Seventy year old Minnie has been working really hard after coming out of retirement from the past 5 years. Ever since Mickey died she needed a reason to be out of the house, and working as an entertainer where she sings at night is the only way she can provide for herself. And by working long hours from the evening to the night she doesn’t get the amount of rest she needs. She works harder than her body can handle and since she is surrounded by people that smoke her intake of second hand smoke is not measured, along with her smoking because of the stress. Over the past year her caffeine intake has also increased by drinking coffee to keep her running, and getting her job done.
Her vocal nodules over time have become more hard and stiff, so

She can substitute coffee for herbal tea, and drink more water so that her vocal nodules are hydrated. She needs to also sleep more as now that she’s older she doesn’t have the energy she used to and get the rest her body her needs. Also she should have a steady diet and avoid spicy food or meals that would irritate her throat. And slowly but gradually get off smoking, it’s a habit that with time can be broken and something she can control unlike second hand smoke. This won’t heal her completely but it would be on the path to her nodules recovering gradually.
For intervention methods to improve Minnie’s voice she would first need to visit a Speech Language Pathologist to see how long it will take for the damage to be fixed and how she can improve the quality of her voice in respect to her vocal nodules. She would need to attend therapy for at least six months in order to avoid surgery and be on the path for recovery. And along with going to speech therapy she will need to benefit her health and avoid smoking and drinking. And work towards not straining her voice and
She got a new disease called stenotrophomonas, which is very difficult to treat. She was becoming pan-resistant, meaning she was resistant to everything. She had a bacteria called Gram negative. This bacteria has an armor formed around the negative bacteria that makes it harder for normal antibiotics to cure it. She was left with only one option, a lung transplant. For one, it was a very risky option since her body was so weak, and two, she would have to wait until a transplant even came up for her to have. She ended up getting the lung transplant though. Two years after she came home from the operation and she is still alive, but she has to be very cautious every day. She takes a handful of prescriptions twice a day and still picks up bacteria easily. Her mom said she has gotten pneumonia twice already. Her life is now extremely difficult, but she is at least
65year old male Bill Mc Donald a current smoker, presents from home with a chronic productive cough, increase shortness of breath at rest, wheezing and increase in lethargy. Bill has a past medical history of chronic obstructed airway disease, recurrent bronchial infections and current pack a day smoker.
My PICOT question was developed after reading the case study about a patient named Vincent Brody who had for the last 50 years of his life consumed 40 cigarettes a day and despite his diagnosis of Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and a recent episode of exacerbation of his condition that required him to be admitted to hospital he was continuing to smoke.
Minnie often displays disruptive behaviors including: interrupting her parents when they are talking on the phone, disrupting other children’s activities, not waiting to take turns, interrupting other when they are speaking, and blurting out the first thing that comes to her mind. Parent ratings of disruptive behavior are consistent with the examiners observations. During the intake interview, Minnie frequently interrupted the examiners questions to talk, interrupted her mother while speaking, and ran around the interview room. During the assessment sessions, Minnie would interrupt the examiner to tell an unrelated story or ask an unrelated question. Minnie appeared to make statements without thinking about the implications of these remarks for example, Minnie reported to the examiner that she should get a divorce due to not having children. Based on Ms. and Mr. Mouse’s ratings, Minnie also engages in impulsive behavior which include acting without thinking, acting out of control, and having little self-control. This is consistent with Ms. Mouse report that Minnie is accident prone and frequently engages in impulsive, risky behaviors such as jumping down from long distance and jumping into moving rivers, and runs and climbs when and where she is not allowed. Reports of impulsivity are consistent with examiners observation. On two
Someone you might know, whether your grandparents, parents, siblings, friends, or even yourself, smokes or has smoked cigarettes. If you haven’t yourself, you’ve seen the effects and consequences one can encounter. Not always, but sometimes, you see the struggles and sickness your loved one can go through and you’d give anything to make that someone feel better. Technology has been on a rise and possibly figured out a safer way. Smoking an electronic cigarette or perhaps a traditional cigarette still provides the nicotine, but it’s possible one can change not just someone’s health for the better but others around them.
Her phonetic inventory is well developed. She has no troubles creating the age-appropriate speech sounds. The child is just above normal because she can produce more adult-like sounds than her peers. She has control over her articulators and she knows how to manipulate her oral cavity to produce the correct sounds.
