There is no doubt that a computer driven car can outperform a human driver in almost every way. Dr. Janet Fleetwood from the Department of Community Health and Prevention writes "The public's health has been dramatically affected by improvements in automotive design, such as seatbelts and automatic airbags, yet nothing portends a more significant reduction in morbidity and mortality rates from motor vehicle accidents than autonomous vehicles, sometimes known as "driverless, "robotic," or "self-driving" cars" (Fleetwood). Eric Teoh and David Kidd from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, conducted a study that provided the results from Google's field testing of its self-driven car vs. human drivers. They reported that "Results suggest that highly-automated vehicles can perform more safely than human drivers in certain conditions, but will continue to be involved in crashes with conventionally-driven vehicles" (Teoh and Kidd). The majority of the self-driven car incidences involved a conventionally driven vehicle either rear-ending or side-swiping the Google vehicle. They also report that Google's testing was very biased and failed to report incidences that the test drivers intervened to prevent a potential crash from happening, failed to report crashes that were not considered police reportable and did not operate during inclement weather in which could be the cause of some of the human operated vehicle mishaps. These tests were conducted under supervision and highly controlled; thus, indicating that their technology is progressing but not truly ready for interaction with the general motoring public or harsh weather

Drunk driving is a factor in nearly one-third of all fatal accidents. Even if you aren’t the one driving, you are still at risk any moment to get involved in an accident that could’ve been prevented. By legalizing fully self-driving cars, we won’t have to fear the pain of losing a loved one. We could have a quick fix to all of this madness easily. The number of traffic accidents are soaring at 1.3 million deaths a year. Drunk Driving is still one of the number one causes of vehicle deaths; therefore, the government should allow self-driving cars to become legal to combat the issue. If we don’t act now to combat this issue we will have to deal with the consequences it will bring.
In the present time most of the drivers encountered on the open road are driving automatic transmission. Many, if not most, go through their life without knowing how to drive manual transmission. The main reason being because of the necessity of using both feet and having to drive one handed. Learning how to drive both is a skill that will open a new world of opportunities. One never knows if there will ever be a situation that will require a person to know how to drive manual, also known as “stick shift”. Yes the vehicle can turn off on the driver preventing the car to advance, but all it takes is tremendous amount of patience.

Although there are issues with implementing self-driving cars on the roads today, self-driving cars can ultimately benefit society. According to public announcements made by companies like Tesla and Nissan, we may start seeing self-driving cars on the roads within the next 3 to 6 years [Ref. 1 and 2].
Purchasing a car is one of the hugest or biggest accomplishments that a person can achieve on their own. However, what happens when that purchase turns out to also be the worst decision that was ever made? The purchase was a success and a goal was achieved, but the moment the key is turned and the engine is started the contribution to environmental harm begins. As the car is driven, the gasoline fumes that are released from the car contribute to the other many factors and pollutants that damage the environment. Not only is the purchase now a contributor to the depletion of clean air, but it could also play a part in the depletion of someone’s health. For example, asthma or bronchitis could develop in an adult or child as a direct result of breathing in noxious automotive fumes. Depending on where one lives, there could be strict regulations on air pollution. One must be accountable for any and all contributions made to the demise of what was once a healthy Earth. One must be accountable for his or her own carbon footprint. Some individuals have taken steps to reduce their carbon footprints and cause less harm to the environment by purchasing electric cars.
Hybrid vehicles, which are environmentally friendly vehicles, which will replace fossil fueled car in the future but they currently have a limited range and long fueling time. As fossil fuel resources start to become limited and non-environmentally friendly, car manufacturers are looking to find ways to make hybrid vehicles the future of transportation. Hybrid vehicles are beneficial since they are efficient, reduce pollution, and cut global emission than the current hybrids models. As such, hybrid-electric vehicles can have substantial public benefits for both the environment and for energy security. Do most people care to think about what could go wrong with hands free driving? Unfortunately, most people don't even consider the hand free technology in the cars they drive. The technology has become so commonplace that people have become accustomed to it in their everyday lives. While these technologies would appear to make driving safer, if often has the opposite effect. Studies show that using hands free technology can be just as dangerous as manually doing it yourself. While most people would assume that hands free technology, devices, and cars would make driving safer, there are many aspects of the technology that might make one think otherwise.
Inventors hope to help people with autonomous cars because “autonomous cars can do things that human drivers can’t” (qtd. in “Making Robot Cars More Human). One of the advantages that driverless cars have is that “They can see through fog or other inclement weather, and sense a stalled car or other hazard ahead and take appropriate action” (qtd. in “Making Robot Cars More Human). Harsh weather conditions make it difficult and dangerous for people to drive, however, the car’s ability to drive through inclement weather “frees the user’s time, creates opportunities for individuals with less mobility, and increases overall road safety” (Bose 1326). With all the technology and software in the car, it can “improve road traffic system[s] and reduces road accidents” (Kumar). One of the purposes for creating the driverless car was to help “make lives easier for senior citizens, people with disabilities, people who are ill, or people who are under influence of alcohol” (Kumar). It can be frightening to know that that we share share our roads with drivers that could potentially endanger our lives as well as other people’s lives. How can people not feel a sense of worry when “cars kill roughly 32,000 people a year in the U.S.” (Fisher 60)? Self-driving cars are the wave of the future. There is much debate regarding the impact a self-driving car will have on our society and economy. Some experts believe fully autonomous vehicles will be on the road in the next 5-10 years (Anderson). This means a vehicle will be able to drive on the road without a driver or any passengers.
