Nobody wants the government to have control over their bodies. Planned Parenthood is an organization that provides affordable health care and sex education for women, men, and young people. They supply many people with a variety of things through the funding of the government, but those who are pro-life want to bring an end to Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood is essential to have.
Planned Parenthood contributes greatly to those who are unable to pay for quality health insurance. It helps people avoid unwanted pregnancies so that abortions are limited. “Planned Parenthood health centers focus on prevention: 80 percent of our patients receive services to prevent unintended pregnancy. Planned Parenthood services help prevent approximately

President Donald Trump like many other Republicans, is pro-life and believes that Planned Parenthood should no longer have economic support from the government. Trump has recently reinstated a policy that does not allow the U.S to give foreign country health providers money if they give abortion as an option. The article asserts, “President Trump’s decision to reinstate the global gag rule will endanger already vulnerable women by further curtailing their access to accurate information and safe reproductive health care services”. (Trump Revives Ban on Foreign Aid to Groups That Give Abortion Counseling). This reveals that by taking away resources like Planned Parenthood, Donald Trump and the government are putting many people who aren’t privileged at a higher risk for reproductive and health issues. The countries that receive funding from the U.S for health services have increased poverty which makes it harder to find appropriate support. The article comments, “The World Health Organization says 225 million women in developing nations would like to delay childbearing but are not using contraception for a variety of reasons, including a lack of access” (Trump Revives Ban on Foreign Aid to Groups That Give Abortion Counseling). This proves that people wished they could avoid pregnancies but many times they don’t have the ability to find places that offer
Planned Parenthood is a non-profit organization that is government funded and offers free health care, sex education, and family planning to millions of women all over the country. (“Who We Are”) The organization was founded by Margaret Sanger in the 1960’s. Her mission was to provide free health care to women all across the nation despite their race, ethnic background, income, etc. She also vowed to educate and care for women’s sexual health while maintaining their privacy. As of late, Planned Parenthood has been a target of controversy, with a possibility of being defunded. Why or why not should the government continue to fund this organization?
“It is my conviction that taxpayer funds should not be used to pay for abortions or advocate or actively promote abortion either here or abroad,” Bush stated in his memorandum to reinstate the Mexico City Policy. However, the policy does not state that funds will be withheld if the US taxpayer’s money is used; it states that monies will be withheld if abortion services are offered at all, even if it is not US money. Douglas Johnson the legislative director for the National Right to Life Committee states, the “government will no longer..try to legalize abortion in countries in Latin America, Africa, and Muslim countries in which people are strongly opposed to abortion and believe in the protection of unborn children.” What Johnson fails to recognize is that in countries where abortion is legal women’s rights are being compromised. U.S. Representative Christopher H. Smith expresses his feelings in his article “A Congressional View: The Unborn Must be Protected” (Global Issues Electronic Journal) by stating, “Abortion is child abuse.” Smith also comments that when the policy was previously in effect it had no affect on the family planning money received by NGO’s. It may not have affected the money received but it did affect women who were denied the option of abortion services.
We all know that Planned Parenthood is a charitable association that researches into and gives guidance on contraception, family arranging, and regenerative issues. However, society and especially the American people need to realize what Planned Parenthood does to the unborn children. Some think funding Planned Parenthood is a good idea without looking at the affects that is will cause and then there are others that see likewise and want to defund Planned Parenthood. When arguing the point on defunding Planned Parenthood the liberals and conservatives has two different perspective and argumentative points which both goes a long way trying to get society to understand both their views. However, both sides feel that their perspective of defunding
...ions over her own body; whether it is parenthood, adoption, contraception, or yes, abortion. After all, it is entirely plausible for people to be personally pro-life but politically pro-choice – this suggests that they respect each individuals’ rights over his or her own body and recognize that each woman should be allowed to have options. Regardless of whether or not she chooses to have the child, it is the fact that she has a choice that is crucial, and it is imperative that each woman have the freedom of individual autonomy. In order for this to occur, abortion must continue to be legal. Ultimately, being pro-choice is not necessarily advocating the use of abortion – it is about ensuring that abortion is legal so that women may have the option to exercise their right to individual autonomy and make the decisions that best reflects their stance in life.
