Dogs are great! Not only do dogs make terrific pets, but for many owners, they are a friend, too. To be honest, we could go on and on about all the reasons why people should get a dog, however, you have likely already heard many of the reasons why bringing home a furry, four-legged companion is a good idea. But, even with all these wonderful reasons and benefits of getting a dog, are you ready for the responsibility and commitment needed to care for a new dog? Have you done an appropriate amount of research? Do you know what dog is best for you? If these questions overwhelmed you, it is only just the beginning. The truth is, dogs are not for everyone, and that is okay!
If you have been considering adopting a dog — whether a pup or a fully-grown

Too often people will adopt cute or popular breeds, only to eventually drop them off at the shelter when they become too needy, too hyper, too intolerant — the list goes on. Determine what breeds or breed mixes you are interested in and be open to changing your mind if one or more of the selected breeds doesn’t fit your lifestyle or ability to provide for its temperament. It is important to ask plenty of questions from the people putting the dog up for adoption, and it wouldn’t hurt to ask owners of the same breed questions about their dog and their experience. A great example of this is a Siberian Husky. With much attention brought to this extraordinary breed by their featuring in a hit American drama series, many people made the choice to go out adopt the breed of dogs, Sure, huskies are adorable, fluffy, and great companions, however, huskies have certain needs in order to be healthy and happy, like plenty of exercise. For reasons like this example is why doing your research and picking a dog is so …show more content…
While purebred dogs are great friends and companions, they are commonly known to be sold in pet stores that get their dogs from inhumane puppy mills. Dogs that come from these environments are more susceptible to genetic health issues and extensive socialize requirements. If you are set on a purebred dog, it may be in your best interest to find a reputable and responsible breeder or a breed-specific shelter in your area. Reputable breeders will have health certifications, will keep puppies with their mother before eight weeks of age, or until whenever necessary, and will require a contract to be signed before the dog is
Year after year people buy puppies from big breeders. Have you ever wondered where that puppy grew up? What kind of conditions the puppy lived in? Most puppies that someone would buy from a pet store are raised in puppy mills. Puppy mills are well-known for their “inhumane conditions” and the endless breeding of “unhealthy and genetically defective” dogs only for income. People should adopt rather than buy from a pet store or breeder. By adopting from a shelter, one could give a dog a second chance at a happy life.
...lacing dogs in lasting homes. By evaluating the dog's personality and thoroughly screening the potential owners, rescue groups have become proficient at matching the right dog to the right person.” In this ways, people can easily find the purebred dogs that best fit their family.
People of different ages, young and old, will love having a dog or a pup around. They even treat them as their best friend. Nevertheless, you must also think of the possible consequences that come with owning one. Effective Dog Training is necessary for your dog and you should understand you have to make an effort to socialize your dog. You have to expose your dog to the outside world, so that it will not intimidate other people.
Take a moment and picture a dog in your head. What do you see? You may see many different things depending on your own personal encounters with the species. There are many types of dogs out there. Some small, some large, long-haired or short-haired. There are many variances in what a dog can look like. One thing that does not change, or should not change, is the importance for every dog in this world to be given love and affection, no matter its characteristics. This is what leads me to believe that the obsession with producing and owning purebreds needs to come to a halt. Continuing to create these so-called “best dogs” is dangerous to not only the purebred’s health, but also devalues mixed breeds and can cost them their lives in animal shelters where they may never escape. My interest in this topic caused me to look into seeing what other people felt about it.
