Finding one good reason for putting a child in life or death situations will never suit for achievement. The mother of a fetus may put herself in life or death risk while smoking cigarettes during pregnancy. Smoking during pregnancy can lead to placental abruption, stillbirths, preterm birth, and heart conditions (Lurie et al, 2014). If a mother cannot take care of her own body health, then she will not take care of a child’s health. Ultimately, a mother’s decision of what to do during pregnancy will lead to the health risk or effects on her child. Studies have concluded that smoking leads to preterm births. Preterm births define as births before the 37-week gestation period for a fetus. When a preterm birth arrives, health problems instantly remain consequently. All types of smokes whether passively or second hand smoke can affect the fetus tremendously (Cui et al, 2016). Some people may oppose over the preterm births, but knowingly smoking while pregnant gives the fetus many possible health issues not good for their
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a mother’s prenatal smoking can lead to premature birth, birth defects, and infant death. The CDC states that women who smoke are more likely to have miscarriages and premature births. Babies born to mothers who smoke are more likely to have low birth weight and have an increased risk of being born with a cleft lip or cleft palette. Babies of smoking m...
Numerous people are uninformed about how unhealthy pregnancies are on women. There are an overabundance of health risks for pregnancies, including high blood pressure, heart disease, kidney problems, autoimmune disorders, infections, diabetes, cancer, and as well as miscarriages. These health risks can cause permanent damage to the mother. World Health Organization reports that “Every day, approximately 800 women die from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth.” All of these deaths could have been prevented. If abortion is made illegal, then these women have no choice. They either risk dying, risk their child dying, or both. A person might not often hear much about women dying during pregnancy, but it happens often. Nearly 287,000 women died because of childbirth, according to World Health Or...
The number of women who have taken up smoking during pregnancy has significantly increased and is continuing to rise, despite the government targets for reducing it (BBC Health). Statistics reveal that one in three pregnant women are continuing to smoke, in spite of the current social policies and campaigns that are in force to help them quit. Campaigns including NHS smoke free, NHS stop smoking services and local stop smoking clinics drop in where women can...
Someone you might know, whether your grandparents, parents, siblings, friends, or even yourself, smokes or has smoked cigarettes. If you haven’t yourself, you’ve seen the effects and consequences one can encounter. Not always, but sometimes, you see the struggles and sickness your loved one can go through and you’d give anything to make that someone feel better. Technology has been on a rise and possibly figured out a safer way. Smoking an electronic cigarette or perhaps a traditional cigarette still provides the nicotine, but it’s possible one can change not just someone’s health for the better but others around them.
Smoking is not only had for the internal environment, it is also bad for the internal organs as well. Smoking can cause a number of diseases and reduce overall health in smokers (Center for Disease Control and Prevention). When an individual smokes, they increase their chances of getting cancer not only in the lungs, but other organs such as the bladder, mouth, stomach, liver, colon and rectum, to name a few (Center for Disease Control and Prevention). Smoking has also been known to cause leukemia. Every cigarette smoked affects breathing and causes scarring of the lungs (Be Tobacco Free). On the other hand, smoking increases a smoker’s chance of developing cardiovascular diseases due to smoking. They have a greater chance of developing hypertension (high blood pressure), strokes, heart attacks, aneurysms, etc. (American Heart Association). Chemicals in tobacco smoke harms blood cells and damages heart functions (Be Tobacco Free). On the contrary, a pregnant woman is at risk for harming not only herself, but her fetus before, during, and after birth (March of Dimes). When a woman smokes durin...
Many actions have been taken on vaping and cigarettes, such as only allowing people over or at the age of eighteen to buy the product and putting warning labels on products. The serious issue is there needs to be action applied to the fact that these products can kill a human being. There is a wide variety of policies trying to be passed for vaping and cigarettes. A vaping regulation is trying to pass making all vape companies to carry products similar to products back when vaping firs started. This could cause the vaping market crash, making people lose money, and most important jobs. Some actions should be taken on tobacco products because of the risk of getting cancer in it is high.
Every American needs to stop and evaluate the risks that come along with smoking cigarettes and why American’s as a whole should drop this bad habit. According to Xin Xu, from Center for Disease Control and Prevention (COD), “Smoking kills about 480,000 American’s each year and remains the leading cause of preventable death and disease in the United States.” The cost of a pack of cigarettes range from 5.25 to 12.85; therefore, over 20 years, if a person smokes a pack a day, it cost about 38,000 dollars to smoke cigarettes. One’s appearance will diminish over time. Research shows that a smoker’s life expectancy is 10 years shorter than a nonsmoker. No matter what age someone is, it is never too late to stop smoking. American’s need to drop the bad habit of smoking because of the cost and also, the effect of one’s appearance, health, and future.
