Sixty-one years ago the world would never accept anyone from the LGBT community. They were dealing with unjust behavior every time they were seen in public. But in the last 20 years more people are coming out “the closet”, there has been many protest and gatherings, and Laws have been enforced to help the growth of the LBGT community. “When all Americans are treated as equal, no matter who they are or whom they love, we are all more free” (Barrock Obama). It shouldn’t matter who a person decides to love, everybody should be treated equally. There has been many of protest and gatherings of the LGBT community after certain events has help with the growth of the community. On June 1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn in New York for “violation of liquor laws.” Gays fought back, they taunted police and threw objects at …show more content…
This Act would provide protection from any anti-discrimination of LGBT, this includes employment, housing, credit, education, and jury services (Hrc.org). Due to this Act any member of the LGBT community is able to get a job, education, and housing and should not be restricted because of who they love. LGBT will be allowed the same protection as any other free citizen under the law. Congress also launched the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus. Congress is strongly committed to making sure that all people who consider themselves as gay, Lesbian, or transgendered all around the world are protected (polish.house.gov). Lesbians, Gays, and transgendered are denied their right most American enjoy. So these Laws that are enforced gives them the freedom to do so. On June 26, 2015, the Supreme Court rule to legalize same sex marriage. No State would be allowed to ban the new same sex marriage policy (Cnn.com). This now allowing anybody of the LGBT community to make their relationship greater with the person they
Transgender is an umbrella term, meaning an individual’s gender-identity does not align with their assigned sex at birth. Although transgender is a protected class in eighteen states, these individuals still face discrimination within the country and around the world (“Non-Discrimination Laws”). Transgender is not a lifestyle, no one chooses to live their life constantly being discriminated against. Transgender issues should be more educated on and their lives should be more protected.
Gay, go into any YouTube comment section, and you will see this word. Today we know it as either defining someone’s sexuality or if someone is happy. Even in seventh grade reading, I remember us going over the word gay and the misuse of it. My teacher would tell us that kids nowadays miss use words because they’re not taught the proper meaning of words. Ironically though, we still were not taught any other meaning of the word, just two. The word gay has not only been around for centuries, but the meaning of it has also changed over time.
James Howe in his book Addie On the Inside said “Another Thing I 'm Sick of Hearing: If I started that gay rights group, I must be gay. So if i start an animal rights group, what does that make me? A giraffe?” The non-supporters of the LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transexual and Queer) community often think that if you support LGBTQ rights you’re gay yourself. This is wrong, LGBTQ rights can be supported by anyone, and their rights are an acute issue in society. There are thousands of LGBTQ couples who still cannot get married in certain states. There are many LGBTQ couples that would like to adopt children and enjoy their lives, but instead they’re being shunned for being who they are. So with this I think that LGBTQ couples should
In this world, being gay is not easy. People always are going to stereotype and think only about the sexual side of it, making it sound disgusting and inappropriate. Gay people are the same as straight people, we are all people; however that is not how it works in the workplace. There are many issues that homosexuals have to fight against to become a country, and a world, of full equality: gay guys and lesbians are discriminated and fired in many states of the United States, transgender guys and girls who are even more discriminated for the way they dress, and they are not able to get a regular job to support themselves and their families. However, there are some ways we can follow to get to live in a world of full equality. Because we are in America, the world of opportunities and freedom, nobody should be denied of getting or remaining in a job for their sexual orientations.
This act focused on heterosexual males and females but did not include lesbian females. Lesbians who are working in the corporate world are not being compensated, even though the act was supposed to negate this type of discrimination. Now we have women being discriminated against in the workplace because they are lesbians. Lambda Legal has placed workplace equality as one of its top goals for the organization, as there is no specific federal statute banning discrimination. Although some states and local governments have enacted policies that protect employees from discrimination in the workplace, based on race, gender, gender, religion, discrimination based on sexuality is left to individual interpretation of the policy.
Think about the word gay. What does that mean to you? Do you feel angry when you hear that word? Or do you feel happy? There are so many people today suffering in the world because of the word gay. Some people feel that being gay is a sin or something that shouldn’t be in the world. However, there are some people that support gay people and don’t mind them being in the world. It wasn’t a person’s choice to become gay. They didn’t just wake up one morning saying “I want to be gay”. Gays also feel scared to be themselves in the world. Also, gays get bullied all of the time for having a different sexuality and sometimes get ignored by family or even friends after coming out which is not fair.
