A sexual predator is a person who hunts for or seek another person for sexual contacts. These contacts are sometimes violent and abusive. Each year, countless children around the world fall prey to sexual predators. These young victims are left with permanent psychological, physical, and emotional scars. A large number of sexual predators are utilizing the Internet to prey on vulnerable children through chat rooms, social media and instant messages. Because of their immature and embryonic minds, most children develop a sense that sexual predators do not exist or that it will never happen to them. Sexual predators do exist and pose a real threat to children. An ABC News report entitled, Epidemic Online: 50,000 Predators a Minute, highlights the 50,000 predators online at any given time (Thomas, n.d.). These predators are likely luring profiles or hiding in chat rooms in search of children as sex targets. Predators hunt for both boys and girls of all ages and use the anonymity of the Internet to create fake profiles to become whomever they want. Many victims of child exploitation are runaway girls who were sexually abused as children. These connections may begin as online dating and later progressing into a real life sexual encounters. The child may be deceived into believing she’s in an exclusive, loving, trusting and caring relationship and later pimped into prostitution, pornography, and other forms of sexual behaviors. Sex trafficking is a human right issue which breaks the slavery violation in the UDHR. It 's going on in many countries like Thailand and is happening to young children. This should be stopped because its inhuman and no child or person should have to go through it.
Social networking sites leave opportunities for vulnerability, however, I don’t believe many youths are an easy target. Using ethos, pathos and logos individuals can create their own reality to relate to the internet world who they think are and how they wish to be seen. In mediated publics such as Facebook and Instagram, the user has complete control of his or her profile and is the only one who can allow content about his/herself to be shared. It is my personal belief that as technology has evolved many people have taken to fabricating some truths here and there and omitting details to give an ideal representation of who they are without incriminating themselves or leaving themselves vulnerable for mistreatment. The fantasy of what is or could be is more desirable than reality. In the past few years, privacy settings have been adapted to cover the growing technological advances to keep users safe from online predators.
Merriam Webster defines a sex offender as “a person who has been convicted of a crime involving sex.” (Sex Offender) This definition hits the nail on the head, but there is still the question of why would a person even commit the crimes that would classify them as a sex offender. The answer to this would possibly be that they do not choose. Some people are simply born with more inappropriate tendencies in their mind and if coupled with sexual abuse as a child from a parent or some other adult, then one would have a very scarred person that would eventually start committing heinous acts as well. Statistically, child sex offenders deceive and entice there victims into compliance instead of using physical force or violence to achieve their intentions. (Megan’s Law) This means that not only are they mentally ill, but they can also be very smart and manipulative, which is
As just mention the term sexual predators generally is a “depreciatory term for a person attempting to initiate or initiating sexual contact with another person in a ‘predatory’ manner. It is most commonly used in reference to pedophiles that prey on innocent children, but may refer to any other sexually vulnerable group including the mentally disabled and elderly” (Segen’s Medical Dictionary, 2011). Every semester, a student attending a college campus will have at some point experience some inappropriate, unwanted attention. There is always someone at school who tends to make someone uncomfortable, be it through eye contact, persistent advances, or just uncalled for innuendos. Molestation is the first type of sexual abuse that’ll be discussed. Molestation is a form of child abuse in which an adult or older adolescent uses a child for sexual stimulation. Most people think sexual abusers are strangers to their victims. But the truth is most abusers know their victims and use their stand in their relationship to try to make the victims do what the abusers want them to do. Most children who get molest are by family members. “More than 90 percent of juvenile sexual abuse victims know their perpetrator in some way.” (Snyder, Howard). According to Dr. Elizabeth Forsyth and Margret Hyde, research done in the 1980s and 1990s suggests that almost all abusers are males who are known to their victims and that most abuse occurs within the family. (pg. 21) One in three girls and one in five boys get sexually abused before the age of eighteen. (Arta, C)

Sexual traffickers often recruit children because not only are children more unsuspecting and vulnerable than adults, but there is also a high market demand for young victims. Traffickers target victims on the telephone, social media, through friends, at the mall, and in extracurricular programs. Many traffickers train these young women, such as raping them and forcing them to learn sexual acts. A 2003 study in the Netherlands found that, on average, a single sex slave earned her pimp at least $250,000 a year. Svitlana Batsyukova differentiates sex slavery from prostitution (2007) in that prostitutes typically interact in their trade at their own free will and are monetarily compensated.
"Sweetie" was entered into a total of 19 chat rooms, in which she was propositioned to perform sexual acts by 20,172 adult men from 71 different countries, who had been informed of her age. Terre des Hommes' (2013) informal "sting" operation identified 1,000 online predators in just 10 weeks, and estimated there to be 750,000 predators online, at any given time (Terre des Hommes, 2013). No computer hacking or illegal methods were used to identify the perpetrators, which raises the question: why is child webcam sex tourism growing so rapidly if c...
“Stolen people, stolen dream” is the brutality faced by numerous, vulnerable, gullible children in the black market around the world even in the admirable United States. Trafficking of children is the modern day slavery, the act of recruiting, harboring, transporting, providing, or obtaining a person for compelled labor or commercial sex acts through the use of force, fraud, or coercion. More than ever, it has become a lucrative method that is trending in the underground economy. A pimp can profit up to $150,000 per children from age 4-12 every year, as reported by the UNICEF. Generally, social networking provides online sexual predators with an easy gateway to youths. Users of online social media services tend to share copious amounts of personal information on online profiles, these same users control who can or cannot see their information by utilizing privacy settings. The problem with these “privacy settings” is that they are often hard to manipulate, leaving a multitude of online profiles vulnerable to often explicit offers from online sexual predators. Lacking the ability to protect their information properly, users are in jeopardy of being contacted by sexual predators. In fact, “[d]uring the years prior to the explosive expansion of social networks, most online sexual predators attempted to contact youths through chat rooms and message boards. In recent years, however, predators are increasingly targeting minors over social networking services”, showing that social networking directly puts youths in peril (Guo, 626). This sheds light on the fact that social networking is basically a way to herd youths and display them ...
There are so many things that I have never found really interesting to me or at least something that could make me want to try and change it. I still don’t understand why people want to hurt kids. This is not something that should be a norm in our culture, but it is. This should be changed instead of just letting it happen sure it is going to be hard to charge, but there are still things that we can do to help kids that have gone through it and their parents. It also does depend on who abused them then they can go to jail. There are still things that we do not have a real understanding as to what sexual abuse is in general. It is not a well-known topic unless some has been abused. We assume that the victim is to blame them for what happened to them, but it is not their fault. We blame people because we do not want to see the perpetrator as the one who should be in trouble. In this case we do not have the knowledge as to what sexual abuse really is. The definition of sexually abuse is a sex act that is non-consensual and this could be anything. This does not mean that consensual sex is