Minnie had nothing but her canary to keep her company since John was no source of companionship. John was so against noise, that the couple would not “ ‘...to have had any children around. No, Wright wouldn’t like the bird--a thing that sang. She used to sing. He killed that too’ “ (Glaspell 245-246). John killed her only companion that fulfilled that social interaction need, and when he took away that little piece of interaction away, Minnie soon lost her mind. With this prolonged isolation, it can cause “changes in the brain’s white matter have been seen before in psychiatric disorders, and demyelinating disorders like multiple sclerosis have also had association with depression” (“Prolonged Loneliness”). John killed off Minnie’s only real source of socialization, leading her to have this prolonged confinement which, like said above, caused Minnie to form a psychiatric disorder making her go crazy. These events start to fall into a domino like theory, John Wright’s actions created this isolated lifestyle for Minnie, leading to her change in personality and emotions,
Many actions have been taken on vaping and cigarettes, such as only allowing people over or at the age of eighteen to buy the product and putting warning labels on products. The serious issue is there needs to be action applied to the fact that these products can kill a human being. There is a wide variety of policies trying to be passed for vaping and cigarettes. A vaping regulation is trying to pass making all vape companies to carry products similar to products back when vaping firs started. This could cause the vaping market crash, making people lose money, and most important jobs. Some actions should be taken on tobacco products because of the risk of getting cancer in it is high.
The voice is our primary mean of communication and expression. We rarely last more than a few minutes without its use whether it is talking to someone else or humming quietly to ourselves. We can use the voice artistically in many ways. For example, singing carries the rhythm and melody of speech. It creates patterns of pitch, loudness, and duration that tie together syllables, phrases and sentences. We use the voice for survival, emotion, expression, and to reflect our personality. The loss of the voice is a severe curtailment to many professions. It is affected by general body condition which is why we need to consider the location of the larynx and how that organ produces voice. Surprisingly, this complex biological design is mechanical in function. It is mechanical to the point that when it has been excised from a cadaver and mounted on a laboratory bench, the larynx produces sounds resembling normal phonation. (Titze, Principles)
Secondhand smoke, we have all heard of it and know at least one person that smokes. Throughout the history of smoking, many researchers have found that secondhand smoke is more dangerous than the actual smoking of cigarettes. Many people know that there are dangers to smoking and secondhand smoke, but many tend to avoid the advice given to them. Secondhand smoke is very harmful to people of all ages. It destroys the inside and outside of one’s body. Secondhand smoke is not only dangerous indoors but as well as outdoors. On average every year there are many death results found. As humans should want to live a healthier life and come together to prevent smoking in the future.
Every year tobacco is responsible for over 480,000 deaths. That includes people who have died from secondhand smoke. When statistics like this exist it is hard to understand why tobacco is still legal. This number increases every year that passes and most people believe it isn’t shrinking anytime soon. Tobacco should be banned because it’s deadly to not only the users, it’s highly addictive, and the tobacco industry is corrupting information promoting its harmful product. Society shouldn’t have to deal with anymore premature deaths due to a lethal legal product. We should work towards getting this useless product banned everywhere.
One of the biggest problems that people are faced with on a day-to-day basis is cigarette smoke. The sole cause for 480,000 deaths each year just in the United States is accredit to cigarettes(CDC). For a lot of the smokers the habit of smoking happens to assist them when under stress and dealing with issues that are unmanageable. Some smoke to appeal to their peers or simply because it “feels good.” Smoking one cigarette can lead to a major addiction. The effects of smoking hurt oneself and those amongst us. Smoking Kills as the ad portrays this revolver and cigarettes as the bullets, and also lists the side effects of smoking. Cigarettes causes cancer, increases the risk of you getting a stroke, highly addictive and causes a lot of health problems. Nearly 16
Smoking is a nasty habit. Cigarette smoke is toxic and harmful to breathe. People gag and choke just by getting a whiff of cigarette smoke of a passing smoker. Others can have life-threatening reactions. People have the right to clean air and to enjoy life without the stink of smoke. A smoking ban will solve this problem.
But unfortunately I have no choice in most public patios. One says passive smoking but I want rather call it involuntary smoking .
