence such as: fighting peers or their parents, hitting teachers or instructors, bringing weapon to school to scare his peers and etc. All these come from mistreatment to their children when they was younger. When that happen all children start going crazy and not listening to their parent or anyone that been in their shoes before they was born to even see this happen.
Students’ rights in schools are limited or just taken away. Kids are forced to do whatever the officials at their school, either the principal or the teachers, tell the students to do. With lack of supervision, children experiment with these dangerous weapons, and may even take them out of their homes. Another contributing factor to violent acts among children is the role of the media and the way that television and movies portray violence. Every where you turn on television and in movies, you see someone killing someone or someone getting killed. Kids see the brutal ways, or the quick and smart schemes of combat tactics. They falsely believe that these types of behaviors are acceptable, because the next week they are back on the show demonstrating another episode of violent acts, with no consequences.
Some children who have violent tempers acquire them through their parents. Could this be a motive for these children to go out a killing sprees? But then again the question of whether or not the child is being abused is brought into prospective. Some say if a child is beat or abused in any other way, that would be a incentive for them to be violent. But is this rational? Most children who have had encounters with violence are usually white, intelligent, middle class and heterosexual. Sounds like a pretty normal child doesn’t it? But what reason could be behind this for such a typical child to react in such a hurtful way? Some would say because of the parents. Put the blame on the parents.
There are many factors that lead people to use violence. They use violence when they are stressed, angry, feeling hatred, drink too much alcohol, use drug. Children are more likely to grow up as violent men if they are influenced by their parents, brothers, sisters and friends, all of whom use violence.
These kids don’t misbehave in the classroom for no reason. They are probably releasing those emotions that are bottled up from them at home in school. Not coming from a stable background can have quite the effect on trying to learn in a classroom. The problems that need to be fixed are trying to make schools feel more like a “safe haven” rather than a prison. Afterschool programs need to be put into place, to allow kids to stay at school for long so they don’t get involved in street life, or so they can just not have to deal with the outside problems of the world for a little bit longer. Also, school need to change. They need to try and make learning more fun, and more integrated with the children they are teaching. An easy an example of this is teaching these kids about their history, so they have many people to look up to besides just Martin Luther King Jr. or Rosa Parks. Only teaching black and Latino kids about people that don’t even look like them or go through anything they have gone through, makes them bored and uneager to learn. Also, more rewards in to be into place to make kids feel more welcomed and wanting to do good in class. Even though it may seem out of the ordinary for some, suspension needs to stop.
