Bullying must have severe consequences that follow the act; and not only follow the act, but severe enough to hopefully set the aggressor on a new path. As of right now, schools, districts, local and state governments are looking for ways to punish bullies and their acts. Some have called for detention, suspension and expulsion. The only problem with these is that they don’t treat the underlying problems, and suspension only rewards the behavior by sending the aggressor home for a number of days. Although the punishment needs to fit the crime, society must also address the underlying causes. Some states have implemented into law the requirement for counseling, but don’t go further than that. Other states have looked at fining and punishing the parents, but that may increase the punishment at home in unhealthy ways.
Bullies should be punished for their behavior, but not in conventional ways. They need to be ordered to community service and not suspension. If the behavior doesn’t stop, then they need to be expelled, but

Society is addressing both the needs of the bully of the victim to deter bullying in the future. There is still a lot that we need to do, and more we need to learn about bullying. Bullying is not just getting stuffed in a locker, a trashcan, getting wedgies or a noogie anymore; it’s harassment for being different in some way. Both my daughters have been victims of bullies, and seeing how it affected them killed me. I saw how they felt for getting made fun of, and why they were teased. Bullies need no less attention and that attention needs to be in the direction of awareness classes or behavior classes, as some states are now providing. We cannot stop there though, we as a community need to get involved, as a community we can stop bullying, all it takes is a little hard work and dedication and together we can stop
Bullying has been around in Canadian history for over centuries. It has affected the development of many young teens and the growth patterns in forming young adults. It has also resulted in many unnecessary deaths. Bullying has not only caused physical damage but it also causes a lot of mental distress along with psychological problems. It can hinder the growing process of a child and potentially lead to life long permanent damage. In an effort to better protect those who are bullied, harsher punishments should be considered especially in cases causing death and for those who are young, more preventative programs should be instilled in schools.
Imagine coming home from school, you are already upset from getting bullied and then your phone starts beeping. It repeatedly keeps alerting you and it fills up with hateful messages and threats. This is the life of a child who is bullied and harassed, this happens to them constantly until they eventually implode. Adults think of bullying as kids being kids and being a part of life; but, no child should go through the pain and torture of that. Bullying happens across the world, with no cure to it, it 's a plague that needs to stop. Children from the UK, France, and many other countries are subjected to this. In the United States, many cases have been dealt with which involves pre-teens and teens committed
In school you probably remember the “odd-balls” being picked on by the “cool kids”. Maybe they were being called offensive names or were being laughed at because of something they liked, if they looked or acted a certain way. Or possibly it was because of their religion. The truth of the matter is, people will use just about any reason to bully and use different methods when bullying. Questions that rise is what kind of bullying is there? How does it affect the person being targeted? How can we take a stand to stop bullying and ultimately, how can we help those who are being bullied? This essay will consider and answer these questions.
Bullying is not act that is covered in any federal law yet, but all 50 states have anti-bullying policies. Bullying is a crime because it can cause bodily harm or mental anguish to the victim. What are some strategies that can be used to help hinder bullying? One suggestion is to implement an intervention program in schools. A Norwegian study published in The British Journal of Educational Psychology, aimed to “evaluate the effects of anti- bullying intervention program targeting group as a whole. Teacher who attended a one year training course carried out interventions in school classes.” The results were “a positive impact was found on several outcome variables (frequencies of bullies and victims, observing and experiencing bullying, attitudes, and efficacy beliefs)” Salmivalli.C, Kaukiane.A, Voeten. 2005). the success of the intervention program in this study has been put into practice all over Europe. In the United States the passing of new legislation relating to school based bullying policies is make punishments harsher for students who are caught bullying other students . “Although schools are governed by a complicated set of interrelated federal and state laws, the majority of policies and practices regarding disciplinary practices are crafted at the state and local levels.” “State laws have a greater potential to influence the policies
Over 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year. Schools are suppose to be a safe haven for children, a place to go to be taught and to learn, but when someone is constantly
As a society, we often underestimate the damages that bullying cause on children, not just America but all over, and the ones who suffer are the victims themselves. Victims are damaged with the stigma that they are weak, yet somehow have to fend for themselves against something that they have little to no control over. Whether it is for funding, a reputation or any other reason schools sweep their bullying problem under the rug or turn a blind eye, however they have more potential to end this growing issue. To the schools that think bullying is not their problem, they should know that according to heyugly.org, an anti-bullying campaign, “Approximately, 160,000 children a day stay home from school in fear of being bullied.”They also point out
Human nature will never change. You can observe children and create guidelines to reduce bullying, but there will always be egotistical, hostile individuals in society. It is a vicious cycle that cannot be broken because victims do not take a stand due to fear, retaliation, and consequences. Bullies rarely get caught, and when they do, they blame the victim, therefore, the victim usually gets the punishment for retaliation. This only shows that our enforcement system is not working. Society will not stand up against bullying because most people do not care as long as it is not affecting them or choose to look the other way. Because our current system is not working, bullying victims are feeling trapped in a world of hopelessness.
