Zoos are a place where people of any age can go and see animals from all over the world right in their own city. They are quite controversial as many people think that zoos are just a collection of animals used for entertainment and selfish profit, but in the 21st century, they’re much more than that. Animal rights activists have even pushed for the abolishment of zoos, arguing that they abuse animals and deny them of what they have out in the wild. This may have been true years ago when animal attractions first became popular, as many large animals were locked in small cages and used solely for people’s entertainment, but zoos have evolved and become more important to the well-being of animals than ever before. Zoos should not be banned because they’re a resource for public education about animals, a resource for scientific research, and they protect and rehabilitate endangered species. …show more content…

Zoos give young children the opportunity to take learning about animals beyond the classroom. They can see up close how animals from every part of the world eat, jump, run, play, and interact with other animals, which is all extremely fascinating for young children. This up-close experience also gives them a deeper understanding of what they’re learning in school. Not only is this education available to children, but to anyone who is curious and wants to know more about wild animals. This education is important because more people can become interested in helping and protecting animals.