Planned Parenthood services are about 80 percent of their clients receive health services to prevent unintended pregnancy. Along with that, according to Planned Parenthood official website, 42% of their services prevent and deal with STDs/ STIs and 34% in contraception education and resources. Another 20% of the services are to provide pap tests to screen for cervical cancer and breast exams to detect breast cancer, and education to young people and adults through programs and outreach. Although Planned Parenthood health services do include the option for abortion only 3% of their overall amount of services are abortion
There are many different reasons why political and religious groups want to defund Planned Parenthood. One major reason for so much opposition is because Planned Parenthood is America’s largest abortion provider. “One out of every four
Planned Parenthood federation of America (PPFA), is widely known as Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood is a non-profit organization that provides reproductive healthcare and family planning services. Planned Parenthood is the nation 's leading sexual and reproductive health care provider and advocate (Planned). Planned Parenthood receives federal funding from the government to help practice the services they provide, but some groups believe that funding this organization is morally wrong. Specifically, in the recent Republican Presidential debates, defunding Planned Parenthood and Abortion rights have been the central topic. However if the government were to move forward with the defunding
Planned Parenthood provides much important health care to women in the United States. Therefore the Government (State and Federal) should continue to fund the organization. PPFA (Planned Parenthood Federation of America) provides a high variety of service at affordable pricing to women, men, and teenagers. Planned Parenthood has been categorized by some government representatives as an organization that misspend funds as well as some religious systems that oppose abortion. PPFA have also supply communities with guidance, health services, abortion services as well as referrals for adoption.
In separate studies, Fuentes (2016) and Gerdts (2016) found that when clinics closed due to their inability to prescribe to the requirements of HB2, they left the individuals who would have used those abortion clinics without access to abortion providers. This in turn meant if women decided that they would pursue an abortion in a different city or out of state they had increased costs, due to travel and overnight hotel stays (Fuentes 2016; Gerdts 2016). In a review conducted by Rachel Gold and Kinsey Hasstedt, they also found that the negative attitudes and behaviors directed at those who provide abortions were spreading beyond that onto those seeking contraceptives such as the birth control pill (Gold and Hasstedt 2016). Gold and Hasstedt state that the Texas Health and Human Services Commission found that “.after Texas booted Planned Parenthood centers from its network of safety-net family planning providers, Medicaid claims declined for some methods of contraception, including long-acting reversible contraceptives and injectables” (as cited in Gold and Hasstedt 2016). Thus, the animosity toward Planned Parenthood as an abortion provider affects an individual’s ability to access birth control overall, not just abortions.
Today, abortion has become one of the greatest controversies throughout the world. The debate on whether or not abortion should become a legal option continues to dismember not only Americans, but citizens of other countries. There are people who believe abortion is a women’s civil right, and those who consider it as an immoral act. There are those who believe personhood begins at birth, and those who believe personhood begins from the moment of conception. Many contradictory statements lead to the separation of two groups: pro-choice and pro-life. While a pro-choice supports a women’s “right to privacy”, pro-life supporters are against such an action considering it murder, but why force a female to go through such a dramatic change because of a pregnancy?
Abortion has been one of the biggest controversies of all time. According to the Oxford dictionary, the term abortion can be defined as, the deliberate termination of human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy. There are two different types of abortion; a spontaneous abortion, which is also known as a miscarriage, and an induced abortion, where the embryo or fetus is purposely removed from the women’s body. The topic of induced abortion has been widely debated for hundreds of years. The issue of abortion was argued way back in the time of the ancient Hebrews. Today many people consider abortion to be murder, but shouldn’t the soon-to-be mother 's right to make such a personal and heartbreaking choice be
Abortion has been a controversial topic in the U.S ever since it became legal in 1973 after the Roe v. Wade case. Abortion is defined as the, “the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy.” Pro-life supporters believe that abortion is unethical and argue that it is the mother’s responsibility to own up to her actions. They also argue that there is always the option of adoption, and that abortion could be very dangerous. I am pro-life and believe that the government doesn’t have the right to decide what a woman can or can’t do with her body.
Planned Parenthood is the leading provider of affordable healthcare for all kinds of people across the world, however, there has been a fair share of many false accusations and controversial topics regarding the organization. Contrary to popular belief, Planned Parenthood does not receive federal funding of any kind. Instead, services are paid for through Medicaid or any insurance that the patient might have. Thus no money comes from the government but from the insurances companies. Most insurances companies “cover a set of preventive services — like shots and screening tests — at no cost to you.” (Preventive Health Services). 60% of Planned Parenthood patients depended on federal programs, like Medicaid, to help provide the preventive and necessary health care (istandwithpp.org). So, although Medicaid is a federal program, Planned Parenthood does not directly receive funding from the government. When you hear politicians talk about “defunding” Planned Parenthood, they're talking about blocking millions of people from getting health assistance. Planned Parenthood also receives a large sum of its finance from donors and supporters. In fact, the organization has a following of 10 million people, consisting of activists and contributors alike. Corporations and companies join in on the funding of Planned Parenthood. Corporations like Adobe, Starbucks,
...t or the mother’s life was physically in danger. Now, some states within the U.S. are trying to do everything in their power to close women’s facilities throughout the country, such as Planned Parenthood and any other women’s choice facilities. If the politicians close centers that provide reproductive health services, it will end establishments that administer birth control, which can lead to a higher risk of unplanned pregnancy amongst women.
Women should have the right to decide whether or not they would like to have an abortion. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines abortion as; “the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus.” The idea of a woman’s right to have an abortion being taken away is merely incomprehensible.