...just being around a person that does can cause harm to a mother’s fetus. Women need to know that smoking can cause miscarriages, premature birth, and other damage to a baby. Before women that smoke decide to make the decision of getting pregnant, they should research all the harmful effects that smoking has on a fetus. If pregnant smokers were to halt tobacco use a total of 986 infant deaths would be averted annually. This validates the need for infusion of more resources into existing smoking cessation campaigns in order to achieve higher quit rates, and substantially diminish current levels of smoking-associated infant deaths (Salihu, Aliyu, Pierre-Louis, & Alexander, 2003). The only way a woman can avoid pregnancy complications associated with smoking is to quit and she should also avoid others who smoke in order to avoid the dangers of second hand smoke.
Second Hand Smoke In the 1950's and 60's scientists gave the people a lot of evidence on the deadly effects of smoking where the tobacco companies on the other hand tried to put the doubt in people’s minds through the campaigns to show that it is not all true. By the time people actually decided to take care of their health and finally saw how life-threatening smoking could be by real life examples, the tobacco companies already got rich from its sales. Nowadays, nobody doubts that “firsthand” smoke is deadly to your health and it causes lung cancer and heart disease in adults and asthma and bronchitis in children. Now the industry is onto the secondhand smoke. Scientists and researchers are representing a lot of evidence and research that has been done throughout the years showing that the secondhand smoke can also cause a lung cancer in nonsmokers. The study has been done of people who have been long exposed to secondhand smoke and it shows that 26 out of 33 published studies indicate a link between secondhand smoke and lung cancer. The study estimates that the people that were breathing secondhand smoke were 8 to 150 percent more likely to get lung cancer. The tobacco companies are trying to argue the facts and are still in serious debate about the health hazards of breathing a secondhand smoke. A lot of anti-smoking organizations are trying to turn smoking in public into a private activity that does not have to involve nonsmokers breathing secondhand smoke. What is even more important is that many of these organizations convinced a lot of smokers to cut back or quit completely. The problem of secondhand smoke is increasing because it is so common in our society. It makes secondhand smoke the third-ranking cause of lung cancer among nonsmokers. Mothers who live with a smoking spouse have to realize the ill effects of secondhand smoke on children even before they are born. The smoking components reach the developing fetus through the mother. Infants that are born in a smoking environment weigh less and have a weaker chance of becoming a fully developed child. Secondhand smoke leads to blood clots and damages arterial linings which are the two most leading factors in the development of heart disease. The tobacco companies got scared of the effect that the secondhand smoke research can do to the cigarette makers.
With smoking having obvious proven consequences, what does everyone think about smoking and health care???
Cigarettes are one of the most common killers known to mankind. Cigarettes kill about 6 million people every year, and that number isn’t going to go down in less we do something about it. Smoking in the twentieth century killed only 100 million people, whereas a billion could die in our century. There are several more reasons why we should ban cigarettes, and I am going list them.
The major impact of smoking to the society has been increasing smoke related illnesses such as cancer, blood flow problems to the joints and other lung related disease. It also reduces a person’s reproductive health with women smokers a third less likely to get pregnant. Women smokers also may kill their unborn children or give birth to deformed children (Hindmarch, 2008).
One of the biggest problems that people are faced with on a day-to-day basis is cigarette smoke. The sole cause for 480,000 deaths each year just in the United States is accredit to cigarettes(CDC). For a lot of the smokers the habit of smoking happens to assist them when under stress and dealing with issues that are unmanageable. Some smoke to appeal to their peers or simply because it “feels good.” Smoking one cigarette can lead to a major addiction. The effects of smoking hurt oneself and those amongst us. Smoking Kills as the ad portrays this revolver and cigarettes as the bullets, and also lists the side effects of smoking. Cigarettes causes cancer, increases the risk of you getting a stroke, highly addictive and causes a lot of health problems. Nearly 16
Scientists and health officials have been arguing the detrimental effects smoking has on our health for many years. Smoking can lead to serious complications including asthma, pancreas, lung and stomach cancer due to the large number of carcinogens (cancer causing chemicals) and other various substances added to it. It is a health hazard for both smokers and non-smokers and it is especially harmful to unborn babies. Although smokers claim that it helps them to relax and release stress, the negative aspects of the habit take over the positive. As it has been stressed by the scientists and experts, there are some very severe reasons of smoking but its crucial consequences should also be taken into consideration.
“According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are an estimated 1.3 billion smokers worldwide. This number is expected to increase to 1.7 billion by 2020…According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), smoking causes approximately 443,000 deaths each year in the United States” (“Smoking”). Tobacco has over 4,000 chemicals, including some that are poisonous and some that cause cancer (“Smoking”).Smokers tend to die 13 or 14 years earlier than those who don’t smoke (“11…”). Women who smoke during pregnancy subject their baby to the dangers of being miscarried, being born prematurely, dying during infancy, and mental and physical developmental issues. The use of tobac...