Throughout the world there are many different countries that contain diverse cultures, religions, and life styles. There is however certain aspects within these countries and cultures that acts as a common ground between one another. One dominant aspect is the existence of dogs within these cultures. Dogs are common throughout the world, either as a domestic pet, a protector on a farm, or an assistant for hunting; amongst others. Regardless of the reason for having a dog most people have either owned one for themselves or has known somebody who has owned one at some point in their life. Despite the relative normality of having a dog in your life in one way or another, the reasons for dogs coming into existence is not common knowledge among most people. Throughout a great portion of mankind’s history dogs have been an essential part of life. The truth is dogs were actually created in part by man. It was evolution from wolves in the form of natural and artificial selection that brought dogs into existence (Harris 3). This is the most modern and widely excepted theory at this time, however this was not always the case considering the theory of evolution in of itself is relatively new in our society. After evolution as a theory was accepted there were several other variations on the theory such as, the evolution being from jackals opposed to wolves, and artificial selection being the only form of evolution to have taken place. According to Jarret A Lobell and Eric A Powell of Archaeology magazine “The idea that dogs were domesticated from jackals was long ago discarded in favor of the notion that dogs descend from the gray wolf (2)”. As for the theory that artificial selection ...
Having a dog can be a great experience for people who enjoy their company. These animals are usually friendly and active; they are intelligent and can develop a strong relationship with their owners based on love and care. However, having dogs is a big responsibility for the person who owns them, because they are animals, so they cannot support themselves. Dogs need someone who can feed them, give them love, and someone who can help them exercise. Moreover, these animals need big spaces in order to run and develop their muscles, so the owner has to know that he needs to take a walk with the dog several times a day.
There are many breeds of dogs to choose from some of the most common are golden retriever, German shepherd, and Labrador retriever. Many people can pick almost any breed they are looking for though. The common breeds I pointed out are used because of their intelligence, willingness to work, and their mobility. The dogs that help are really filling a hole that these people have.
If one wants to live a more responsible, more active, and a healthier life style they should get a dog. Obtaining the previously mentioned qualities are great but gaining a best friend is even better. Dogs are intelligent animals and their personalities are one of a kind. With training, love, and patience any dog can become a great addition to one’s family. Adoption from an animal shelter is a great way to get a dog although there are adoption fees most of the money is being used to vaccinate the dog before its taken to its forever home. Buying a dog from a reputable breeder is another option as how one gets a dog. Reputable breeders usually guarantee a puppy’s health. One might have to go through a few more hoops to be able to buy a dog from
Main Point: People are responsible for creating the problem with certain breeds as well as the social stigmas placed against them.
Most homeowners normally have pets at home. You will realize that these pets normally provide companionship to their owners. Dogs are magnificent creatures, and when raised correctly, are adorable, loyal, loving animals. However it takes a lot of time, energy, and commitment to make sure that dogs are raised correctly. These animals have a lot of the same requirements that a human child needs. They also act as a child would. A new dog owner would do well to consider these points before they take on the responsibility of raising one of these incredible creatures.
A few years ago my husband Ryan and I decided to get a dog. For several weeks we made trips to the Regina Humane Society, waiting to find the perfect dog for us. We never even entertained the idea of buying a pure bred. I didn't want to buy a pet from someone who breeds dogs for profit when there are so many homeless dogs in need of a second chance.
Owning a Pet Having a pet is a wonderful idea! Pets bring companionship, personality, and gut wrenching humor to households across the world. Having previously owned both a cat and a dog, and currently being without a pet, I began to think about getting a new furry friend. Born a dog lover, and bred into a cat lover, I had the difficult decision of choosing one of the two. When I was twenty-two years old, I answered an advertisement in the paper for free Labrador puppies.
No dog is the same in the way that each breed has a different personality, color, shape, and size. When looking at these qualities and trying to determine the greatest dog breed of all time, being well rounded in each of the listed criteria should be a top priority. With this in mind, there is one breed that stands out among all the others with its strength in each category. There is no surprise that the Labrador Retriever would be at the top of the list being that they are the most popular family pet in the USA, UK, and many other parts of the world. It should also be pointed out that they wouldn’t be the most popular dog breed without valid reasons behind it. This versatile dog, with it’s many desirable traits has made them a perfect fit into the various roles of society.
The next time you are deciding on a pet, remember that a dog has good behavior, better convenience, and the best loyalty any dog could have over a cat. There are many reasons to get a pet, but how could you pass up a dog, an animal who will faithfully love you forever.
