Less than 10 students have been punished for vaping this year in Ashland High School. Vapes, as they are commonly referred to, are E-cigarettes, e-pens, e-pipes, e-hookah and e-cigars; but most commonly e-pens (vaporizers.) According to Assistant Principal Jon Walters, because vaporizers’ smoke is so hard to detect, it is almost impossible to punish every student who uses a vape pen during school. Even with the multiple allegations of students vaping in the cafeteria and restrooms, no punishment can be given to a student unless caught by an eyewitness.
The biggest concern administrators have when it comes to students vaping, is vaporizers affect on students health. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration published that many, if not all, vaporizers are full of cardigans, or cancer causing agents, including formaldehyde, benzene and tobacco-specific nitrosamines, which can even be air-born from second hand vaporizer smoke. While vaping is likely better for your health than traditional smoking, it does not mean that it is entirely healthy. Among the common e-liquid ingredients that give vapers the most trouble would be propylene glycol, which is suspected to be the culprit of vapers complaining about being dehydrated after an e-smoking session due to its ability to trap water. Other people have also complained about adverse reactions, such as allergies, to this compound. Also, there is the risk carried by nicotine.

Have you ever wondered what happens when you inhale the liquid from a vape? Many people that vape think it's a better alternative than smoking and actual cigarette, or they think it's safer than cigarettes. Vaping actually has many dangers that come with it, like it can cause the body to become weaker in fighting infections, scar the lungs, or can blow up in your face. And though it might be way safer than real cigarettes, there are many things in those vapes that can cause health dangers in the body. Though it's still early in the vape life, many researches have been done to prove of these dangerous things that can cause harm to the inside and outside of the body.

There have been many inconclusive research studies but there have been a few recent findings that prove that in reality, vaping is extremely harmful to the lungs. The nicotine in the “nicotine, whatever its source, can harm lung tissue” and nicotine is an ingredient of most vapes. There are certain styles of vape juice that does not have nicotine however
People throughout the time have been worried about some acts that people make; these acts are sometimes performed unconsciously or without realizing these are affecting they negatively affect others. Some reasons why this happens, they do not realize they are making someone uncomfortable, or they simply do not care about it. Smoking is one of these activities. For a long time, smoking in public places has been extremely popular regardless of age or gender. Many smokers believe they are free to smoke wherever and whenever they. Even if they realize the damage they are causing to themselves, which is a personal decision, when they smoke in public places they ignore the collective damage they are causing others. It has been claimed that despite not engaging in the activity themselves, “passive smokers suffer the same horrifying bad consequences as active smokers” in the form of second-hand smoke (Ecobichon & Wu, 1990, p. 43). Smoking is thus a dangerous activity that is becoming more and more popular in campus every day and is becoming a social and educational problem. Schools should ban smoking from their campus, and those that have should implement stricter methods of enforcing such rules.
Children can be exposed to e-cigarettes by using the product or exposure to the ingredients. Children and adolescents have been known to mimic adult behaviors, so seeing adults use these products may entice them to smoke e-cigarettes. These products are available as brightly colored devices, sometimes decorated with fake gemstones and cartoon characters and these would appeal to children and possibly adults as well. The liquid used in e-cigarettes contains nicotine and flavorings that are often available in flavors that would appeal to children for example, watermelon and bubble gum. Liquid nicotine is known to have toxic effects if inhaled, ingested, or absorbed through the skin (Trimarchi & Cassidy, 2011). Children coming in contact with the liquid from these devices can become very ill (American Association of Poison Control Centers [AAPCC],
Many actions have been taken on vaping and cigarettes, such as only allowing people over or at the age of eighteen to buy the product and putting warning labels on products. The serious issue is there needs to be action applied to the fact that these products can kill a human being. There is a wide variety of policies trying to be passed for vaping and cigarettes. A vaping regulation is trying to pass making all vape companies to carry products similar to products back when vaping firs started. This could cause the vaping market crash, making people lose money, and most important jobs. Some actions should be taken on tobacco products because of the risk of getting cancer in it is high.
“Thomas Aquinas once wrote that it is better to know a little of what is important than a lot of what is unimportant” (Stancil, 252). Students should have a balance of street smarts and book smarts so they can be successful in whichever career they may choose. If the typical education focuses on teaching the students only certain areas they may or may not use, then how will the students be completely prepare for life? If education is supposed to prepare students for life, then can anyone really limit or define education? Kim Jones, a CEO who wrote an article on education, claims “Education does not have a single purpose; it serves multiple objectives, and the relative importance of each of these objectives can be very personal” (Forbes.com).
Many people have given up smoking in exchange for vaping. Many vapers that were former smokers have found there are some side effects to vaping. However these side effects have proven to be temporary. One ex-smoker has created a website that shares his story as well as his findings on the use of vapes and e-cigarettes in his own personal life. The side effects he found were “Dry skin, Dry mouth, Rash/burning sensation on face, Itchiness, Puffy/dry eyes, Caffeine sensitivity, Minor blood nose issues”. Theses side effects however were much milder than the side effects he found corresponding to Cold-Turkey quitting of tobacco which include “’Quit zits’, Bleeding gums, Susceptibility to colds and the flu, Various skin issues, Anxiety, An increase in coughing, Dizziness, Insomnia, Dry throat”. Some of the side effects of smoking can prove to be life-long problems that eventually lead to
Cigarettes are one of the most common killers known to mankind. Cigarettes kill about 6 million people every year, and that number isn’t going to go down in less we do something about it. Smoking in the twentieth century killed only 100 million people, whereas a billion could die in our century. There are several more reasons why we should ban cigarettes, and I am going list them.
In recent years, smoking has started to take over the lives of many teenagers. The number of teenagers smoking has increased dramatically in the last several years. This is a major problem because smoking can lead to sickness and major diseases that can lead to death. Teens tend to participate in this while out of the presence of an adult figure. Although teens should not be smoking in the first place, an adult figure should be around to help insure that their children are doing the right things, even when they are behind sealed doors with their peers. Teenagers as they mature become a model for younger children and when they set the example of smoking can ruin their respectable image to the children that look up to them.

It was advertised to be a healthier alternative and comparable to a nicotine patch to help you quit smoking. Many people began to question this new form of smoking and if it was really a safer alternative. Even though vaping is a safer alternative than smoking, vaping is not harmless because you are still getting nicotine, inhaling poison and risking a weaker immune system.
Every year tobacco is responsible for over 480,000 deaths. That includes people who have died from secondhand smoke. When statistics like this exist it is hard to understand why tobacco is still legal. This number increases every year that passes and most people believe it isn’t shrinking anytime soon. Tobacco should be banned because it’s deadly to not only the users, it’s highly addictive, and the tobacco industry is corrupting information promoting its harmful product. Society shouldn’t have to deal with anymore premature deaths due to a lethal legal product. We should work towards getting this useless product banned everywhere.
