There have been eight school shootings in just the first two months of 2018. Tell me, aren’t we supposed to feel safe at school, work, the mall, a concert. Even after all this time, no action has been taken by our government. The United States needs gun control because it would save lives and we’ve waited long enough for gun control. In 2017, 549 children have died due to shootings (Gun Violence Archive). With restrictions and vetting, we could help prevent future massacres and save lives. In Australia after a shooting in a gift shop the Prime Minister implemented gun control and now 20 years later there has been no more mass shootings. America should learn from the U.K., Australia, Japan, and Germany that gun control is the answer (Jowit,
So, the Lake County High School student body was told today by Jimmy Snyder, that we will be having a school shooting drill sometime in the month of November. Therefore, be prepared for it at any given time of the school day. These people know about the upcoming drill: Parents, Staff, Policemen, and the
Countless individuals across the world are fighting for: freedom, religious convictions and more commonly for their children future. The devastating attack that had happened in Sandy Brook Elementary School in America that led to few deaths and injuries of youths. Which makes individuals question is educational institutes even a safe place for children. Additionally, there are more shootings in America compared to other nations as Gopink states “ United States has more gun violence than other countries because we have more guns and are willing to sell them to madmen who want to kill people.”(Gopinak, 2007, p. 458 ). This demonstrates that United States is just not inclined to take any action on gun control which is leading to deaths of children and adults. Some individuals believe handguns are not needed in American 's society. Then those who oppose gun control argue guns are a necessity to: hunting in the wild, self-defense, and it is part of the American culture. Furthermore, gun violence is having a vast impact on loved ones; losing a family member can have enormous affect socially, physical and mentally.
I am tired of living in total fear that my school, town, or any other public place will be the new breaking news of a shooting. No person right in the head will go around shooting up a school or anywhere else because they were angry at the people there. If we want to actually do something other than cry we need to know the first step in how these things happen. 1)person makes plan 2)person buys gun 3)peruses plan. We may no be able to stop a person thought process but we can sure as heck change how someone messed up enough to kill people to buy a gun. There is no reason for those type of people to be aloud to. How am I supposed to go to school and leave my house without thinking "wow, this could be it". Today I walked out of school to see police
This was a very informative article. I was unaware of all the deaths in result of gun violence. I didn’t realize that people who worked for the government or who was in congress were often targets. In order to fully get rid of gun violence in schools, each and every school should have metal detectors that can detect weapons and always have security guards on duty. By doing this, parents are more comfortable with sending their students off to school. Taking this step in every school around the world would definitely cost lots of money but it will honestly be worth it. After all the school shooting we’ve heard about, we’d definitely be saving plenty of lives just in case an incident does happen. I went to highschool in a rough neighborhood and
It is a sad time in American history when one can easily recount recent school shootings in their own area. This ease stems from a sharp increase in the number of firearms brought into elementary and middle schools across the country, with an intense focus on the issue beginning after the shooting of 20 children from Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut. Most school shooters are male, white, and often upper middle class. They are also more, often than not, under some type of mental stress that is causing them to create this type of violence in our communities. In fact, many school shooters are never suspected of doing any harm to their peers and teachers until it is much too late.
Gun violence in the United States is higher than ever, and criminals with guns will “…kill as many as 1000 people each day” (Alpers&Wilson). Taking this into perspective, it is only right to fight fire with fire or, in this case, use a gun to protect yourself and those around you. Gun control does not only decrease the ability for protection, it also decreases our rights as U.S citizens. The constitution clearly states that we are given the right to bear arms, meaning we may carry fire arms. Even if we have stricter laws for guns, it will not stop killers from shooting innocent people. These men and women causing damage to the lives of numerous individuals do not care if there is a law banning guns, because all they truly want to do is hurt others. The pain citizens endure every day from losing a family member, friend, or even just a colleague is repulsive. These permanent deaths continue to make people fearful and it causes damage in their lives; unless something is done. Most people agree that action needs to be taken to stop this inhumane cruelty, but the question is; what can be done? Americans need protection, rights, and power to break this inexcusable gun violence circling America. Gun restrictions for trustworthy and reliable gun owners have not been proven to weaken gun violence in the United States; therefore, gun control should be limited because it is only hurting America, not helping it.
Preventing School Shootings From 1980’s till now, there are has been many school shootings. Many researchers have made many hypotheses as to why these occur. The most tragic shooting took place in Sandy Hook Elementary. 2.
