If you are faced with a mugger, what would you do? Would pull a gun on them, and run the risk of being shot. Citizens who have a concealed handgun are more likely to be shot than someone who doesn't. Will they finally end the conceal and carry laws? If colleges allowed concealed carry there would be an increase in school shootings. There are many dangers in owning a gun.
There is a link between owning a gun and deaths associated with firearms. If guns and homicides are related to each other why do people keep buying them? Homicides are a huge thing in this country, and if we cleanse Homicide rates increase with every 1% of guns owned there is a 1.1% rise in homicides related to firearms and an overall .7 increase in homicides total(Defilippis and Hughes, 2015). This statistic shows that for every 1 citizen that buys a gun is 1 person killed increasing .7% in all homicide rates. It's not just a homicide increase there is also an increase in overall suicidality levels measure, for example, mental sickness, alcoholism, poorness, etc. Suicide rates are increased because people who owned guns are more likely to kill themselves because guns are more lethal. This was a very informative article. I was unaware of all the deaths in result of gun violence. I didn’t realize that people who worked for the government or who was in congress were often targets. In order to fully get rid of gun violence in schools, each and every school should have metal detectors that can detect weapons and always have security guards on duty. By doing this, parents are more comfortable with sending their students off to school. Taking this step in every school around the world would definitely cost lots of money but it will honestly be worth it. It is a sad time in American history when one can easily recount recent school shootings in their own area. This ease stems from a sharp increase in the number of firearms brought into elementary and middle schools across the country, with an intense focus on the issue beginning after the shooting of 20 children from Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut. Most school shooters are male, white, and often upper middle class. They are also more, often than not, under some type of mental stress that is causing them to create this type of violence in our communities. In fact, many school shooters are never suspected of doing any harm to their peers and teachers until it is much too late.
Of all school shootings only 47 percent of them are on college campuses. The other 53 percent are in elementary through high school grade campuses. These numbers can be drastically cut back by allowing concealed and open carry on college campuses. Students should be allowed to open carry on campus because it increases the protection of both themselves and the public.
Alternatively, the people who believe that concealed weapons should be allowed in college campus state that they are are allowed to because of what the second amendment. The second amendment allows for any resident of the United States to be able to buy and own a concealed weapon of their choice. Students for Concealed Carry state the point that a person should be allowed to own a gun if they wish to be able to feel safe and protect themselves by stating, “Why should a 105-pound woman who is allowed the means to defend herself against a 250-pound would-be rapist outside of campus not be afforded the same right on campus” (647)? Other people also believe that having a gun would be able to deter the shooter. They believe the shooter would be stopped just by the thought of him going to a place filled with guns would trigger feat in their brain and make them rethink that they are about to do. “It’s hard to attain infamy if a concealed handgun license holder ends your shooting spree before it begins” (Students for Concealed Carry 647). There are many different types of school violence. The one that gets the most public attention is school shootings. The term school shooting is basically defined as an act where a student, school staff member, or intruder from the outside commits an act on the school campus.
