I am writing to you today to bring your attention to the issues we are having with the potholes in Ohio. When potholes start to form they start off small, but then people drive roads everyday they end up getting bigger and bigger. When the potholes get massive enough this causes severe damage to cars and this makes everyone furious because they must pay more money out of their pocket. Potholes cause a bunch of tires to burst when hit a certain way as well. Most people like to swerve to miss the potholes and this could cause people to lose control of their cars which causes wrecks. As I have seen in Amelia and Beechmont, Ohio the potholes have been getting bigger and bigger since the winter. I drive these roads everyday and I try to miss them as best as I can, but sometimes you just cannot. Nobody wants to hit the potholes and damage their cars, but some of the potholes are just too big now and you cannot do anything about it. A few drivers have got flat tires right in …show more content…
Sealing cracks is the most expensive because it is with a liquid instead of using a type of rock to stamp down. To seal cracks, it is around $327 per square mile for state workers and more than twice that amount for the contactors. A few of these may seem like a lot, but in the long run think about your car and everyone else’s car that will not be damaged by the severe potholes. Paving the roads would be a better solution than just covering it up. Paving a two-way lane road cost about 120,000 and a four-lane road cost about 502,000. Each square mile is around three to four dollars. This may seem like a lot of money now, but in the long run it would help tremendously with all the potholes that just keep getting filled. Doing construction on the road takes up time and money but will help keep cars from getting damaged from all the potholes on our roads
Parking on Campus is a Pain New students entering Concordia College are not permitted to have a car on campus. With each new freshman class entering every year, parking represents an issue. Concordia is as of now constrained in its parking on campus and since first year students are not permitted to have cars, the students are confronted with the problem of having no place to park or parking very a long way from their goal. There are parking issues everywhere throughout the campus, making backups in residence hall and other lots, bringing about students parking illegally to avoid from walking far distances, which can be very aggravating in the bitter cold. Parking nearer appears like the reasonable thing to do, however it is a hazard, which
Sidewalks are different shapes and sizes, people tend to make their own decisions to which way they would want to go. Going through the motions on a sidewalk is similar as going through the motions of life. There are many turns that could get you to your final destination and turns that can also get you into places you would not feel so comfortable being. Staying on the right path and trying to get to where you need to go isn’t so hard but when you have other sidewalks with nice grass and big beautiful street lights that can be a very big distraction to the eye and that could cause problems in your life. Nice sidewalks sometimes don't always tend to continue a nice path so they can be very believing at first but when you make it to the end
There are approximately 5,400 deaths per year that are linked to distracted driving, and thousands more were injured. (U.S. Department of Labor). Those fatalities are our neighbors, close friends, and even family. How can we prevent this from being so prominent? How can we make the roads a safe place to be again? These questions have many different answers, but many prove to be un-effective. I believe that the best and only way to resolve this issue is to implement tougher laws on cell-phone use in vehicles, and educate our youth to the best of our abilities on the dangers of distracted driving.
Life on the Road It’s fair to say that life on the road is something most people do not desire, as a way to live out their days; but a young man named Chris McCandless believed it was necessary to avoid the venomous grips of society. McCandless goes as far as to venture out to the rest of the United States and even crossing borders to achieve his true destination, Alaska. He shows us living such a life can hold many unique and wonderful experiences.
Based on the facts that the traffic situation is getting worse day after day and the population is growing fast, a short-term solution is the most appropriate "escape" for the problem. A solution would consist on implementing a rule by the government, restricting the numbers of cars on circulation. The restriction would by applied in car tags, even and odd numbers. The regulation should specify which days odd car tags are allowed to circulate and which days can even car tags are. The implementation of this solution would solve in a short term the large number of cars traveling on Ga. 400. It would not only make people having to find a ride in those "not allowed days" to drive but it would also reduce pollution rates, and make people transport faster to their homes or works. Like I mentioned before, dependence on somebody else's those days that drivers are not allowed to drive would be the only bad side of the solution. People would need to realize that the advantages are greater than the disadvantages.
In the 21st century, our nation is facing a major issue, causing teenagers to lose their lives at the hand of the wheel due to inexperienced driving. “Teen drivers between the ages of 16 and 19 are four times more likely than older drivers to be involved in an automobile crash,” and statistics show. Automobile accidents are the number one cause of teen deaths. Driving regulations are in high need to be changed in order for teenagers to gain more experience with driving before taking the driving test, which could help save countless adolescence’s lives.
Most if not all teens look forward to several events in their life. One of those events are getting a driver's license. This small piece of plastic is their ticket to freedom. This ticket is more than just freedom to be able to drive their friends around but also freedom from the ritual of their parents having to drive them everywhere and embarrass them in public. Also this is a freedom to the parents as well they may save more on gas from not having to drive their children around. However, some teens are not as safe as they possibly could be if they were to take a few steps to promote good driving habits. This is evident in the article “Teen Driving”, as the author gives the reader teen driving statistics, as well as explanations of programs and steps that can improve teen driving.
