Clearly, our love affair with our pets has gotten out of control. According to Bilger, the author of ‘The Last Meow’ Americans spend 19 billion dollars a year on veterinary care. Bilger thinks that number is outrageous and I am with him on that. As Americans we should all make the choice to stop spending so much on our pets at the vet.
Most Americans are not educated on the care that their pets need so it is easy to be scammed by a veterinarian who is trying to milk you for your money. When treatments, vaccinations and special food is offered we do not know what to think, but out of love for our pets we pay for it. I feel like you should educate yourself on how long certain vaccines last, and how much your dog should weigh so you do not overspent on special foods and diet plans. …show more content…

Of course people who have the luxury to pay for expensive pets and pamper them always will. It might be fun to buy little shirts for your puppy or some funny looking glasses but, it looks ridiculous and it is not needed. If it isn't needed and looks ridiculous than why pour money into it?
In conclusion, Bilger is right we need to educate ourselves and stop overpaying on veterinary care. Also the wasted money on pampering and spoiling pets can be saved, so why not save it? Do your pets even appreciate the extravagant things,or do they only want some good quality time with their