The LGBTQ community has been a rising topic in the media. With multiple options, negative and positive, towards this group. The media has a strong influence towards the opinions and thoughts. Many people are become more excepting but still as a whole we have dividing opinions. The LGBTQ community has become a intense controversy globally because of the way they choose to live that does not necessarily fit in the twenty first century status quo.
Have you ever saw the news showing stories of LGBT people committing suicide or being murdered? Hate crimes happen often and people are bullied until they don’t want to live. These things happen all of the time. People bully LGBT people since they don’t fully understand what it means to be LGBT. Since they don’t understand, they just know that these people are different from them and they are afraid. With most of the public, people don’t know much about the LGBT community beyond the basics, so I believe informal lectures can fix this problem.
Everyone should get the right to love who they want to because whether you support it or not, everyone should be able to love freely. It’s sad to say, but it has gotten to the point that people are killing or abusing people of the LGBT community just because they are attracted to someone that is not considered normal. People shouldn’t have to hide the fact that they’re in a committed relationship to be safe from harm's way, people certainly shouldn’t have to live with offensive slurs. People constantly say it’s a phase or that it’s for attention, but
On June 26, 2015, same sex marriage was legalized in the Constitution in all 50 states, a momentous occasion in history ("Supreme Court Declares Same Sex Marriage Legal in 50 States"). Unfortunately, the reality is that in some parts of America, LGBTQ+ members can still be fired from jobs, discriminated against, evicted, or denied service because of the ideological, prejudiced situation currently present in 2016. Someone could be attacked in a hate crime (Orlando shooting) for who they love, or who they label themselves as. We still have a long way to go to truly live out the rights of equality in the Declaration of Independence.
Gay rights have always been a controversial topic. Some say that gays go against what the bible says, while others say just let them be happy. If being gay makes them happy then they should be allowed to be gay, being gay is in their pursuit to happiness which is one of their inalienable rights that no one can impede upon. Gay Rights have always been a struggle but soon will be triumphant and be a part of the past just as the civil rights movement.
The treatment of the LGBT community in American Society is a social injustice. What most people think is that they just want to be able to marry one another and be happy but that’s not it. They want to be treated like humans and not some weird creatures that no one has ever seen before. They want to be accepted for who them are and not what people want them to be and they deserve the right to be who they are just the same as any other human being. After all the discrimination they have endured they should be allowed to be who they are and be accepted as equals just like people of different skin color did in the times of segregation. We have a long way to go as a country but being the greatest country in the world in the eyes of many great America will make big steps to make things fair.
Just because society rejects the practice of homosexuality, doesn’t mean they have the right to discriminate against people that identify themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender, or any other means. People that are opposed to same-sex marriage think it would undermine traditional marriage, that it could open to what isn’t “natural” or “by God’s means” (Same-sex marriage) it will allow incest, bestiality, and other immoral things to be “acceptable”. However, that is going too far. People that identify as homosexual are not doing any of that. They are human beings too; they just do not like the opposite sex as a partner or being attractive. In most cases depending on what they call themselves they might not find them attractive. They should have all their rights like everyone else. They should be allowed to get married because the right to marry is protected under the Equal Protection Clause, the Fourteenth Amendment, and the Due Process. There should be equality for everyone; all through history homosexuals have been discriminated. Just like racial discrimination throughout history, all because of their skin. For
Homosexuality is a topic of argument these days. Is it wrong? Is it a mental disorder? Are some people born this way, or do they just choose to be different? Personally, I am not gay and I don 't really understand men that are attracted in anyway to anything other than a female, or vice versa. I don 't understand it. When you really think about it, how can it be right? This world became populated because of men and women procreating through sexual relationships. If the world was predominantly populated by gays, would the human race still be alive and thriving today? Our government recently voted to allow same sex marriage throughout the country, and thus, completely disregarded the majority in many states that did not support it. Legalizing same sex marriages attempts to "redefine" the concept of marriage, promotes families that cannot procreate naturally, and exposes our children to the unnatural reality of homosexuality.
Same-sex marriage is one of the biggest controversy we have in the world today. Though many people are for same-sex marriage, and worship the lovers that are following their hearts, others are deeply against it and disgusted by the whole matter. In fact, in some way, shape, or form, everyone has had some interaction with this controversy, whether it has had a positive or negative impact on them. Gay people, and lesbian people, are still people. There are gay firefighters, police officers, doctors, state and federal officials. Most, if not all, will not openly admit it due to the sole fact they are terrified it would jeopardize their career and character. If the world was not so judgmental