In determining how to make the sidewalks a better place for everyone, one must consider what it is that renders the sidewalks “better.” What does “better” encompass? Would eliminating homelessness, the “broken windows,” cause people to feel safer on the streets? Alternatively, would eliminating the stigma surrounding the homeless allow people to see the sidewalk workers as beneficial contributors to the sidewalk? With these ideas in mind and with knowledge of New York sidewalks from Mitchell Duneier’s novel, Sidewalk, I can contemplate the actions I would take to make the sidewalks a better place for everyone, if I had necessary, and assumedly unlimited, power to do so.
There is a high percentage of people that spend a majority of their day sitting behind the wheel of a vehicle. Whether it is commuting to work, taking the kids to school, running errands, or simply going out to eat one may feel that their car has become a second home. With so much time spent behind the wheel, drivers become comfortable and incorporate distracting activities while trying to remain focused on the road. Our inability to put our cell phones away while driving is inexcusable. Drivers who choose to use mobile devices are endangering people’s lives and property with associated risks that are not acceptable. No one distracted driver is better than the next. Do to rising accidents
Drunk driving, sleeping at the wheel, and loss of control of a vehicle could be a thing of the past when it comes to new innovations being made towards self-driving cars. When one thinks of a “self-driving” car, it means not having to pay attention to the actual driving and going about putting make-up on or playing on your phone while the car takes you where you want to go, sounds completely sci-fi, but it is likely to happen in the near future. With advances in technology, the car is able to use satellites, cameras, and sensors to take the driver where he or she needs to go. Many companies are researching, manufacturing, and testing different
Whether it is a text massage from love one or a bite of a sandwich, it is not so important than a human life. Distracted driving is an epidemic, so more tough laws should be implemented. The law for distracted driving should be tough just like a driving under influence. Distracting driving is a killer on the road, it should be banned because, it is the number one killer of the U.S. teenager in the road, not only the teenager in the road, but also cause a collision which is often fatal, and some incident were driver or one who involve on an accident became disable. Distraction is an involvement of driver where his or hers eye or mind are engage and performing on other things rather than driving, such as while talking on
Driving. While I haven’t had the greatest experiences with driving related problems; I’ve run into some pretty funny ones. When I was about four years old my family was over at my grandpa’s putting in a well for him. I of course was sitting in the unattended van on the top of the hill in the back seat. While many people would think that it was completely safe and there’s nothing to worry about they are wrong. You see I was a clever little toddler and could at that time unbuckle herself and climb over the center console right into the front seat. Also being the genius child that I was I managed to switch the car from park to neutral and begin to roll down the hill. Now I don 't remember my mom and the other adults running towards the van to
Florida is not doing nearly enough to stop texting and driving. There are few laws regarding distracted driving and few programs done specifically by the state to stop texting and driving. With 3,179 deaths caused by distracted driving isn’t it about time Florida did its part to reduce the numbers.
Public transportation is an essential part of a city. A good public transit can encourage a city’s economic activities and can provide its citizen a convenient life. Does our Phoenix public transit work well? Does it provide sufficient service to the citizen? From my experience, the answer is no. This November I tried to attend the popular State Fair in Phoenix. However, I found that there were not any buses or metros could take me to the fair directly. It means I need 2 hours or more spend on the public transits. As the sixth most populous city nationwide (“Phoenix Quick Fact” 1), compared with Los Angeles and other big cities in America, Phoenix’s public transportation is indeed subpar. Due to Los Angeles has 154 bus lines and 30 metros (“Schedule”), New York has 316 bus lines and 28 subways(“Maps & Timetables”), while Phoenix only has 98 bus lines, and the number of metro line is only one! (“Route Schedules & Maps”) The problem is
Honor killings have become very common in Pakistan especially in Sindh and in tribal areas of Pakistan. In Pakistan hundreds of women are killed every year in the name of honor. Such a cruel custom has existed in our country from so many years. Honor killings are common in all over the country, though in some areas the incidents of honor killings have taken a shockingly high amount of incidents in recent years. In Azad Kashmir a mother helped her husband in killing their 15 year old daughter because they saw her talking to a young man. They killed her by dousing her acid. Her elder sister was not in favor of this custom and she was very anxious about that crime which her parents had committed. She demanded justice and police investigation for her sister but all went in vain because it was done in the name of so called ‘honour’. Our state also goes after the satisfaction of honor in foreign policy. Our society has become so cruel under the involuntarily accepted conduct guideline of the Taliban. The people who are killed in the name of honor are mostly women.
