More than ever before, religion seems to be the topic of many debates and discussions worldwide. We argue where religion should be allowed and how much of an effect it can have on our governments. I believe that these arguments are the wrong ones. The discussion we should be having, is, do we really have religion if we base everything we know on what our parents believed and not what we discovered on our own. So many people claim to have religion, but what does it really mean anything if you only have religion because our parents told you to.

I was raised on religion. I have been to the Community Church in Fond du Lac Wisconsin since I was a baby. I got my first bible at 5 and prayed every night before bed.

As you move into the room the left wall has a giant whiteboard covering half of the wall and chairs resting near the far right corner. The whole room has tan walls and purple plaid wallpaper. Once my name is called I am asked to move to the stage. Exiting through a door just to the right of where I entered. The stage is black and dirty; it looks like a dancing troupe just finished a routine with all the scuffmarks and cuts in the floor. Looking forward you see 2000 seats, but only 300 of them full. Familiar faces lace the crowds, many of the have molded my mind and have brought me to the stage today. There are glass doors you must go through when entering the seating area, but today those same glass doors are my view. I see a camera straight across from me but behind all these people. To my left the audio boards reside where only those on the stage can see them. I begin to walk forward, towards my cousin. He stands in the clear pool. He is smiling, his balding head says old man, but his warm and gentle face is inviting and reminds me of a young boy. His tall physique is lessened while in the water. I made the right selection. The pool resides in the middle of the stage; it is normally covered by more stage, but today is open and inviting. I am asked to enter the pool; I leave on my red shirt and step into the water. This is because I could not really understand religion. We are taught from a young age what religion is and then asked to say we will live our lives by this. Whoa, whoa, whoa; we are expected because our parents raised us with religion, to be religious before we can ever do algebra.

If religion truly is the most important thing in the world, then we should be able to put time and effort into forming our idea of religion. I do not have religion. I am a skeptic. We should all analyze are beliefs and understand what they mean.

When you take on religion, you take on everything that comes with it. You need to understand the terms and conditions before you sign the contract. To any people are religious because you are told to be. I was one of them.

I have now said that I am not ready to be religious. I don’t understand it yet. But I am searching, I am trying to understand and accept religion. I think the argument that we should be having is, what does it mean to really be religious. If you take God to be your savior, will you really try your hardest to act upon everything that you religion asks you to do. To fully understand religion, we must go on a spiritual journey. A journey on our own, once we are ready. Not a journey influences by our parents, and not just based on what your priest says. Discovering for yourself, what religion means to