Why do people bully? Some people bully because they are afraid. When people are afraid of something or someone, they decide to bully. People choose to bully, because they think it make them cool. They think if they bully people, others would want to be like them. They believe it would help them fit in with the people around. They think it would help them be like someone who everyone else look up too. They want their friends to see how bad they are or how bad they try to be. Bullies are not as bad as most people think they are. Some people bully only on small people. You don’t see to many bullies bullying on each other. Even bullies are afraid of each other. The bully think since they are bigger than another person, they have more power. Some people even bully others because they may be getting bullied somewhere else. They may come to school and bully someone else to get their mind off of what some else are doing to them.
Every bully has different characteristics. As a result there’s no clear scheme or strategy that can stop the problem from ever occurring. By being able to spot deal with and offer long term bullying support you’ve targeted bullying at all junctures. Bullying can be taking care of no kid or teen needs to worry about being bullied when entering a school or entering social media sites. Kids and teens have to feel safe everywhere they go so they can have a good life and get through school without
Bullying is a very immoral behavior which leads to emotional and self-esteem issues to the target and in extreme or persistent cases it has been found to lead to suicide. The bullies should be well punished and counseled to stop the behavior.
Although bullying continues to be an issue in our society, but mainly in schools, all we can do is keep educating kids on what is right and wrong, letting them know the consequences of their actions both to its victim and to themselves. Also, parents can be more enlightened on how to raise their kids in healthier way so that they do not grow up seeking for attention or power in the wrong ways.
Bullying against teens is still happening even though there are various awareness programs to try to prevent it. I want to create awareness of bullying against teens of all religions, race, and sexual orientation. Even with the various attention to bullying, the problem still persists despite the school providing awareness, students are still afraid to say anything. Societal patterns today make bullying a difficult issue to eliminate. Starting in 2007, a total of 35 states made laws to go against bullying at school. These laws consisted of a clear definition of bullying, and how schools will be required to enforce uniform standards of conduct. The reason bullying comes as such an issue to me is because I actually know friends that have been suicidal and have caused themselves harm due to being bullied every day, in school and at home.
Bullying is something that is not something new and is actually something that society continues to face. Over the years, bullying has been looked at as being so ordinary in schools that it is continuously overlooked as an emanate threat to students and has been lowered to a belief that bullying is a part of the developmental stage that most young children will experience then overcome (Allebeck, 2005, p. 129). Not everyone gets over the extreme hurt that can come as an effect from bullying, for both the bully and the victim. Because of this, we now see bullying affecting places such as the workplace, social events and even the home. The issue of bullying is not only experienced in schools, but the school environment is one of the best places
Problems usually have solutions. Solutions could be extremely easy to find, or the process of finding one could be problematic. One worldly issue that does not have a solution yet is bullying. Bullying is present in schools world-wide, and it has been this way since there have been schools. This horrible act is accepted as part of life. People are used to bullying, that it almost seems normal. This should not be the case. Bullying is a horrific act that needs to be stopped, but is that possible? Three specific ways people have proposed to stop bullying is to criminalize bully in an attempt to deter any further bullying, to assign bullies student mentors in order to have someone guide them, or to force school or parental figures to be more active in trying to prevent bullying. Each of these methods has its advantages and disadvantages, but which is the best method to effectively stop bullying?
Bullying has become a serious problem in public schools systems. Being a victim of bullying is a daily struggle for some students. The issue continues to grow, but the question is how to stop bullying from occurring. Many ways have been attempted to stop bullying, but some are more effective than others. Having the students get involved seems to have the most positive effect on the bullying issue in public school systems.