There are many different types of school violence. The one that gets the most public attention is school shootings. The term school shooting is basically defined as an act where a student, school staff member, or intruder from the outside commits an act on the school campus. One of the most well known school shootings took place at Columbine High School near Littleton, Colorado. On a Tuesday April 20,1999, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, students at Columbine High School, took the lives of thirteen other students before taking the lives of their own. When we think of events like this, we have many questions that go through our mind. Thoughts like why did this happen, could it have been prevented, and how did impact the individuals involved just to name a few. There are probably several more thoughts that go through the minds of a nation when we hear about traumatic evens such as a school shooting.
In the United States there have been 142 school shootings since 2013. In Australia there has never been a school shooting. “A school shooting is a form of mass shooting involving a gun attack on an educational institution, such as a school or university”(Wikipedia). According to the United States Secret Service, a school shooting is where the school is purposely planned and selected as the location for the attack. A school shooting may occur between any individual, student, instructor, administrator and staff employed institution (Sinnamon, 2016). There is no one profile to describe a shooter but almost all attackers are students at the school. School shootings occur when anyone enters a campus and begins firing weapons such as a rifle, shotgun
Harris and Klebold specified that they had targets by shouting in the library, “Get up! All athletes stand up,” and “Anybody with a white hat [part of the uniform of the athletes] or a sports emblem on it is dead. Today is your day to die.” When nobody stood up, the boys stated “fine, then I’ll just start shooting" as they began to fire their shotguns. When a fellow peer asked “Why are you doing this?” the boys responded “We’ve always wanted to do this. This is payback. We’ve dreamed of doing this for four years. This is for all the shit you put us through. This is what you deserve.” this message seems to been directed at the whole school. When Harris asked asking student Bree Pasquale if she wanted to die as she pleads for her life he replies
Shots have been fired worldwide, and most at officers, but there have been some cases where the people have saved the officers, so the question is: should gun control be tightened? The start of the gun control has begun and people are getting scared because of people who carry the guns and use them for protection. In many places there were officers that needed help and no other officers were able to help at that time and there was some random citizens with handguns that they used to protect them and they did that job just as good as an officer who has train for 6 years with that one gun to where they were hitting bull’s-eyes. There are people that can’t own guns because of the fact that the school shootings and all the shootings are from the people who are crazy or have illnesses and can’t help it. Therefore they shouldn’t carry but anyone can buy a gun and not have a background here in Indiana and it is mostly pistols (handguns) that they don’t check for and it turns out that most of the shootings are from the people with pistols (handguns) that is another reason that the pistol grip shotguns are illegal just for the fact that it is powerful and the fact that someone can hide it in their jackets and shoot where-whenever they wanted to. Most
Each time there is a mass shooting in the United States, especially when they involve schools and children, every media source blows up with articles containing information, photographs of victims, accounts from witnesses, and reactions by outsiders. As mass shootings continue to happen and have raised significant issues, I can’t help but wonder why there have been no further regulations and why these shootings continue to occur as they do. I will admit that I do not have much knowledge on the logistics and existing policies concerning guns, but as a US citizen I can’t help but be concerned upon hearing about shootings at concerts, schools, churches, etc. I have noticed that there are numerous instances of shootings in the United States, but few elsewhere.
Since the early 1700s school shootings have been a major issue in America. What exactly have we done to stop this from happening? Better yet, what can we all do to stop perpetrators from killing more innocent students? Something needs to be done! The one place were kids should feel safe has become one of the most dangerous places for them. The first school shooting I remember hearing about was at Columbine High School in Littleton Colorado in 1999, where 14 people were killed and 27 were wounded. About seven years later I met one of the survivors of the shooting, my English teacher, she was a freshman when it happened and hearing the story from her made me tear up. School shootings have happened at every level, from elementary school up to
Would you feel safer at school if a teacher could carry a Firearm or would you rather have a teacher that just teaches the basics of school, it sounds like a good idea but could have very negative drawbacks. So what do you choose an ordinary teacher or a trigger happy teacher.Teachers carrying firearms will reduce the school shooting in America some people say, but could it cause more trouble than what its worth like could it provide an easier access for children to the weapons.Allowing teachers to carry firearms provides a good layer of security over the students and can reduce the amount of school shootings, but it can cause stress on the students and it also provides an easier access to weapons if that child has none at home so this idea
