Contrary to popular belief the space zoos provide for the animals is not adequate for optimum health. Since zoos do not have sufficient

As a kid, I had always looked forward to days at the zoo. I was, however, far more interested in the jungle-themed surroundings than the educational parts. I was told that zoos protected animals and took good care of them. Now I'm not too sure that's the truth. Animals like tigers, lions, and elephants are born to live and grow up in the wild. They aren't meant to live inside of a cage in a zoo. Not only that, but the animals' health isn't as good as you'd expect. Although lots time and money has been spent on zoos, animals are still suffering. Zoos are fun and exciting for kids and tourists, however, the animals aren't enjoying it as much as us.
The topic of rather zoos are made to educate the people or if they are simply just animal cruelty. Zoos contain many animals. From, elephants, lions, tigers, dolphins, otters, giraffes, chimpanzees and gorillas. These animals are accustomed to living in their natural habitat which is with no cages and are free to roam as they please. Zoos are miserable places for animals, according to CAPS an undercover investigator filmed sick animals left untreated and dead animals to rot on floors at Tweedle Farm Zoo. Zoos are overcrowded and there was no provision for individual feeding or sleeping areas. Some lions exhibit skin wounds and multiple scars of various age, some fresh, some healed. Another reason why Zoos should be illegal is simply because zoos cannot provide the amount of space animals would have in the wild. Lions and Tigers have around 18,000 times less space in zoos than they would in the wild. Polar bears have one million times less space. (10 Facts About Zoos). 54% of elephants are showing stereotypies (behavioral problems) during the daytime. One elephant observed during day ...
Even though some zoos have an endangered species exhibit with the intention of protecting and rehabilitating animals, many do not do an adequate job of protecting the animals. Zoos have been harmful to the very animals they have sworn to protect. Animals in captivity often suffer from anxiety, boredom and other severe issue related to prolonged confinement. Most animals are unable to thrive in small enclosure with unnatural weather and climates. For example elephants are known to walk as far as 30 miles per day, but the association of Zoos and aquariums only require a space the measures $0 feet by 45 feet, which is about the size of a three car garage, to house these large animals. (peta.org) the drastic difference in the amount of space their allowed ...
Yet saving the animals does not seem to happen. Yet some animals from larger zoos do not provide for their animals, like the story of Twiggs and Jeffrey, “... two giraffes born at the Cape May County Zoo in New Jersey, were sold by the zoo to a broker who subsequently sold them to a traveling circus. The director... actually admitted to seeing the animals’ pitiful living conditions...”(Zoos). This shows that animals taken in to circuses and smaller zoos can still be mistreated and harmed. This is why American Zoo and Aquarium Association members do not sell animals to smaller zoos any more.
Millions of people visit zoos every year, not knowing that they can be very inhumane to most animals. Zoos may be a very good tourist attraction and a good field trip, that could be very educational if it is a good zoo, but they should not be allowed to carry all of the animals it does. With zoos carrying many different types of animals only certains should be held in the zoo. Only animals that are about to be extinct should be in the zoos. Since there are very few of an animal that is about to go extinct, it would be a very safe option to have them kept there.
Does a zoo offer the proper and necessary environment for the animals’ basic needs? Most people think that the zoos are doing the captivity animals a favor with the concept that the zoos are trying to save endangered species. Zoos suggest that by bringing those captivity animals back to the zoos environment can bring animal advantage such as being safer and health care benefits. Each individual can have a different opinions and perceptive on this argument subject, but many might disagree with the concept that animals are born to have the survival skill to protect themselves. Every single day, animals are being held captive and have no freedom, and those animals might be tortured without people knowing about it. Many people should make a statement and protest against this controversial issue. Even the zoos,
Think back to your first time at the zoo with you family, you got to see all the birds, the tigers, the lions, the bears. It was a nice memory, but what if that zoo never existed? And those awesome lions you got to see? They went extinct because no habitats were built to repopulate. That’s what groups like PETA are proposing, they believe that animals will all survive if they are left in their natural habitats.
Do you remember going to the zoo as a child and seeing the animals sunbathing, nursing young, or playing with each other? Do you remember reading signs with fun facts about the animals? Do you also remember leaving the zoo knowing more than you did before you went? That’s what zoos do, but that’s not all they do. Not only do zoos find creative and fun ways to educate children, but they also save many animals that would not have lived without help.
According to the article “How Zoos Are Distorting Our View of the Natural World,” animals in captivity form harmful behaviors such as, pacing, bar biting, head bobbing, neck twisting, regurgitation, and self-mutilation. This is only some of the harmful behavior that animals can and sometimes will appear to have. Studies have shown that keeping animals in the zoo, does not have a positive impact on their life. Meaning that animals would have a improved life outside of the zoo. Animals are made to reproduce on their own time and schedule, but zoo will sometimes use unnatural methods to breed the animals.

Yes, from human perspective it seems very enthralling. But what about the animals actually inside these enclosures?
Would you be willing to risk your fun and enjoyment for an animal’s happiness? Everytime families go to the zoo and give them money, they are making an animal suffer. The more money zoos get, the more animals are taken. Animals are depressed every day because they are being deprived of their rights; their right to be free.
